Is it a good thing that Tokyopop licensed Mirai Nikki?

Well for me, it's half n half since I would like to get my hands on an English one but at the same time more manga for weeaboos, so...

I was wondering when it'll get picked up. I prefer other manga publishers, but I'm glad I can buy this manga.

The only problem with a licensed manga is that scanlators end up dropping the series. Mirai Nikki keeps getting scanlators switched so I like to read from One Manga, where many Tokyopop manga gets suspended (surprising, other licensed stuff remains.)

I just started reading this series today, and I think it's definitely a good thing. The fan translations are such utter shit that, despite Tokyopop's bad reputation, I really don't think they could make it any worse than what we're getting now. On top of the fact that the fan scans had to go through both Japanese and Chinese before being translated into English, I couldn't bring myself to read anything after chapter 15 due to the FOE shopped into the middle of an important scene and the constant atrocious grammar.

Edit:
Disregard that, I ended up reading everything translated so far anyway because I needed to see what my wife would do next. (ΘεΘ;) I still think it's good that Tokyopop picked it up, though.

Of course it's good. It's always a good thing when a manga gets licensed~ someone out there is always delighted for a title to get picked up. Plus, I prefer buying manga so I'm delighted that it's been picked up. Better quality, translations and all that.

What worries me is that they tend to drop a lot of projects, so they could possibly drop this one too.

I'd much prefer Yen Press or Del Ray getting the title... or even Go Comi. I don't trust Tokyopop with my manga series at all and haven't for quite some time.

To tell you the truth I've never even heard of this manga. Thing is Tokyopop is one of the worst manga publishers ever. The font is much too small and are compressed into little scenes. Plus, their taste in manga is almost non existent.

Mirai Nikki is on my plan to read and I think I'm going to read one volume online and then decide will I buy it. Tokyopop has ok publishes but they better do good translates.

I think it's good 'cause if this manga takes my attention I definitely wanna own it.

// now I'm so going to buy it 'cause it's so fcking addicting and characters are awesome. Hopefully it comes to Finland soon ~~

This. Even though I dislike Tokyopop for several reasons >_<

Too bad Yen Press didn't get it, it would have fit in nicely next to Zombie-Loan, lol.

I'm glad because I definitely want to own this series. Like others have stated Tokyopop don't have a very good track record but hopefully they won't do too bad. The only thing I think they could possibly mess up would be the diary names other than that I can't think of anything atm.

I'd prefer if another company licensed it, since Tokyopop tends to fail at manga sometimes. D:.

What I'm worried about is it being made into an anime and picked up by Adult Swim a la Death Note. Now THAT is what draws in the weeaboos.

The cover for it's out.

It's, uhm, not that pretty.

They've a skull in the middle of 'Future Diary', and with the tagline over it, "every text you get might be your last". Instead of the white effective background we had for volume one, instead we've all black, and the cover just looks too confusing.

Yeah, I saw that cover a while ago and hell no, it's horrible. I prefered the white background over the black one and I don't like that they even translated the name D: Future Diary ... uguu. That cover won't be that attractive as the Japanese version of it ...

Anyway, going to buy and I can just hope that the translate is good.

Shame, I was thinking of buying it when it came out, but the cover changed my mind. Is it that hard for people to buy something without having a tagline on it?

Still haven't gotten my copy yet because I'm ordering it from amazon... but I got a chance to look through it a a book store and the translation seemed to be alright. I have to agree with everyone on the cover though, it looks awful and the cheesy tagline... but even so I really looking forward to owning this series.

I would have liked if another publisher had done it, but I'm very glad it's coming out in english. So yes, it is a good thing.

I honestly don't like it that Tokyopop licensed this one.
They've pissed me off multiple times in the past by dropping series that were almost done anyway, and I've completely stopped buying manga from them.
Guess this just means it'd be better to continue buying the Japanese version of this manga like I was already doing.

Well it can't be any worse than the fan translations with those annoying and unfunny editor notes every other page right? ...right? =(
Anyone with over 10 shows ranked at 10/10 clearly needs to re-evaluate their idea of a 'masterpiece'.

Yes and no. Translations are better than fanmade, but the quality of paper is killing me. Whole album feels like a bad newspaper! I´m afraid to read my copy too much, because it might damage it.

It's a more or less yes/no.

I hate how easily the cover is damaged, and how thin the pages are. On the other hand I would've liked them to get over Viz any day.

Well, now it is being made into an anime but don't worry about Adult Swim airing it, they don't really air new anime anymore, they just re-air last decade's anime.
