So I love watch anime, but I kinda want to read manga as well. Now, my question is;

Is it worth reading the manga AFTER watching the anime?
Or should I simply find new series that I haven't watched anime of yet?

Thanks in advance folks ;)

Since an overwhelming amount of anime don't actually come to a close and just "stop" while the adapted manga is still ongoing, it's definitely worth reading the manga after that to see how the series actually goes on and finishes.

Yeah it's worth reading. The manga usually contains more material that wasn't covered in the anime. Finding new series is good too since there are many great series that haven't been made into anime.

Absolutely yes. For example, you seem to enjoy Rosario+Vampire, and I can tell you that the manga is definitely superior to the anime. I think you'll enjoy it a lot.

Yesyesyes. In fact I rarely watch anime that has manga adaptations now because the manga almost always has a longer lifespan.

I read the manga after I watch the anime only if the anime's really good, interesting, etc etc that would make me want to read the manga

I do this only when the anime stops and the manga continues like Eyeshield 21, Tsubasa Chronicles etc. Just started reading One Outs after finishing the anime too...but say an anime like Prince of Tennis, I know a few things are different from the manga version vs the anime version. But they just are so close that I really don't feel the need to read the manga and the manga was adapted from beginning to end. Usually I just research the differences between the anime and manga, if I find them miniscule then I don't bother...

The only manga that had an anime based on it that I watched was Rosario + Vampire, which started out good, then started going downhill at the start of Capu2. Volume 4 was when I decided "F**K this, the anime is better". Yet, people consider the manga superior (which I don't get why).

So, I can't say for sure. You might like the manga, or you might think the anime is better.

I believe ultimately; it's all dependent upon the series.
A good amount of the time an anime is not so faithful to the manga, which in that case I would watch the anime first.
If the story is faithful to the manga then by all means the manga, in my opinion, is best read first.

Then again, each reader has their preferences.

If you really liked the anime, you totally should read the manga. Almost always that is better anyway. :)

A lot of the time, yes. I was terribly disappointed by the ending of the Skip Beat! anime, and was thrilled to see the story continue in the manga.

probably not... unless the manga continues and the anime does not, but you would want to start where it splits O.o unless your cool with being told the same story twice, that's not so bad sometimes

Uhh.. That depends for me. If the anime already covered the whole series then you don't have to waste your time reading the manga anymore because the truth is the anime is longer (because of fillers) and that's it. But if the anime is finished but the story isn't then go ahead and read the manga. Or just continue from where the anime left off. But sometimes anime changes things so I suggest.. Just do both! Haha.

Yes, it's often good to switch to the manga of an anime you liked(and it probably finished or is airing slow for you)...

I think you should read the manga if you really liked the anime, since it would be easier to get into a storyline that you were already familiar with than starting a new series.

Happens only if the anime ends too early and so i start reading the manga to get another view of the story which is usually worth it since the story continues on and you have something to look forward too every single week unless the series is already completed.

I feel like if the series had a conclusive ending in the anime and you were happy with it, there's usually not much need for me to go over to the manga even if it continues on. The exception being episodic stuff like Mushishi, in which case I only read what wasn't animated.

So, I try to pick either the anime or the manga from the start, usually whichever one is better received, and only read/watch the other one if they're both significantly different. I *usually* prefer whichever one came first, though there are a few exceptions to that rule (I liked first FMA much more than the manga, but since they were quite different, I did experience both). And then, if I'm happy with the manga, I don't usually see much point on checking out the manga, not when I have other stuff I could be reading/watching, right?

It's really up to each person individually, I would take a favorite series, one with a full adaptations, one with a partial, and try the manga for each, see if perhaps it's only worth it to you to read the manga for something with a partial anime in the future.

I tend to read the manga before the anime, I find it tiresome and repetitive doing it the other way round.

Yes! Especially if the manga continues and the anime doesn't. Sometimes the manga is a lot different too, so I would say that If you really like a series read/watch both.

Yes, definitely worth it. Anime mostly have less story and details than manga. And I'm crazy about characters and story xD Even more, when somebody tolds me about good manga, I may watch anime first and only after that start to read it. That helps to get basic understanding beyond mostly silly synopsis.

I definitely think it's worth it, atleast if you liked the anime. I'm more of a manga-person, I'd much rather just go and read manga instead of watching anime. I find most mangas much better and more detailed than the anime adaptions, so yeah!

Well, if you want to see the original and you want, read the manga. Much of the times I do this. I did it with mirai nikki.

Only if the anime is good. Not going to bother with manga if the anime doesn't show any promise whatsoever about the manga version. The differences are often vastly exaggerated.

Guilty as charged.
Even though I advised others to always read first, I usually watch an episode before picking up the manga to read. There is always a short or a drastic difference in the information. You can't always do everything within budget. *shrugs*
The bonds within stories are unbound, unexpected, unspoken.
Only the characters themselves can see the truth of their feelings.
No matter what others would deem incompatible or not.

My opinion is, that there is no universal answer. It depends.

First, try to determine what the origin is. Not always the source is a manga, sometimes its a novel, sometimes a game, this means adaptation, meaning changes. Sometimes the adaptation is fine, sometimes its not.

If the anime is bad, that doesn't mean the manga is bad as well. There are countless examples of vastly superior manga compared to their anime (mis)adaptation.

It is rare, but sometimes you can even find the adaptation is better.

Usually, manga/novel/game have more freedom, or are not scared to go beyond the usual, or don't have a "committee" ruining everything in the name of ratings or "target audience".

I could start naming examples but it might be inappropriate. Do not misjudge things, get a second opinion. Ie: Anime sucks? Read the manga, you might, and will often be surprised.

Disillusioned with common studio practices, some people abandon anime completely to read manga only, but that is not fair either. Sure, there is a lot of junk, but sometimes there are jewels out there.

I like to read the manga after I watch the anime, because then I have a voice for all the characters. The manga can also be different than the anime, or even continue where the anime ends.

I read manga of things that had filler endings/didn't follow the manga in the end(Which is what most of my manga that I'm reading consists of).

If the ending made you happy(Tasogare Otome x Amnesia) then you shouldn't jump to the manga straight away if you could be watching something else. The ending made you pissed/unsatisfactory(Gantz) then jump to the manga ASAP.

All up to you bro.

Hmmm I like to find manga that hasn't been adapted into series. it feels really fresh. Also even if a anime series ends and the manga continues it Eg Kodomo no Jikan, I won't read the manga just in case there was another season. :P

Definitly worth reading after the anime the manga has a lot of things that could not be fit into the anime. Also like previously stated the manga usually goes farther than the anime.

I usually do one or the other instead of reading both.
However, I find it better to read the manga after the anime than watch the anime after the manga.

Definetely! Most of the times Anime and Manga are different!!Manga feels more complete and well explained!of course not always! So if you really liked the Anime definetely try to read the Manga.

On the other hand when i finish a manga which i really liked, i always get bored when i try to see the anime and most of the times i just drop it :/

I'd say yes. I did that with Junjou Romantica and Sekaiichi no Hatsukoi. It's still enjoyable.
I'm currently doing that with Pandora Hearts simply because i want to see how they did compared to the manga. It's a totally different experience. I actually like the art better in the manga than the Anime.
It was a slight change, but noticeable when you start reading.

Yes and no! I read FMA manga after watching the first FMA anime! But I started reading Aria and Aqua before I watched the anime and now plan on watching it!
