Beck is the first anime I've come across where the Japanese voice acting is actually worse than the English....

Let's see... I prefer the dubs for FMA (except for Envy's voice... *shudders in horror*), Fruits Basket, Full Metal Panic!, Saiyuki (only with the original English cast, though... *hates passionately that they changed the VAs*), Spiral, and D.N. Angel. I'll admit to not watching FB or DNA in Japanese, though... *coughs*

Gantz Really?? I dunno whoever dubbed as Kishimoto kinda sounded bad imo. Ruined her cuteness :\

the only dubbed versions I like are:

Cowboy Bebop
Ghost in The Shell: SAC (1st and 2nd Gig)
Samurai Champloo
The Vision Of Escaflowne

well, FLCL was pretty good as well. not exceptional but pretty decent IMO.

Maybe, but the VA of Kishimoto did a good job in the "Kurono's fantasies" scene. XD

I dunno, I never really found her to have "cuteness" in the sub...

however, Chris Patton as Nishi was probobly one of the best ive herd, I also though Chris Ayres did a great job, as Kurono sounded a lot like my acouple of friends (I was in 10th grade, he acually sounded like he was in 10th grade)

I can't believe nobody's said it yet, but Golden Boy!

That's seriously one of the few dubs that are far superior to the original japanese version.

His and Her Circumstances is the best dub I've seen. I found the Japanese cast rather dull, but the English cast was phenomenal. The only problem with it was that there was a lot of repetition when it came to background characters.

Other dubs I love include:
Azumanga Daioh (great adaption of jokes, I didn't feel I needed the translation notes for the most part)
Kodocha (lose script, but full of energy)
Neon Genesis Evangelion (say what you will, I think both casts rock)
Super Gals! (shame on season 2)
Tenshi ni Narumon!/I'm Gonna be an Angel!
most Ghibli movies (the Disney dubs)

oh, these little earthquakes

Hmm... Well, I have to say that one of my favorite dubs was Wolf's Rain, It think that the voice actors did simply wonderful in this dub, especially Crispin Freeman. He totally rocked as Tsume. Another one of my favorite dubs is Nerima Daikon Brothers, this dub rocked... literally. And Chris Patton was simply perfect for the role of Ichiro. Heh, I've met Chris personally and he gave me a live performance of the panda songs; he sounds just as great in person!
xD

Others I liked:

- Fullmetal Alchemist
- InuYasha
- Samurai 7

Eh... I'm probably missing a few, but yeah...

Somethings just feel right dubed. Cowboy Bebop and Big O are the only two that come to mind right away.

Big O's dub is many times over more entertaining than the original voice acting. English just seems to fit the atmosphere better. And then you have characters like Schwartzwald who in the sub are just minor characters who are decently cool, but in the dub they he takes on a life of his own.

If more dubs were like that where instead of just speaking the words written on the page the actors actually acted and tried to fit the mood of the piece they were performing in, we wouldn't need to be so xenophobic about dubs.

the golden boy dub was so bad and over the top that you cant help but love it.

there are two types of good dubs IMO

those that are actually good, and those that are so insainly horrible that it makes you laugh so hard that you love it.

DB / DBZ and DBGT are only ones I've watched dubbed. I checked FMA, naruto, one piece, bleach, Fruits Basket, Rurouni Kenshin and berserk dubs, but I couldn't stand them :< I don't like english anyway.

Wow ... Now that I think of it, I've hardly watched any anime dubbed. O_o I can only think of a few series I've watched in english. I think the Fruits Basket dub was better than the original Japanese. I watched it in English first and later went back and tried to watch it in Japanese but couldn't get past the first episode.

I've never watched both the dubbed and the subbed versions of anime before, so I really can't compare that well.

However I had no problems with Inu Yasha, Full Metal Alchemist, Gundam Seed, Witch Hunter Robin, and other such dubs. Though I did watch most of them before I'd even seen a subbed anime. I found Gundam Seed and Destiny (Which I watched subbed) were on equal terms. But destiny would have been on a disadvantage...

In either case, I think Full Metal Alchemist was well dubbed, the voice acting fit the feeling at least xD

For me the best English dub that I've seen is FLCL. I can't think of any English dubs that are superior to the Japanese originals at all. I however think that the German dubbed Sailormoon (songs as well as voice acting) is equal if not better than the original ;)

It's not english but the French dub of Porco Rosso is so much better than the Japanese track. Not onlly does it fit more in with the plot, but ity has Jean Reno has the title character.

The English dub of Big O is pretty clearly superior to the Japanese one. The actors are better and fit the characters more. Some of the characters who seem boring in the Japanese version, like Scharzwald, are great with their American VAs.

Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, and Wolf's Rain. All three have AMAZING dubs, even better than the subs. Good shit. <3

Oh, and I agree about Big O's dub being superior to the sub. IMO, it's one of Blum's best roles ever, same for Crispin. Crispin, though, I think I love his work in Big O because it's a role you don't get to hear NEARLY often enough from him. If I remember right, the only other mildly crazy role he got was Straight Cougar, and I think we can all agree that not only was s-CRY-ed a meh anime, the dub was... less than admirable, though entertainingly so.

Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Haruhi Suzumiya, GTO, FullMetal Alchemist, and Super GALS are among my favorites. I have the biggest crush on Steven Jay Blum, so anything he does is somewhere in that favorite's list as well. *dreamy sigh*

Ranma 1/2, up to season 3, also holds a place close to my heart. Then they changed Ranma's male voice, and it was never the same again. Now in the later seasons, he's just Inu-Yasha. It's depressing.

Well, I normally don't watch dubs. I don't care if they're good or bad, I just want to watch anime with subs or RAW. But I guess the FMA dub was pretty good from what the few eps I've seen of it.

These are the best English dubs. There are other great English dubs anime but I found these were the best:

Full metal Alchemist
Sailor Moon (minus the thrid and fourth seasons Sailor Moon voice)
The Ocean's Dragon Ball (Z and GT) dub
Samurai X: Reflections
Fushigi Yûgi

I saw some of the French dub for Fruits Baskets and I thought it was really good. It does annoy me how people bash English dubs and acts as if they are blasphemous. Obviously, English can't sound exactly like Japanese because they are two different languages and sounds but English produces try their best to match the voices. There are some horrible English dubs but there are horrible Japanese dubs too.

EDIT: Forgot Hellsing, I haven't seen much of the series but the acting was good and the voices were realistic.

Considering I watch very few, if any, dubbed I'm limited in my selection.

I'd have to say its Cowboy Bebop hands down. Out of all the anime I've seen dubbed this has to be, by far, the best English dub to date. There are other good ones out there but none of them have really met the quality of the Cowboy Bebop dub.

I watch about 25% of my animes in English dub some because they are just good and some because it makes it funnier. I do prefer the Japanese dialogue most the time. Some really good dubs in my opinion are

Rune Soldier
Howl's Moving Castle
Hellsing
Trigun

hmmm...i dunno. For me i cant watch a dub if i have seen the original first, it just feels and sounds sooo very wrong. So i guess the only only one that i saw first in english was sailor moon (god....that was sooo long ago..i must have been in gr.4) so that for me is the best dub.

cowboy bebop was really well done. I actually like the dub better, even. or maybe it's just cuz I watched that before I watched the sub..
I think it's because of the setting. the whole style of the anime is very.. western. none of it is particularly japanese, so there are no weird ideas to translate and everything flows very well.

that really is the key I think - the style has to be just right or else the whole tone of the anime becomes botched and ridiculous.
