Question: Why do some characters close one eye while talking?

I want to know why some characters from different anime close one eye while talking, it don't seem to be a random act.
For example, Mashiro + his mom and Takagi from Bakuman does it while being completely serious.
Also noticed it in 3-4 other anime ~

Any information will be appreciated.

To hide their heterochromia, anime is filled with haters who don't like girls with heterochromia, I think they should show it off, heterochromia is sexy.

actually I never see any one eye closed talking unless the eye that closed can't be opened(injured or smth) the one that I saw was two eyes closed while talking, and I think because it's japanese and chinese nature appearance to have a "near closed eye"(don't know what the term used for these thing) not like a lot of people who has a wide open eye appearance. do you mean one eye closed is a wink or what?

No I just mean that some people in anime simply close one eye for between 5 to20 seconds in a conversation. So not a wink or something like that.
It seems natural (in the anime) but i cant say i understand why they do it.

Just one eye closed? I've never noticed this was a trend. In fact I'm pretty sure it's not.

Due to the lack of actual facial features in anime character design, some exaggerations are taken with facial expressions. The one eye closed, depending on context, typically means the character feels it is imparting wisdom to someone (if serious) or trying to be coy/ cute (if suggestive/ joking) or resentfully listening (if in an argument) (the latter usually also combined with crossed arms)

Reborn's adult Lambo used to do that.
Emotion and coolness depends on the character, I think in this case it represented laziness.

Its just like smiling with your eyes closed. In anime it's cute but if you try it in real life you will look retarded
