Hey guys! I was thinking about adding some very lesser-known but quality anime on my PTW, and I would love to hear some recommendations from you guys. Any genre is fine (yaoi and yuri included), with the sole exception of hentai. Any decade is fine (would love 70s-90s anime) as well. There are no specific criteria to what anime you guys can recommend, so feel free to make as long of a list as you want. I will be replying to each comment.

Some preferences:

1. Anime rated under 8.10 on MAL

2. Anime ranked under 500 in popularity (on MAL)

3. Anime released prior to 2009 (a bulk of my list is made up of shows post-2008, sorry)

Thanks guys.

These aren't pre 2008, but they're hidden gems.

Hamatora
C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control

However your list is private, so not my fault if you've seen them.

Both of them seem very trippy and psychological. Thank you!

My sister watched Hamatora, and she seemed to enjoy it a lot. And I've definitely heard of C. Thanks a lot!

That's fine. I'm okay with people listing shows I've seen. I just prefer keeping my list private.

Interesting setting, thanks! I accidentally called it a Type Moon adaptation, earlier.

A preference thing. Just recommend anime based on what you like. Don't worry about my list.

Yuasa anime are always interesting. I've watched Tatami Galaxy already, and loved it. Zankyou no Terror has been talked about a lot recently, so I definitely want to check it out. The fact that it's from Watanabe helps too. Thank you! :)

Thanks so much for all these. I definitely want to check out Outlaw Star and Golden Boy in the future. I heard about Big O, and it looks great. Looks similar to Batman The Animated Series. I watched Gungrave, and thought it was incredible! Never thought about trying G Gundam before. I watched Gundam 00 which I really loved, so I will check it out. Thanks for all these anime, and thanks for recommending me older ones.

Utakoi's opening is great: very catchy. Thanks for all these sports anime: I haven't watched Major yet, but I definitely intended to get to it at some point. The other sports anime seem really interesting too; I haven't watched many baseball anime outside of Touch and Cross Game. Shirokuma Cafe seems really fun ^_^. And Hal seems beautiful. Thanks! That's a long list!

Ah, so you've seen Cross Game already ;) Major is the next best thing close to it. When you watch it, you'll see what I mean. Although, the feeling of it is very different.

Yes, UtaKoi's OP is lovely :D

And I am definitely looking forward to it! I did hear that Cross Game was pretty different due to its more romance-oriented nature. I do have experience watching other sports anime, so it's perfectly fine.

And yes it is. :)

Wowza *o*. A lot of really interesting romcoms here. Lovely Complex reminds me of some other really good ones. You have Nana on your PTW? You should definitely watch that. It's really great! Ookami-san's poster reminds me of the Melancholy video, thanks! Inu x Boku involves mansions and fox spirits? Sign me up please! Senyuu, Monogatari, and Soredemo look like interesting fantasies. Kamisama sounds like an anime with a lot of interesting hijinks ^_^ Skip Beat is an anime I definitely wanted to watch, just haven't gotten to it yet. Watamote's opening is so O-O. Hooked. I'm actually planning to watch Yahari Ore soon. Thanks for this long list of shows!

Well glad I potentially got another soul to watch Hamatora haha.

It had a really cool cast and OST.

There is also another one I remembered: Kekkaishi.

I know, I just put them there because I liked them too.

I do plan on getting to Nana, but I think I'd have to be in the right mood for that.

And you're welcome.

I don't know if you would consider it a gem, but a great anime that I believe is underrated is Aoi Bungaku.

http://myanimelist.net/anime/7193/Aoi_Bungaku_Series

It is one of those of if you don't like the first story, you might like the next and so on.
I loved all the stories in it though but thats just me hehe.

If you decide to watch it, tell me what you think or what was your favorite story.

I'm an avid manga reader, so I'll definitely check out both! And the cover looks wicked *O*

I don't really see these kind of anthology anime often, so it's always cool to find one. It's of the mystery genre, too! Thanks!

I definitely plan to watch, but I go through anime quite slowly so I can't guarantee I'll get back to you. Sorry :(

An experimental anime! Watched Kaiji, and loved it! Definitely planning to get to Moyashimon at some point. I'll probably watch it with Silver Spoon too, given the agricultural setting. My sister watched Aishiteruze Baby, and she really wants me to watch it. I definitely plan to get to it. OMG at the hamster. It's like the Shirokuma Cafe anime mayukachan recommended! That Hanada Shounen-shi sounds ridiculously good. Love the premise. I think I need some Sexy Commando in my life. I originally decided against watching Initial D due to recommendations against it, but now I think I think I'll watch it myself. Thanks for the list. All the anime you recommended are quite varied too!

I'm sorry is just that this anime, Especially the No Longer Human and Run, Melos! story really touched me and I'm curious as to what other people think about it aside from all the reviews it already has haha.

Thanks guys for the new posts! Unfortunately, I'm quite busy today, so I may not be able to reply to everyone else's comments in depth, but I can share a few thoughts:

Elmm-Awesome choices. I've been watching Kyosougiga, and it's so heartwarming.

Maor-Interesting. It seems like a "so bad, it's good" type of show judging by the ratings. I'll definitely try this out!

Prosetya-Thanks! I've been meaning to get to Non Non Biyori for awhile. Nice picks.

Crotaku-This show sounds epic. Very cool.

FallnKnightFakir-Is your name of Princess Tutu and your avi of Hikaru no Go? Love both those anime! This is a pretty extensive list. Someone recommended Kuuchuu Buranko just before you. Yay at Gunbuster being here. Watched it, and thought it was amazing. I've been definitely wanting to get into Towards the Terra and Simoun for awhile.

Seiji-Ooh. Here are some classics. I've pondered watching each of those at one point. Oh! Edo Rocket is a pretty under known one. Thanks! Nice to see Bake Neko, Level E, and House of Five Leaves here too.

Aimeiliuz-Sounds experimental. Thanks!

Sakana-I watched Shigofumi awhile back. Didn't expect to like it, but
. I'll definitely check out the rest. Love the Humanity Has Declined avi. Haven't watched it yet, but I definitely plan to.

Thanks, everyone!

season 2 - 2007
season 3 - 2008
season 4 - 2012

got around 100# on popularity tho, never realised it, since nobody talks about it

it was my very first anime and it's the one that got me started on watching anime, i think that's why i like it so much
