Do you believe strength should correlate to physical appearance in anime?

It's anime. What do you expect? Its not uncommon for characters (lolis included) to perform ridiculous feats of strength which are impossible in real life.

However, just because someone is skinny (anime or real-life), doesn't necessarily mean he's weak.

I mean, look at this asian guy on the right, sissy nerd dancing the cha cha.

And here's he when he's not dancing the cha-cha

True, but Bruce Lee wasn't bulky. His muscle mass wasn't as large as those bodybuilder type guys you see in real life or anime. He also wasn't tall.

Yet he can still kick anyone's ass without a sweat and perform amazing feats of speed and strength.

Of course. He spent a lot of his life training his body to peak condition and was one of the greatest marital artists who ever lived.

Though I think this thread is more about those anime characters who look like they couldn't even hurt a fly or not have the physicality of athletes/martial artists being randomly strong just for the sake of it thanks to anime logic.

I know what you mean.

TV Tropes even has a trope which anime pretty much embraces for a lot of their smaller yet inhumanly strong characters.

I'd rather not have every strong male character look like they came out of Dragon Ball Z, to be honest.

No they don't need to be. Since anime isn't always close combat, they don't need macho characters. Well keep watching JoJo, and you'll eventually see how characters will get smaller but stronger.

Strength in terms of fighting doesn't correlate to muscular strength nearly as intensely as most would suspect. A petite girl could wipe the floor with a guy twice her size if she knows how to fight and her doesn't.

I can't think of many situations where a skinny character is used when a muscular character is required.

I just don't care too much really. If you wanna have a skinny guy wield a big-ass sword, go right ahead; I care more about the actual fight rather than how jacked someone is.

Whatever, Meliodas is fine for me btw. Bleach characters are also nice. I think I don't care too much about physics when watching, it's a cartoon anyway.

Bruce Lee could beat anybody who wasn't a fighter. However, I think he would probably lose to any heavy weight UCF fighter. I don't know about Mohammad Ali, he was stronger than Bruce Lee (much bigger: if you are 50% heavier you are almost certainly stronger) but since he was a boxer he didn't use his legs which are the strongest part of the human body: his arms were stronger than Bruce's but Bruce legs were stronger than his arms. Though since he was heavier he could take Bruce's attacks better than Bruce could take his attacks.

A contemporary UFC fighter like Jose Aldo could easily beat either Mohamed Ali or Bruce:

(he is 145 pounds by the way, with a shirt on he looks just like a thin anime guy)

animation shouldn't overlay with reality logic, else you want to look every strong character like Balrog for Street Fighter which is very unlikely and lack diversity.

But for the sakes of this question, I would disagree. The show would look like Cromartie High School, or everyone would be complete weaklings xD
A great protagonist once said, "It's only overpowered if you can't return the favor!"
