Do you prefer reading a manga of a series, or watching the anime? I've been wanting to read manga, but I always see that there is an anime for whatever it is I want to read. I end up just going with anime instead. I was just curious which you guys prefer.

(Also, I wasn't sure exactly where to post this, so I just chose here.)

Whilst I prefer watching anime(due to being lazy clicking on page after page), in most cases I end having to pick up the manga anyways as most adaptations seem to only portray a certain amount of what the manga/story has to tell. Good examples like Beck, Berserk and Gantz give me reason to like manga a little more. On a tipping scale I'd say manga would be on a 60/40 for me.

On the other hand, there are some things which anime delivers such as bringing characters to life and even seeing your favorite manga being animated can make you appreciate how good a manga series is.

Manga. I enjoy reading. Plus, most anime which originally stemmed from manga content tend to leave out or modify the original material when they execute it in the series.

Manga all the way... It's both faster, better quality, and more enjoyable... It is nice to see and hear series animated though... :|

Can't choose. Sure manga's faster but there's just something in me that always say "Hey, you've read that much manga but you still haven't watched even one episode? Go watch now!" or something like that. In any case, I just can't live with just reading manga in a month.

Personally I prefer reading manga. In many cases, details and some storyline don't get included in the anime.
I want the original story, not just a fraction of it lol.

Manga, because sometimes the anime leaves out somethings, even if it not crucial. And I always prefer the original illustrations.

I like doing both, unfortunately i don't have at disposal enough time to watch anime, consequently it's easier for me to read manga.

It depends on the manga at issue. :P
For example, i absolutely don't want Vagabond to be animated, it would only ruin the manga.

I find manga much faster to get through and it doesn't give me a headache. With anime I can only watch one or two episodes at a time on my computer before I get a huge migraine. Not overly pleasant to say the least.

Mangas have more and better stories, but obviously anime has its good points as being with sound, voice and animation and color.

This x1000.
It's so much more faster too, and I can imagine the world it's in, rather than having it made for me. Plus somethings in manga is easier to express..

The one thing I dislike about manga is that you often can't tell what is happening in an action scene or have to study the scene meticulously. It happens when the gaps between frames are too great, the panels are small, the perspectives change and there is too much detail.

^ I had that problem with MKR, all the panels would just bleed into each other and there'd be sparkly shoujo effects crowding everything.

But yeah, like everyone else said, manga is more convenient. If I want some Evangelion I can just whip a volume out of my bookshelf and dive right into, versus having to turn on my tv, turn on the console, wait for console to initialize, insert DVD, wait for menu, etc., etc.

Yep completely agree,

It also takes the anime forever to catch up to the manga in some cases, or the anime is to far ahead and its just filler eps like bleach witch anoy me to no end

Well i use to dislike manga and prefer anime more.
But now it depends on the story, and how it is directed as an anime.
Manga or light novel is the real deal, the original work, while animes can cut out stuff.

For me i still prefer anime more, because its easier i dont have to be reading, just be lazy like watching tv. Also anime gives animation the colour and voices so it seems more realistic.

But in some cases such as SAO the light novel is much better than the anime.

Hmmm id say anime but its close they each have there own pros and cons like manga usually have a better story but the action scenes can get confusing. Anime better to watch no explanation needed but tend to either fuck up the story and or not finish which rages me to no end.

I usually like manga more. Anime has a set time that I have to sit there and watch, while manga I can read at my own pace rather than spending 25 or whatever minutes for an episode. I like that for some reason, if that even makes sense to other people.

I agree, i stopped watching anime like 4 years ago when i discovered manga. Although, recently i've been watching some anime because i can't seem to find any good mangas to entertain me (my standards have become very high). So i might go back to anime for a while.

If it's fanservice or action or any other visually based genre I probably won't even bother reading the manga. Beside that I'd say somewhat even, I think it mainly depends on how much of the story they cut out/changed in the adaption

Generally, i prefer reading manga, you know, it just makes your mind to think more creatively, and the one who choses the pace is you - you're the one imagining all the history, and it's in your head where actions take place so you can play with all these factors the way you find the series more interesting - it just adapts to you. And what's more, usuallly animes based on manga just mess up the original idea, it's not only the characters or the story what gets ruined, but also the way the autor choses to express it all trough art :D
So suming it up, if the original is the anime -> let's watch the anime and if the original is the manga -> let's read the manga, and that's what happens in most of cases, cuz manga world is way bigger than anime's, in question of creativity :D
(Of course, there may be exceptions too.. for example I enjoy much more Yu-Gi-Oh!'s anime than the manga...)

A few reasons I don't read manga:

1) Most all of the awesome anime I've seen have manga that are STILL ongoing, even ones from the 90's like Berserk. If you're like me, I can't stand waiting a few years for something to finish, I hate the suspense. I even stopped watching anime like Naruto-Shippuden for the same reason.

2) No color and simple art. I am baffled how this can be nearly as entertaining as watching anime.

3) No epic music to fit the mood (Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal anybody?)

On the other hand, I honestly have very strongly considered reading manga before, and still might some time soon because for every anime I love, someone ALWAYS mentions that the manga is way better story wise, explains more, and has more detail. Also, many anime stop dead in their tracks because they reach the point of the manga and either have to throw fillers in your face, or stop completely, which infuriates me (Claymore, Deadman Wonderland, D. Gray-Man). Also, some anime run out of funds like Kareshi Kanojo No Jijou. Tbh though, if you don't mind waiting each week for manga, then by all means go for it. I'm sure it's as good as they say it is.
