In order for there to be a story there would have to be a plot. The plot is responsible for every event in the story, therefore it is necessary. Saber dies in the VN, you start over because that story has now ended. Yes she got lucky with Gae Bolg, stats do emphasize that she has a high luck rating. That is why she's able to survive, call it plot if you want, but it is fully explained within the story. All bad ends are canon in universe, therefore all bad ends count. It's not that all VN's have them, since most VN's don't have a multiuniverse that links many series together such as the one by typemoon does. Edit: HF doesn't change the argument though, Saber never beats berserker in any route. The fight first fights against berserker and lancer happen in all 3 routes. |

Those aren't flaws though, there is a system in the story with the luck factor being a part of it. Same as lancer having crap luck also plays a part in the story. You can't call a well thought out system a flaw. What other way could you explain Saber surviving an unblockable/undodgeable blow? Anything other than the predetermined stats would not have worked, without it looking like what you would call "plot armor." It's like i've argued with others about what a deus ex machina is. I've stated it can't be a deus ex machina if it's been showed throughout the series even if its only barely explained, since a deus ex machina would have to be completely out of nowhere. Same here, in order for it to be plot armor it would have to be something that isn't already predetermined. Stat ratings and Skills were already predetermined, therefore they are not considered plot armor. I know you don't think FSN is bad, i'm just showing a counter argument to what you view as flaws. This is a discussion after all. |

Saber's a coinflip, just judging by masters and assuming Shirou is worse than Kiritsugu. Rider might be controversial, but her mystic eyes are perfect against massive amounts of fodder and it decreases the opponent's stats by 1 while Bellerophon increases all of her stats by 1 while being a great AoE attack, she completely counters Zero Rider's reality marble and has an all-stat advantage of 2. |
