Hello MAL, I'm looking for additional harem animes to watch.

Things I'm looking for:

-Action or some sort of overarching conflict. I tend to stay away from slice of life types of animes.

-MC not to be useless.

-Not chibi style characters

-It does not have to be ecchi, if it has it, fine, if it doesn't, that's fine too.

To provide some reference points:

High School DxD - I absolutely love this series, the premise I think is very cool and it has action and a semi serious plot but plenty of comedy to go with it.

Rosario to Vampire - I thought this series was OK. It was a little hard to put my finger on why I didn't like it that much, but I think part of it was villain of the week and part of it was the MC being rather useless.

Hagure Yuusha no Estetica - OP MC, I'm fine with that and I enjoyed the series, comedy thrown in.

Shuffle! - This series is probably an outlier in terms of what I like since it doesn't have an overarching plot nor a particularly interesting/useful MC. I thought I'd include it since I still enjoyed it despite it missing some of my criteria.

To LOVE-Ru - I don't like it that much. It kind of felt like I was watching a children's show, except with fan service. Nothing is really ever serious in this anime. I need an at least slightly serious tone for the anime. DxD is filled with comedic moments, but it usually has a serious tone. The anime is too episodic as well. Also, kind of useless MC.

Sora no Otoshimono - Similar problem to To LOVE-Ru, episodic and a lack of serious tone. I liked it more than To LOVE-Ru, however. Again, a useless MC.

I'm currently watching Freezing and thoroughly enjoying it. Semi-serious, has an overarching conflict, and not too episodic. Something to note is that while I like the anime to have a conflict, it does not have to be relevant to every episode.

I don't mind if people reply with animes that are in my to watch list, as that'll just bump them up priority wise, but if you do, please let me know why, thanks.

I don't know if it counts but..
:the world god only knows 1,2,3 is a very "specific" harem and getss into a pretty decent plot about demons and shizz
:zero no tsukaima (all seasons) is amazing and just what you described

Sorry if you've seen these, I just can't think of any right now :3
After all, It's my own house yes? It won't be killing me anytime soon.

I've seen both of those and enjoyed both of them.

I don't particularly like the mini tsundere pink haired female lead. I put up with it in Zero no Tsukaima, but it's not something I like that much.

The other one seems to have prequels?

I'm currently watching Blade Dance of the Elementalers this season. It has some good action, and it is entertaining. It isn't that serious but can have some darkish moments. I feel like the plot is going to get a bit darker than what we've seen so far. it might have that "Chibi character" element, so not sure if you'd like it.

One of my first harem animes was Maburaho has a supernatural element that Rosario had so that could be a possibility. The character has a usefulness a little bit later on in the show!

I have a friend that loves Campione, it has action and a serious element to it (I haven't completed the series yet but he says it's still pretty good).

Mmm.. I may like it, is it a harem or just comedy?

I'll probably wait until blade dance is finished airing to watch it, but it definitely caught my eye.

I'll add Maburaho to my list.

As it turns out Campione I'll probably watch soon.

Haiyore! Nyaruko-san: It starts off with only 1 girl and 1 boy... liking the MC. It kind ends off as a harem tough. It is heavy on the comedy part

+1 Campione

Ok, I'll put it on my list. I don't mind comedic harems so I'm finding it hard to really describe why I didn't like To LOVE-Ru. I guess for me it went beyond comedy to the point of being silly.

Freezing gets "better" towards the end, OP. At least within the 'plotless harem series' tier.
If you end up enjoying it, you could try Infinite Stratos. The harem is really strong with that one.

Also, just jump straight to To LOVE-Ru Darkness. it will fulfill your wishes in a way the first couple of seasons didn't.

He watched IS already.

Agree that Freezing gets... better? Depends i guess. In some way yes, on the other hand it does not. Atleast in my Opinion?

Where exactly is Shakugan No Shana a harem? It has a love triangle, but that's it. Also, to be honest i see 0 resemblance between Shakugan and Zero no Tsukaime.

I just read again what you exactly are looking for, and seriously:

Watch Campione!

MC no useless (Well, he kills gods afterall)
Big Harem with Nasty Kisses
What else is there to say? Do i really have to add more?

Gif in Spoiler Tag

There are lots of kisses like this, so yeah.

Edit: Now that i talked about Campione i feel like rewatching it......

Freezing ultimately delivers what viewers were expecting, so in terms of pleasure(?) and enjoyment it does gets "better".
You knew you were watching a shitty plot-less, QUALITY fanservice animu from the start. No reason to keep high standards.

I am not the one who said it's a harem, m8. I just ironically quoted that guy on top who implied it is, since he said it's "similar" in a thread asking for Harem.
There's A LOT of similarities between ZnT and SnS, tho. And some heavy cameo references in ZnT to SnS.
I could list it here, but then we'd derail the thread...
I'm fine with people saying anything about Shana nowadays, actually I'm glad it still gets mentioned, but, yo, there's a limit to it.

Agree on Freezing
but....

I know that it was not you who said it was a harem. I just wanted to re-confirm what you said that it is NOT a harem.

To be honest, when i watched SnS i didn't feel anything similar to ZnT. Maybe it's just me, but the only similarity i could think of is probably the Main Girl beeing a tsundere.

I watched ZnT first, and then SnS, so maybe if it was Vice-Versa i'd see it in a differnt way. Anyways, as you said yourself, we are derailing so lets keep it to the OP's request.

OP: Again, i really want you to watch Campione since from your description i think you'll love it.

Well, yes, you gonna miss a bit of "story" if you care about To LOVE-Ru's "story".
If that's the case, I recommend that you read the manga. It's way better in many ways (artwork, story, characters, borderline stuff, etc)
Then go for Darkness when you just want to see those things animated in a way the 1st and 2nd seasons didn't do.

To Love-Ru Darkness is really a lot better compared to the two prequels.

Also, with your requirements I highly recommend Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka? and Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance.

You miss a lot of ecchi and near-sex scenes. Awkward moments FTW!!!

Don't open this spoiler tag unless you want to spoil the ENTIRE series for yourself:

Also for Haiyore! Nyaruko-san - there is also too much stupid comedy (I like stupid comedy :3)

Examples:

Yeah. Comedy like that

LOL @ first spoiler, as if I didn't expect that already.

I don't think it's really stupid comedy that turns me off from an anime, because I liked Baka To Test. But I'm not sure how I would exactly describe the difference between that and To LOVE-Ru

LOL. I've seen it and enjoyed it. I find it kind of interesting MAL doesn't tag it as harem.

Also, I watched the first 2 episodes of Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? and I don't see the harem. There's one girl maybe into him and two girls that are tsundere at best but don't really seem to like the MC. The comedy was so so.

Kore wa Zombie desu ka? has no harem (though it is tagged as one)

MC ends up living with 3 girls.

One can't speak or show emotion
One is convinced that he is a pervert and into old men
One calls him a maggot and kills him at least once every episode.

But in season 2:

Mmm.. I might watch it later on then, but right now the humor has its moments but overall it didn't stand out to me. If it's not going to go the harem route then it kind of loses the appeal for me.

Also some of that stuff in the spoiler makes me cringe as did the first episode during the transformation, though I was laughing at that too.

About to finish Campione! now, and I like it but not as much as I thought I would. The MC always seems to fall back on his golden sword which requires the aid of his female companions which isn't really a bad thing but rather predictable now. Also the action seems a bit lackluster when half of it is spent talking about the mythological villain of the week. But still, an enjoyable watch.

Also coming up to the end of Nyan Koi! which has been fairly consistently above average to me.

Any thoughts on my next one?

I would recommend Maken KI the MC is at first very nerdy and all but it gets better

I would also recommend Is this a Zombie the MC is a zombie and he does a lot of fighting and its a harem + there is romance but not alot
