We need a explanation about what happened to his eye, it is understandable since obviously Takanome wouldn't be a soft sensei. First i really thought he was doing that (his eyey closed) in purpose but then i just realised i was thinking too much, he just lost that eye during his harsh training most likely. The other day a friend asked me what i thought that his left eye was hiding, and i was like ''oh, so i was not the only one thinking about that? then maybe..''

Do you think that there might be some secret behind that left eye? Some power acquired (from what we know from One Piece right now that wouldn't make much sense, unless if Oda creates 'new powers') or maybe just the fact of using only 1 eye makes it much harder to fight (it is hard to tell distance and incoming attacks from the left) and like that he is constantly training himself (which would actually fit in Zoro's behavior)? or maybe just nothing at all?

I think Oda made it like that to make him look like a total badass.

Anime explanation : Dracule Mihawk must have did that to him (same a Shanks).

The manga will go on for another few years. We will eventually get an explanation. Only a matter of time.

[Insert Sharingan or Rinnegan joke]

In all seriousness, there's probably nothing behind it. It just goes to show how arduous his training was during the timeskip.

Besides, Oda decided to change everyone else's appearances during those two years, so he had to come up with a new look for Zoro aswell, I guess.

Shanks' eye was cut by Blackbeard.

OT: I was thinking it could be the training thing. He most likely can't open it anymore, but I wouldn't really be surprised if he can open it(maybe with some difficulty). Idk if there would be a power though. Maybe he took one of Mihawk's eyes? We haven't seen him since the timeskip.

I think he's keeping there some energy, like Koenma or Zaraki.

It could be a training accident, or just an element of added badassery. Shit like that is never explained properly.

I guess that if it is really a training thing he will show us once he is in a pinch. I discarded this idea previously because i was like ''well he was in a pinch back then during Fishman Island Arc'', but maybe he wasn't actually in a desperate situation. We will just have to wait to see.

Decent theory: he got cut while training, badass effect.
Overrated joke: he's got Sharingan.
Another idea: has an eye that shoots lazer beams as last resort weapon.

Maybe it's just temporary because an accident while training and not healed yet. I hope he would open it again.

Well it's already quite some time since the timeskip and even if Zoro would've hurt himself at the latest possible point it would be healed by now.

I simply think that Mihawks training was that hard that he got injured badly and lost one eye.
Thinking he got one eye from Mihawk is kinda ridicolous in my opinion, OP is not fucking Naruto where eyes get exchanged like presents on christmas.

I'm actually fairly certain the cause of it will be revealed in the final fight of Zoro and Mihawk. But it looks badass on Zoro. I like it.

I doubt Mihawk went easy on him. It's Mihawk after all. Losing an eye in such training seems a small price to me.

My theory is that he has it closed because he is half asleep. An ongoing joke with Zoro is that he's always sleeping, even through the worst of storms. Maybe he has just mastered a way to keep his stamina by being half asleep lol. Since he's also gotten more arrogant since the time-skip and has yet to face a serious opponent I wouldn't be surprised if it's also like he's looking down on those he fights, or is not serious until he meets an opponent worthy of him. Much like Mihawk.

If that's the case and he opens both eyes perhaps he is able to use Conqueror's Haki, which wouldn't be too far fetched since Gol D. Rogers First-mate could use it. Or perhaps it has something to do with his six armed demon form, which maybe is a lot stronger now.

Then again, it could just be that Mihawk cut his eye.....

Took his eye? That's too extreme... I don't believe that Zoro would be able to do it, Mihawk is still one of the strongest characters in the series. But since Mihawk is one of the best characters with control on Kenbunshoku Haki, I believe that he taught Zoro how to use his "extreme control" over it to Zoro. Why only one eye? Probably Zoro isn't able to control it during too much time, that's why he closes his eye. Why not both? He wouldn't see shit because he would have to close both eyes.
That's just a theory though, don't take it seriously, my theories are always wrong xD

No. Just no. This isn' Naruto where eyes are basically a currency and everyone can trade their eyes whenever they want to.

He is both constantly training and suppressing excess power. He will open his that eye when he is in a pinch and a boost will come out, like Shaka does in Saint Seiya.
