THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER.
----------------------------------------
Madoka did it at the third, Kazumi waited until the fourth.

Oriko didn't even wait a couple of chapters to send things down the shithole. That is, if the first chapter didn't do that to you.

Guess Yuma won't be the next (well, previous) Madoka. But it sure is going to be interesting from now on. She's a healer, and a cat girl, apparently. Can I call her NYuma?

Kyubey was always scary. Teamed with Oriko, they're frightening. I'm gonna be honest and say I might be more afraid of Oriko than Kyubey, she looks even more capable of manipulating people.
I wouldn't be surprised if any would-be villain would check their closet before they go to sleep to see if they're there. And the girl at the end, who looks to be Oriko's hitman, is the cherry on top of the cake. Deliciously evil.

Add that to Kyouko getting dismembered, the hitmangirl, and the blood we saw in Chap 1... it's already at peak Madoka dark ambiance, and it's only going to get worse from here now in. I can't wait.

Also, they threw us a bone, the line Kyouko says when she's near death is the same she said while falling down inside Oktavia's barrier.

The only negative point was the battle's length: I felt it was too prolonged.
"Tonight, I sit in the eye of the storm. As fire boils around me, I press forward, winds and lightning lashing my wings. I am no match for what I face. Yet I will not back down, and though fear may place it's stranglehold on my heart, courage will see me through. With tears in my eyes, I hit full throttle. My engines become an inferno, and my weapons light up, awaiting my command.

If I die tonight, I will do so fighting for everything I believe in."

Oriko seems to be very creepy. :/ So far, it's interesting but I'm still not keen on the artwork.

Well that was fast. Don't care for her magical girl design though...all of the spin off manga's designs look so plain or weird compared to the series'.

I'm actually rather fond of it. I don't think it's as plain as you call it, but regardless, it's absurdly cute.

Oriko is full of mystery here. I really like this so far. Of course, Oriko's quite making me fond of her.

What is Oriko planning? And why is Yuma a catgirl-magical girl? Things have definitely gotten interesting.

The art style continues to bug me, as it's so different.

At this stage, i'm guessing Oriko and Yuma don't make it out of this series alive.

Interested to see where this is going...feels like the whole thing is moving at a breakneck pace, but maybe that's just because I'm a rather fast reader and this is my first non-shonen manga, as well as the first time I watched the anime and then moved into a manga and not the other way around. Personally I've got no qualms with the art style as it is a different canon (at least that's what I've gathered from the wiki, but don't quote me on that), but I do see how it can be a bit off-putting. If anything, the heavy stylization works with this so far, as it seems to be spending less time (if any) on a facade, instead matching a tone that the odd proportions can complement as opposed to distract.
