Don't really read this kind of stuff but the ones I like are..

Peacemaker Kurogane..
Gamaren..
Judging from this thread I guess my tastes in samurai manga aren't refined.

You can apply those quotes to anything, but you'll never beat the original context to do with Snape.

Gintama if you want comedy.
But if you want pure samurai/historical stuff, then:

Lone Wolf and Cub is an absolute must
then Vagabond. Though, I read them in reverse(maybe that actually helped in some mysterious way). Anyway. Don't miss out on them.

of course Vagabond and Blade Of The Immortal.

Hinata no Ookami - Shinsengumi Kidan by Saito Misaki is also a good read

and why on earth people mentioned Naruto here??

Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me

VAGABOND.
It's seriously the most symbolic, beautifully drawn, entertaining, and addictive manga I've ever read. I sit around for hours thinking deeply about it, and how sick it would be if it were an anime. If someone were to do it right, it could easily become one of the best of all time. If the fighting wasn't enough, the pace that the story is told, the attention to detail, the character development, and the characters themselves should make this completely obvious. When I say attention to detail, and symbolism, I'm talking 'bout this. There's a part in the manga where the main protagonist,Shinmen Takezo, is fighting someone called Tsujikaze Kohei. It's impressive shit.

heard nothing but great things about this and blade of the immortal. i like your signature, what is it from?

3. Vagabond

I've heard Lone Wolf and Cub is a great manga but I haven't read it yet but all other samurai manga I've read don't come close to those 3.

while Samurai Champloo is great, shouldn't you just watch the anime? it is the exact same thing, right? i haven't finished either one.

Some day I'll read Lone Wolf and Samurai Executioner, got to set time for those classics. The thing about Vagabond is it's kinda direction-less. We know that Musashi will fight with Kojiro eventually, it's just that the middle part of the story lacks focus.

Rurouni Kenshin will always be nostalgic to me. Maybe it was the smell the manga's pages had.. Wait.. I DID get most of it from a used book store, though.. eugh!

Oh. Also, I liked all the author notes from Watsuki!
