So, based on Volume 7 of NT, and when they met in the Railgun manga, its pretty obvious that they knew each other before Touma's memory loss way back in Volume 1(which in itself alludes that he knows her).

So here's the topic at hand... anybody know have any ideas how they may know each other?

I am basing my analysis of their relationship on two quotes in particular:

Misaki: "But I have a reason to trust what you say that is completely unrelated to
that cheap nonsense.”

Miskai: "But you are always like this. Perhaps that is the proper form for our relationship ability. No matter how many times I ask or our paths cross, the answer is always the same. Saying this will probably make you angry just like back then, but perhaps that is my punishment for having this power. After all, these repeated coincidences cannot be explained logically☆"

Based on the fact that she seems to trust him absolutely, is intimately familiar with his personality, and on top of which almost seems to imply that he has saved her in the past(her comment about him being angry "just like back then" seems to be about her saying she was being punished for her power, which could mean she said that around him before, which especially if he knew her(but this being Touma, even if he didn't) could make him angry and try to save her from such self destructive thoughts) I'm betting she is yet another of his haremettes, one he had before it grew to such ungodly proportions.

As for him, I'm thinking he thought of her as just a friend, or avoided a relationship because he thought his bad luck would ruin it and their contact was only intermittent to begin with(possibly explained by the fact that she doesn't seem to leave the private girls school area very much, or even send her minions out of it more than necessary), which may explain why she hasn't shown up before now.

I say intermittent but its clear that they ran into each other more than once or twice, and must have had at least semi-regular contact for her to act so familiar, comfortable and trusting of him, especially considering her extreme distrust of people she cannot mind read.

So long story short, what do the good people over on myanimelist think of my analysis? If different than my own, what is yours?

I tend to agree with you. For me, the main thing that made it obvious was when Touma asked Misaka who Misaki was, they only showed half of Misaki's face, but her reaction was obvious, she seemed devastated, shocked, but seemed to already be aware of it, since she didn't let it get to her. Also in the spoilers for chapter 62 of railgun, it shows that Misaki is able to send messages to Touma's mind and somewhat control him, but she only did it to tell touma no to use imagine breaker to break their current connection. The moment she saw touma, she said to her self something along the lines of "its incredible, you seem to always show up at the right time. If it was unrelated to me I'd be somewhat pissed, but since its related to me, you're like my prince" Then it switches to another panel and shows misaki's face, shes extreamly happy even thought she was close to dying no so long ago and says something along the lines of "its not fair, that all the other girls are so selfish"
That makes confirms what you said, that for Misaki touma's an important person, also another thing that backs it up is that it seems Misaki's closest thing to a friend it Seria, and Seria is only an advisor for Touma's sake, so it wouldn't be a surprise if the three of them where close.
Im guessing those two where involved with touma those few months before he meet index, when he skipped a few months of school for some reason or another.

Right, I forgot about that. That's a very good theory, and hopefully it will be panned out in the series.

I wonder what they/he could have been up to during that time... I don't recall any hints during the series, does anybody have any ideas? For me, I'm hoping it'll have something to do with the #6, who despite nearly 30 main novels and a couple side story ones has yet to be introduced, even by their ability name.

Yeah either that or at least show how Seria and Touma knew each otherm and the relationship between them. Same here, I can't seem to remember anything that would hint to what Touma's did, and yeah it would be interesting to see who the sixth level five is. Also it would make sense for it to be revolved around 6th, since besides misaki, none of the other level fives knew of touma, misaka also but thats because of their fights, and Touma never hesitated to fight misaka, a level 5. That somewhat hints that he was atleast used to fighting enemies that were as strong as a level 5, misaki wouldn't count since she lacks the destructive force of the others. So, touma either fought 6th before fighting misaka, or maybe 7th, but I doubt that.

Indeed, this would have been back before Touma's memory loss, and based on the things that Terra of the Left said, he should have been familiar with what Imagine Breaker could do, and maybe what it's for(suppressing the Invisible Thing sealed in his arm/shoulder... though why its even there is still a mystery). We also know that that Touma was very much capable of using Imagine Breaker in combat, he fought Misaka and Style with it no problem, and even John's Pen Index. So it's not a big jump to think that maybe he had some run ins with the #6 (who would be in the same league as Misaka at least), and it could explain Seria's familiarity with him if they met during that time, perhaps in her capacity as the brain of one of the Board Members. It might also shine some more light on pre-memory loss Touma's personality, which all we really know of was that it was fairly cynical and had the urge to save people.

True, Terra had some of the answers, but now Ollerus is the one that has them, and touma out right rejected them. It also seems true, what you said of pre-memory loss Touma being cynical, its as if he was already used to fights of that scale, one mistake and you're as good as dead. Also about Seria, its somewhat implied that Seria is only the advisor, or brain, of one of the board of directors for touma's sake, so they must've meet earlier than that event.
