I'd say people who can't read are certainly in the minority here, yes.

Liking or preferring dubs =/= Not being able to read.

Unless you're five years old. :/

Eh. Do hafta remember that some people are slower readers, have dyslexia etc. and I can imagine the frustration of having to rewind over and over due to that.

But I imagine for most people who prefer dubs, then yes, it is just lazyness. ;;>_>

Or it could just be that they actually like the dubs better.-_-

Agreed. There are plenty of great dubs.

Don't care about Gad Guard, btw.

So, according to the clues, we still have Vandread, Last Exile and Gankutsuou as the "SAFE" titles, and Soul Eater, Eva Rebuild and Oh! Edo Rocket as the "new" titles. Plus the two "mystery" titles, one of which is speculated to be Hetalia Axis Powers.

I'd have thought that they would get the "SAFE" titles out of the way first, but a Funi rep posted on ANN's boards that that may not necessarily be the case.

So, what's for Christmas? :3
You've come a long way, baby.

Oh I've been meaning to watch Gad Guard for a while. I probably won't buy it, but this reminded me to add it to my plan to watch list. Anyway:

Day 2: SAFE~!

lol I wonder what FUNi will pick next ;P

Dare I even attempt to understand why a series that ADV gave away for £1 per volume, with Vol. 6 & 7 on one DVD, is being relicensed in America? It has awful reviews and I've never even seen it mentioned on anime forums. I can understand Battle Vixens (fan service) and Vandread (pretty good series) being relicensed, but Gad Guard? Only an idiot would do it.

Maybe they got it cheap? It's a Gonzo show and Funimation has been licensing a lot of their properties.

Uh, no? Neither Rumbel or Shinsen use it. Shinsen used "jack of all trades" for the first few episodes, and then eventually the viewer was supposed to know what Yorozuya meant.

there is no doubt in my mind that Funimation is evil in every way, and wants to ruin our lives. I mean, the other day I'm all "Oh! I should put the Seto No Hanayome sub on DVD's before some stupid-ass company licenses it" AND I COULDN'T FIND IT.
Funimation will fuck this one up like they do pretty much everything else.

Well, to be fair, most MAL users don't "give a shit" that you only watch "English dubbed anime", but that doesn't stop you from mentioning it every chance you get.

And yes, I'd say this is definitely a factor in the spiral of the R1 industry, though I will admit that the companies themselves are not totally free from blame.

I will buy anime series on DVD that I really like though, once I can manage to get a job. I'll only buy the DVDs after I download and watch the series for free first though.

The only other time that I will buy anime DVDs is if I can't find them for download.

The way you responded to CCZilla gave me the impression that you didn't understand why he thought DVD rips were worse than fansubs, so I was trying to explain that point of view. Excuse me if I misinterpreted you.

Because it sounds like a fairly enjoyable show but nothing mind-blowing. I won't be rushing out to buy the DVDs but it's nice to know they'll be there. :)

You really are completely missing the point, after all. Fansubs have an actual excuse. DVD rips do not.

Fansubs, in the usual case, exist to provide the usual Non-Japanese watcher otherwise unaccesible material. That's why the more established fansub groups (read as: the ones who aren't hiding) stop distribution as soon as a distributor obtains the license for the region in question (ussually North America) or the japanese companies distribute it themselves. Sure, most watchers go for them because they are free, but the main point IS that they provide access to programs we just can't get in any other form.

What you are advocating is plain and simply stealing. It doesn't even have an excuse to ride upon. You are downloading an illegal ripped video from a material you could obtain in a legal way in your own region. You shamelessly say to yourself "I can get it for free, so why should I pay?" and don't look back.

Now, I won't call myself innocent of partially going for fansubs because they are free, but at the very least I try to concede and buy anime I enjoy. I guess that would make me a little of a hypocrite(sp?) though.
