No, not at all. One of my friends' mom happens to love anime as much as her, and I'm friends with her mom and we talk about all the time.

My bro for example is almost 27 and he enjoys watching anime with me .-.
Even my mum has watched some episodes with me and she's over 50 xD

Nope its not weird I'm over 25 and have read manga and enjoyed watching anime since I was 10 or 11 yrs old its one of my hobbies. My kids even get into it with me depending on what I'm watching of course (no hentai). I don't watch it everyday but I do catch up on some series I may have missed when I'm not working. I have my own business and I'm still taking college courses so I have some free time.

Anime doesn't really compare to european/american 'cartoons'. So people who assume you still watch cartoons and are unaware of anime culture are obviously going to be a little confused.

I'm 20 at the moment and am quite happily enjoying anime. I see that is no doubt going to continue for a long part of my life because I enjoy it so much. No need to tailor my fun to other people, eh?

So, in answer of the question (which I forgot when I was writing that) no, I don't think it would be weird.

I feel you are right about japanese vs. american/european cartoons. Japanese cartoons seem to have more depth in my opinion. Being 20 is still a young age though. Your mind and ideals are completely different at that age than when you become 25 (the time when you get out of college/university, looking for a job, maybe marriage, etc.). Leisure time becomes scarce.

Would you still be able to hold interest in anime at this point? I'd say at the minimum, your interests in anime will be diminished when you are 5+ years older than you are now.

"Depends" - If the person still have an normal life and a good social state I wouldn't mind the person watching an anime/ reading manga.

More because at that age it would seem they've "Grown-up" (Not that Anime/manga is for kids - But let just say some people are.. Fanatics.. Which might be hypocritical to state but it's the beauty of what anime/manga can spit out that movies can't that makes it good - in my opinion) to have given some more colors to the painting rather than just one tiny thing.

No I don't think it's weird. It just appears weird because people with zero knowledge on the subject consider anime the same as "cartoons".

Well as an adult you'd naturally have to have a life, but watching anime in your free time isn't exactly wrong. I think that everyone should be free to watch whatever they want regardless of their age. Anime usually have interesting plots so they're directed at older people too. :U

imo watching/reading anime and manga is like reading books. an adult person may not like all genres but there are many anime which are appeal to them. we are reading fantastic novels right? watching anime is the same thing for me, both are entertaining

It's just another form of entertainment, so why should age play a factor? Sure there might be certain anime out there which you might think it weird for someone of that age to watch, if it isn't aimed at their certain demographic.

Alot of people would probably find it weird because in most cases it has been conditioned into people to think of anime as childish, or not something someone over a certain age should watch. But then there is anime which surely you would not want a child to watch due to the content it contains.

Its like saying, ok i'm 25 today and even though i enjoy music, i'm now too old to listen to it.

So to answer your question, no i wouldn't find it weird.

Depends on why you watch anime, I think. If you're getting on in years and you get off on watching cute young girls in school uniforms, yah that's kinda creepy. But I like anime with good story lines, not moe factor. The shows I like best combine action and horror with drama and philosophy, or they're just fun but actually funny. If there were Hollywood movies that were as good, I would watch them. But nothing that Hollywood puts out is near as good as the story in Elfen Lied or Gunslinger Girl, or nearly as funny as Cowboy Bebop or Azumanga Daioh. A Hollywood live-action version of Akira or Paprika would certainly be abysmal. There is more to anime than ecchi cuteness, unfortunately a lot of people don't understand that.

There are two types of anime - almost as good as Elfen Lied, and not as good as Elfen Lied.

Great response.

Granted I like cute anime (nothing will put a smile on my face faster than a Chi's Sweet Home episode) but there is anime out there with just wonderful, profound stories, gorgeous art, brilliant voice acting, and amazing music.

I don't know how I'll feel in 20 years but I think I may still love anime when I'm 46 as compared to 26.

I could see myself watching Spirited Away with my grandchildren someday, and still finding it a magical experience.

It all depends on the anime.

Twenty years from now, you'll have twenty more years of life experiences and learning, and you'll be able to appreciate a lot of things you overlooked when you were younger. I sometimes see stuff I watched years ago, and realize how much of it I missed or didn't understand. So good things get even better.

I've a good friend on another forum site who's 45 and still loves anime. I don't think it's uncommon either, the majority of us who're passionate about it now will probably still be watching it when we're 25+.
I'm 21 and I love anime as much now as I did when I was first introduced to it years ago :]

In addition to that anime has better looking characters lol

Has anyone even been to a con? Half those guys/gals are over 30. The first anime club I was in when I was 16 was run by a 34-year-old, and now I myself am 26. Older otaku are more common than you think. As long as good series keep coming out, I don't see any reason to stop watching, same as with films or comic books, my interests won't just change when because I am a certain age.

... t-twenty five is old now?

I'll be twenty three this year and I have no desire to stop watching anime, nor is there any sign that I'm getting tired of it. The posters/plushies/figurines decorating my dorm room (aka my Otaku Cave) agree with me.

Tastes change with age and other factors.
It'd be odd to some, not to me,
but me too, I don't understand why certain anime got popular among the teens around 20s or younger.

Anime & rl films, TV series etc have no differences in terms of possible content but rather the artwork/graphics/visual style is different therefore if your preference is the style of anime then honestly theres nothing different than anyone else who dislike anime but likes tv shows or films.

I will live on no matter what... so I can meet you once again.

Why would there be anything wrong with that?(Well aside from a unhealthy obsession)
I am 31 and I work nightshifts, what better way to make the night fly by than a few episodes of whatever i am watching atm.

Got friends older than me who watch anime aswell.

I work full time, got kids, wife etc, so for me anime is a way of relaxing and winding down:-)
I think many worry to much about what people think.

I wouldn't find it weird~ Had it not been for my high school's german teacher's love for anime,we would've not had an anime club! Plus a lot of people in my family watch anime. None, except my brother, are into really new series but they enjoy older animes.

Plus, when you go to an anime convention you see lots of people 25 and older there cosplaying and talking about the newest thing. So it's pretty cool in my opinion :D

I´m almost 38 and plan on watching animes till I die. Well, provided that the industry doesn´t go downhill and subjects itself to commercial mainstream, which I doubt. (Good) Anime is art and/or fun, and what is wrong with enjoying it regardless of age?

The question itself is almost insulting on two levels:

a) it implies that people 25+ suddenly turn into stereotypical grown-ups and start to disregard things which they loved in their youth - some actually do that, but I never understood them.

b) it implies that anime is produced only for kids and teenagers, which is absolutely wrong.

Question may also mean that there are people who don't fully understand what they're seeing. I watched Hetalia Axis Powers in a room full of kids who had no idea what the stories were actually about. I like world history, so I understood a lot of the jokes and references that went right past them. Same with Elfen Lied, look at all the posts that talk about the nudity and violence and don't even mention the story line. Not saying kids can't understand anime, just that different people can get different things out of the same show. And if you're enjoying it, no matter what age you are, good for you.

There are two types of anime - almost as good as Elfen Lied, and not as good as Elfen Lied.

No, it's not weird. In fact, when I visit an anime convention, about 60% of the visitors are over 20, 25% 25 up and 25% minors. So no, it's not really weird, just unusual.

There'll always be unhealthy obsessions to anime, but that applies to any age. As for me, the more I grow older the more I get interested into anime. I got no plan on stopping even when I'm past 25.

i.e is it strange for a 30 year old to read a book aimed at teenagers?

I don't find it strange.

Well, that just is a prejudice that even exists INSIDE the world of anime fandom.

I've seen almost 250 shows and I didn't watch a single one of the because of cuteness. (Okay, one, and that was when I was 14 or so).

I'm not 25 yet, but I do see myself still enjoying anime when I'm 25. Probably a little less intensive, but still.
I probably regret this post by now.

Cartoons and their episodic style are not necessarily bad. Shows like Family Guy and Futurama are among my favourites, and I can laugh my ass off to an occasional Sponge Bob.
