THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

So... Let's see if I got this: The duel monsters cards were already existing 10.000 years ago in Atlantis and this evil guy wants to summon Leviathan? Holy shit... I kinda like the setting and the ideas, especially that Yugi rescues and uses new dragons. But I don't know why they're messing up the story of the mangaka, I mean in the original they started playing with these monsters in Egypt about 5.000 years ago, they're changing the story! Or maybe we get a huge plottwist that they're making this up... But oh well, even if the anime has another storyline, if it doesn't get boring, it's fine for me.

That's what I call a surreal episode. By the way, I liked it!

Note: Actually isn't "5000 years", it's 3000 (at least in the Japanese version).

I'm not sure, but I believe this will not change much the story. As I recall, in ancient Egypt they just sealed the monsters on stone tablets, but these creatures may have existed before that.

Cheesy filler as it is, this episode was enjoyably dynamic and excitingly full-on magic-fantasy. (crazy motorbike airdrops, mysterious visions, otherworldy visits, and larger-than life solid vision magical displays. Some solid animation work and the new soundtracks helped move it along especially - the track at the end with Timaeus's summoning was particularly sexy.

I don't take this arc so seriously and just enjoy it for some of the cool ideas and the premise.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

So in this episode, some more background on the Duel Monsters and how they came into existence was given. Some interesting stuff. Huh? Rebecca is a university student?? Golly, she really is a 天才.

On another note, turns out that the Duel Monsters' world and the real world are somehow merging together! Black Magician Girl asks her master for help! Yuugi awakens the first dragon, Timaeus! Alrighty, now we're cookin'!

This episode was the DM series' "jump the shark" moment. The fact that the filler writers decided to make up the world of monster spirits when it didn't exist in the source material still bothers me to this day.

It's especially annoying because the spirits seen in this episode including the spirit version of DMG barely have any relevance in the plot later on, so you get to thinking that the entire idea introduced here didn't need to exist at all. :/

That sucks to hear because it's quite a cool idea if it could be fleshed out and justified.
