I realize this is potentially an oddly specific request, but I'm in the middle of reading the manga Monster and looking to see what other manga titles I should check out that also take place partly in countries like Germany and Czech Republic. Historical fiction definitely welcome, doesn't have to be in the same vein as Monster genre-wise.

It's like you don't know which way is east, or you just don't know Europe at all.
There's a Kafka short-story that's been animated some time ago, I don't know how good it is, but it's called "A country doctor".

Most of those don't take place in the parts of Europe I was looking for (Eastern Europe is countries like Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, etc.), but thank you for the recs anyway.

Spice and Wolf takes place in a pseudo euopean setting, with strong influences of late medeaval Germany and it's guild system, religion and pagan culture.

Seikon no Qwaser is a story about breast sucking, flavored with Russian Orthodox culture. [just noticed you're already reading it]

And if you're into non-manga fantasy, you could check out Sapkowski's The Witcher saga which is dark fantasy based on Polish/European culture.

Maybe these are too much fantasy and less historical.

Actually Germany, Czech Rep, Slovakia and Poland are considered rather as central europe ( Poland has geographical center of europe aswell as I remember ), while Russia is eastern europe, arguably along with Romania ( even if looking timezone wise ).

I'm surprised nobody has yet mentioned Fullmetal Alchemist. It's enough to make me think I'm misremembering, but I was fairly certain it was set in something that suspiciously resembled fantasy-Germany. I know the movie included Nazis and Hitler.

And then, of course, there's Axis Powers Hetalia, in which Germany is, himself, a character ^.~

Eastern Europe are more the Balkans (though, they're officially Souteastern Europe) and Central Europe is Poland and Germany with France. Denmark, Holland and above are Northern Europe.

And no, I don't know any anime except for Monster... :S

Master Keaton. Well, I guess MK takes place all over the world (it's episodic so it's a case by case basis), but I recall Europe as being the dominant location.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes takes place in Space Europe/Germany though! There's also Space America and Space Switzerland (or some other neutral country) too! Yes, it's all space, but the places are almost certainly supposed to be representations of said places.

Gallia, so more close to France, but at least the Imperials have a clear Gothic/HRE feel to them.

Anyways, there's also this manga about Napoleon form the author of Rose of Versailles, which does supposedly include his fatal Russian campaign. Sadly, it doesn't seem to exist scanlated, much less translated, anywhere. But hey, the more people that cry for it, the bigger chance someone might pick it up.

Jormungand jumps around a lot, but it did take a tour into eastern Europe somewhere, probably the Balkans, though I don't think they actually named the country in question.
