When I started watching Ergo Proxy, I thought I had found the perfect anime suited for me until

Is there an anime out there that has no romance subplots and does not feature a young protagonist in his or her teens or early twenties?

Some off the top of my head that mostly follow what you want

Black Lagoon - all in their 20s and up
Seirei no Moribito - main character in her 30s / hinted romance but nothing big
Cowboy Bebop - I think I saw this on your completed list already could check out the movie too
Hellsing Ultimate - I think I saw the 13 ep series on your list too might as well check out the OVA

I had another one in my head but I cant remember it anymore

Tonari No Yamada-kun

It's a movie made out of (mostly) humorous shorts. The protagonists are as follows:
-two parents, ages unstated but appear past 30
-granny
-two kids, fairly young

The kids are more of a focus than the other characters, I think, but every character gets to star sometimes. And even though the parents are a married couple, they're not lovey-dovey in the least. In fact they argue a lot.

Thank you for the replies. I've already most of these on my "To Watch List" (though I've no idea why I added them); I suppose I should get around to watching them.

Thanks again!

I would say Master Keaton, except I assume romance subplots eliminate the option even if they're only an episode long/in points.

It's not that there aren't titles to fit your request, I'm just not sure if there are many worth suggesting or that would fit within your likes. Perhaps if you added additional stipulations/details on what you're looking for here?

Blade of the Immortal: I only watched the first episode, but the protagonist appears to be quite old and the anime itself goes along the lines of something like Claymore.
Death Note: Whether the protagonist is Yagami Light or L, neither are young.
Devil May Cry: Dante is not very young..
Growlanser IV: The anime is too short to have any romance subplots.
Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi: An anime focused on the yokai and exorcists in the Meiji era. The team consist of a little boy, a transgender, a monk, some other guy, and the protagonist who appears to be in his 30s.
Trinity Blood: The protagonist is a fairly kind priest that appears to be in his 30s or so, but his kindness sort of disappear when he faces enemies. He goes into berserk mode.

It's funny...after seeing the first post, I had a look through all the anime on my completed list to see if any matched the criteria...and I couldn't find one (aside from some already mentioned). It's surprising how many anime have at least one of those elements.

Anyway, I'd second Hellsing Ultimate, Black Lagoon, and the Ghost in the Shell's.

They're both 18. I would classify that as young.

Maybe Gungrave, if you think there young at the start, they get older as the show goes on anyways at some point if i remember correctly and the thing with Brandon and Maria isnt a sub plot, its more like a back story

thats about all i can think of right now

I'm not entirely sure how old Yang and Reinhard were in the start of Legend of the Galactic Heroes. But for the most of the time, they're well into their twenties, only Julian is a teenager, and he isn't that much of a central character through all of the series. And at any rate, he's certainly mature enough, so you shouldn't be bothered about that.
As for romance, there's some tiny bits here and there, but I certainly don't think it would be annoying, it's nothing like any of the cutesy stuff you find in a Romcom or a shounen/shoujo.
