Just finished this show. I like how they have a different concept. Overall it was an okay show nothing too flashy. Now honestly speaking I didn't like the art at all as it seemed childish maybe due to the production budget. The first five episodes were great but it went downhill from there at least for me since I'm not really into all the political/economical stuff where the MC wants to improve the world behind the scenes as I was expecting more action and adventure from the MC. Though I really liked the MC as an intelligent strategist/mastermind but other than that he was boring to watch. It needs more romance but considering how dense the 23 year old is I might have to wait. I still don't get why the made Akatsuki in to a petite girl it just didn't make sense. Oh well there is still hope. 7/10 |

one thing that has been bothering me for a long time is how are they stuck in a game through a update like are they on there computers like normal i don't know how you can't walk away from the computer i don't remember them using some sort of vr headset or something the thing with sword art online is it explain how there stuck and why then can't leave but in log horizon there's not really a explanation of this |

Oh my god, the romance portion totally sucked! It could have been so much better if they didn't add any romance in there. Now the ninja and the middle school girl Minori suffer from character development because of this. Damn, I'm so depressed after reading the novel too. I thought it wasn't so severe with the romance like SAO but boy is it annoying. |

Shiro's first talk with Regan I believe explained what happened (not just the explanation, but the mechanics, note that their actual bodies were not transported, they are in their avatars). Shiro's "goal" at the end of this episode is also suggestive. What could be bigger than returning home, or perhaps I should say merely returning home. We know that Shiro has an idea of how to do it (whether or not successfully), so this suggests that he knows HOW it was done. I think I have a pretty strong clue on what this "bigger" thing is, but waiting to see what the writer has in store (and he definitely has something in store) is going to be fun. Very happy that the second season is later this year. |

This show does what S.A.O failed to do. It manages to create immersion in a virtual world. Laws, rules, objectives, everything about the world is nicely immersed into the anime without having rows of text bombard us every second. Romance is nicely added in and it's not overshadowing the anime's true goal of telling a story of this dream world and everything in it. Log Horizon follows a red line that I rarely see in any anime nowadays, namely logic. The world of Log Horizon is a world guided by rules and laws. It has immersive history that gives the world further mystery which leads to interesting thoughts. Characters are interesting as well, esp Shiro himself. Seeing as I'm an anime watcher only I don't know much about his past in the world of Log Horizon. Bits of information about it reveals itself here and there, but nothing big so far, which further gives his backstory mystery value. The show even manages to be funny at times. Henrietta has her loli fetishes and Akatsuki gives us some funny moments together with Naotsugu's unfinished pant...ies dialogue. I enjoyed Log Horizon for what it managed to do, create immersion. I was actully interested in the different skills and roles of the adventurers. It felt like I was watching Runescape becoming an anime at times, which was very nice. Current verdict for this show as of now: 9/10 |

Glasses need to be nerfed in the next patch. Too OP. Overall, I freaking loved this anime. The strategy/action scenes were perfectly balanced. Though I didn't really like the harem..y.. bits that were hinted at later, I still loved this show. 8.5/10 :D |

If you read the manga side, you can see that shiroe played the game on desktop like us and after agreeing on updating the version to noosphere by clicking it while drinking, he then poof, missing in the thin air while his drink drop from the air. Yeah, it's not fair to question something that not happened yet in anime but for the sake of discussion, it will turn out to be assumption/speculation/forecasting on what the writer will lead the story to. I can say that shiroe has planning something in order to go back home. Just review the past episode where shiroe objectives was to create the RTC. He doesn't said that he want to create RTC right away infront of Maryle and Henrietta but instead that request on helping him to get 5m gold by selling the burger and making some negotiationg with other crafting guild. I do think that it is the same thing with the objective on return to home. He won't said that return to home was not important but not a priority at current situation as it impossible to do without a plan and what we see until now is the progress on long plan that he made, not the result right away like other mmorpg anime. |

The whole anime has been, overall, a very surprising and pleasant experience. What I thought to be another .hack / Ragnarok Online / Sword Art Online copy, turned out to be something completely different. Very much looking forwards to Season 2, in the Fall! |

Soren333 said: Can't say that I really enjoyed this series. For an anime to be set in a game world I sort of expected more action, questing, boss fights etc. Rather than the players building their own society. Also, I really want to know why they are stuck in this game, which we have yet to know. Characters definitely had their own personalities shown, but lacked development in my opinion. I give this series a 6.5/10 I guess this post pretty much sums up how I feel after completing this show. Plus hey, how could they miss that Rundelhaus was from the People of the Land? I thought whether they're one of them or an Adventurer could be seen on their status screen. Honestly, I expected Log Horizon to be better than SAO, but it turned out to be almost more boring at the end, at least to me. Too many clichés among the characters, poor and unnecessary romance, the story moves way too slowly... Still some good ideas like not focusing on how to come back to real life but trying to give this world some laws and equality, or being able to go against the initial rules of the game by creating new spells... But that still wasn't enough for me and I'm probably not going to watch the second season. 6/10 |

He won't said that return to home was not important but not a priority at current situation as it impossible to do without a plan and what we see until now is the progress on long plan that he made, not the result right away like other mmorpg anime. I didn't read the manga, so this is a (good) spoiler to me. It reminds me of how the main protagonist in TRON entered it.. anyway, since i already wrote a speculation that defies that very scene in manga, might as well just copy it here.. If you think about it, why ressurected players lose some of their RL (real life) memory but not LH memory (that is, the memory they gained in LH world). My theory: IN SHORT: THIS IS A GAME / SIMULATION The adventurers are a copy of RL players participating in the novasphere expansion, by "copy" i mean all of their consciousness and RL memory. So, while RL players are still alive in the RL, they can observe how their clones in the game world living a fantasy life - like you do with an ant farm. What is the purpose of this clone-sim game, IDK, maybe because it was a beta project to "back-up" one consciousness to a digital version so they can (essentially) achieve immortality, who knows. just made some reason up. So, all of the Alv-PotL-demi humans story, basically everything that made LH, are made-up story to convince the clones, because unless they believe that they're "THE REAL ONES", we can't observe their reaction as intended. It also explains why they can't remember HOW they ended up in LH, yet they can remember anything ELSE prior to the novasphere patch. Like a child padawan said: "because someone erased it from the archive memory" (SWII:Attack of the clones, 00:37:33) This also explain why each time the clones are ressurected, they lose a portion of RL memoy. Because the game "saves" everytime you died, for data backup purpose. In short, when you died this happens: 1. the game saves your LH data (whatever you experience in-game prior to death) 2. the game deletes your current avatar 3. the game creates a blank avatar at cathedral 4. the game writes the blank avatar with your LH data Because the game wasn't designed to save&rewrite your RL memory there's a bug where you loses some portion of it. After all, how did you digitize your memory perfectly? like for example, your RL first kiss memory, what did you feel at that time, etc. let's just assume no program/game can ever recreate human consciousness perfectly. UNLESS that first kiss happened inside LH, where everything were already binaries in the first place. (imagine how NEO sees THE MATRIX in CODES) To speculate further, isn't it possible that the PotL are failed "clones" of this "digitization" experiment? because they can't ressurect, generally weak, and don't have any RL memory, yet they behave as though they're humans. sounds like an alpha-phase avatars to me. or SIMS 1. and then Shiroe patched Rudy, the PotL / SIMS 1, to SIMS 2 / the Adventurer, thru the contract spell. you get the idea. And better yet.. This scenario fit the OP song, right? "We live in the database" XD *as a side note: this "digitized clones" scenario reminds me of a story arc in Stargate:SG-1 where the scouting team accidentally trapped in some sort of alien game machine, and forced to play their avatars in a made-up world while their real bodies were suspended in some sort of stasis tube. Also, the upcoming EDGE OF TOMORROW movie tagline = LIVE | DIE | REPEAT |

Well, the last few episodes definitely weren't as eventful as I would have hoped. They seemed a lot better suited to be mid season episodes but I liked the end. I hope their next goal is to tackle some higher level content. I also wonder what shiro has in mind for leaving. |

Was I the only one who thought the OP was pretty unfitting? Not the lyrics but the tone. I mean, you got this song playing that sounds like some serious ass kicking is about to go down and then most of the anime is politics. Anyway, one thing that really bothered me about this show was how no one seemed very alarmed by being suddenly pulled into a game and being unable to log out. It's like "Oh, we're living in this game now for who knows how long? Whatever." Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying their main focus should be how to get out of the game but it just struck me as somewhat unrealistic. I mean, I get that they don't have to worry about dying for real so it's not too bad but Crusty was the only one who even mentioned his family. Another problem is that since there's very little penalty for death, the few fight scenes there were lacked tension. The characters overall could have used more development as well. With all that said, this anime was strangely...peaceful. I liked the world building, the way the different classes/sub-classes were handled and the angle with the npcs or people of the land. 7/10 |

Timeskips are poorly conveyed in the anime, also rearranging of events don't help. By the time Shiroe and Nao run into Akatsuki, it's been 5 days, people have already started to give up hope and started doing nothing, by the time they finish practicing on low level monsters, it's been around 2 weeks already and most have already fallen into despair and just sat around doing nothing. At the time of Libra Festival, it's already been 5~6 months. |

I know its just me, but politics and economy has a good chemistry with peaceful theme Yep the OP has nothing to do with the theme of the anime as a whole, which is a disappointment. But still very enjoyable since many anime today used J-POP, I hope there would be a peaceful OP like in Spice & Wolf The 25th episode is better than expected in my opinion. |

Considering i knew that a 2nd season was coming, i expected the ending to be rather dull, but was hoping nonetheless to be a bit more than what had happened. I think the biggest point with this one is the fact that unlike SAO, this really mimicked what i would envision playing an MMO in real life would be. Yeah, i suppose they cut out a lot of the drama with the whole suddenly being put into a this situation. But truthfully, it's rather unnecessary. I'd much rather skip the cliche drama and go right into the story just as they did it, without wasting X number of 25 episodes to show me what i'd already expect to happen, that's just me though. I didn't really care too much for the romance at the end, what killed SAO was the unnecessary over focus on romance in a show that was focused in the 1st half on being a survival/life-death genre, so i hope the primary focus will continue to be on the story, and not on a romance. I think was definitely pretty good, and i expect a good 2nd season as well. 8/10 |

Akatsuki becomes the traditional fallen over love, which destroys her character development. Why couldn't she be like Mikasa without the useless romance and just be a bodyguard with own goals but nooooooooo, she has to revolve around Shiroe! And then that girl that was an apprentice was going so great with her relationship being strictly student and teacher but then she also has to be those typical shoujo airheads that suddenly fall hopelessly in love with Shiroe. She had a good thing going but that disrupts everything. Now all she will become is useless always thinking about Shiroe. Now that I think about it, all the female characters become in love somehow/someway but the male characters ignore that and get down to business. This is the reason why females are looked upon as being useless without male counterpart. |

I bet she liked that Shiroe slap :3 I really found the first few episodes of this Anime to be pretty boring, but then I started to enjoy it and really enjoy it :D I am glad that I don't drop Anime and Manga!! This is really different from SAO. So please, stop comparing already!! I enjoyed SAO, too. They will leave Akihabara?!?! This series is great when it has everyone working together to make the world a better place, with a sense of true camaraderie and trust. It's at its worst when it starts creeping into cliche harem antics with pretty much every other girl falling for Shiroe. The author does have more tact than the usual LN writer, and this airing at NHK keeps in check some of the most annoying things that no doubt exist in the novels from being on the show, but there are things that still kind of sully a work that could be completely above low brow otaku pandering. Still, I love the politics and economics based plot with a smart MC. I love that it has a genuine sense of adventure that enamored me to anime in the first place, and I love that it captures mmorpg experience in a way no other anime has been able to. Overall, weak beginning and end with some unnecessary otaku pandering. But since I enjoyed everything else so much, I'll give it a 8/10. |

Now this is what we call Sid Meier's Civilization: The MMORPG! Never seen such mmorpg-oriented anime to have rolled such scope, depth and socio-political insight as this. this show should also be formally called the "Anti-SAO", given it really is way opposite to what aincrad/alo/ggo world is actually headin. Not much a fan of sao, but it has its own greatness of passion and feels...but this...elder tale is "mmorpg's spice&wolf", with MC as the thinker's Kirito(complete with harem) XD Since im a thinker, i rate it better than alfheim/aincrad...8/10 Too bad for the "quality" animation, w/c is not necessary for this kind of show though. |

After SAO, I had my expectations pretty low for this, but it was better than expected. Much of the politics and economics was pretty legit, and it carried the show. For me, this was really a dark horse among series. It has some flaws, such as many of the annoying running gags and an overly laid-back attitude at some points, and they prevent it from being one of the best. But at least this show felt like it had some substance, which can't be said about many others out there. |

My thoughts on this anime. This is no doubt better than SAO, even though it's lacking of action. The scenes of the characters are pretty well balance, unlike SAO that it's more on that good looking chicks magnet boy. There's still more things that unexplained like hod did Rudy get the sorcerer job etc. I noticed that every low level characters have kids appearance while almost all of those high level players are adult (Shiroe is smaller on real world). Iirc it was explained on episode 1 that their appearance is different from the real world. I hate it that the author had to make it like that. I can't really stand Crusty, he takes all the glory that Shiroe should have. Please princess don't fall for him lol. That's all for now, pardon my english. |

Shiroe said "our next goal will be.." and later in the ep he said "from here we will change the world" , So what if he wants to change the real world from inside of elders tale?? This sound not so logical but it would be a damn big clever plan! By the way I think we are gonna see silver wind guild going up against log horizon at season 2! |

Most of my problems were addressed during this episode: - Mo one was able to beat the level cap of 90 - looks as though that will be covered next season. - Tjey aren't making any efforts to escape / find out the cause of the apocalypse - I thought it was more of just an excuse to set the scene, but looks like that may be next season's plot. I wonder what they were talking about regarding sending people back / the disappearances. Shiro probably wrote out a contract, but sounds risky and who would test it? And I KNEW IT! Buying the Cathedral would be bad, like what happened in the other town. They really need to get it sorted quickly in Akhibara before someone else claims it! Next season looks like it could be much better than this one, especially given that they've made a foundation for this world. |

blessofcurse said: My thoughts on this anime. You're English was pretty good considering it's your second(+) language! I think you were able to choose appearances when you began - hence Shiro saying he made himself taller. Children would tend to make characters resembling themselves. It doesn't hold true for real MMOs, but makes sense I guess, and is a good way to show progression. It seems as though you can change appearance through potions as well (Akatsuki changing her height at the beginning), so if they became higher levelled, they'd probably make themselves taller. The whole appearance thing wasn't explained that well though. Totally agree though, Shiro needs to work on his public persona. |

I don't really get the point of trying to "change the world". I'd say it would be more interesting to find a way back home, but I guess it would resemble SAO too much. Speaking of which, I'd say this series is better, but I also enjoyed SAO. However, NGNL beats both of these shows for me, that show is probably my favourite of 2014. But I'm super glad and excited that all these shows have 2+ seasons (although I'm not sure if NGNL 2nd season was announced yet, but they'll definitely make it either way). |

decent overall could do without kiddy party and mini-harem shit could def. use more compelling arcs and villians def. need more politics need art/animation/fx upgrade more screen time for akatsuki the list goes on.. it's also clear that shiroe is a pedo (unless minori is actually in her 20's) somewhat enjoy it overall 8/10 |

I love the fact that he makes no effort to escape. Maybe some of the other people want to, but didn't some of them start that game to escape reality? Why would you want to return after being brought into a life of adventure? There isn't even the super serious risk of dying? You could lose some memories, sure, but so far the theorized they were only about the "real world", so who cares if they wanted to escape that anyway? I know I wouldn't look for a way back, especially seeing how in Shiroe's position you'd have created a guild and gotten really good friends. Not to mention he's somebody who has influence in this world. It'd make more sense to want to return if you were a "nobody", you know? flaxman85 said: could do without kiddy party and mini-harem shit could def. use more compelling arcs and villians def. need more politics need art/animation/fx upgrade more screen time for akatsuki the list goes on.. I agree about the kiddy party. I'm fine with it existing, but it got a bit more screentime than I would have liked to see. Also, harem nonsense is never my thing. I can see Akatsuki and Minori liking him (was a bit surprised by Henrietta being in love with him), but the attempts to date him took me a bit out of the whole politics flow of the anime, while that was the aspect I liked so much about it. And if Shiroe falls for Minori, I'll start disliking this stuff a lot :p If this is gonna seriously touch on romance, then at least give me a decent romance plot with Akatsuki and not Minori, who's a bit too childish in the whole thing for me. |

Better than SAO and that's all I was hoping for,(hell this even exceed my expectations) 8/10.Can't believe I missed out on LH when it was airing because I thought it be like SAO,they're not even remotely comparable quality wise. Really liked the worldbuild they had in this,so hope they go further indepth about it in S2. Would like it if they showed more about what is going on in the other adventurer cities outside of Akihabara,as well as more interactions with said cities. Another point in which LH clearly has SAO beat imo, would be the characters.Basically the whole cast were really likable were as SAO can't even produce a single likable character. |
