Shiki waking up to wake up would be Deus Ex Machina but I think Tomoe's presence i.e. his death and bringing the sword is what woke her up despite all the tough girl talk she adds. The sword power up angle makes sense. It's a deadlier weapon and we know its something she's trained with.

The Eyes and Spiral are just the rules of this world. The eyes are connected to this spiral which is the backbone of the world this story. The counterforce is something that exists to protect said spiral. Don't try to think too deeply about what these things are and just accept them. They're akin to natural forces like gravity(something that we still don't quite understand in full). Though I've read in a blog analysis that Tomoe may have been the vehicle in which the counterforce acted hence him being the only one who escaped and screwed up the big bad's plans. It makes sense considering he was trying so hard to avoid it to the point where he was using tech vs magic,.

I'm not exactly sure what the villain wanted something about destruction of death by eliminating life. He explained it but it came off as badly worded philosophy i.e. something simple dressed up to look pretentious.

The non linear thing has been there from the start. After all the first movie already dumps in with the trio already knowing each other and what not while the 2nd one jumps back in time and all about. The presentation of this series has always erred on the side of arthouse. It provides a new spin on the small team of supernatural slayers on a limited budget

Aozaki's little rules about the monsters in horror movies had me laughing. It's the truth people! Never showing the monster makes things really scary! She's by far my favorite character

Question: At an 1:00 and 19 Aozaki says something along the lines of heroes appearing during various eras, etc was this a reference to Fate/Stay night? I've been told that FSN, Tsukihime and Kara all take place within the same universe.

Does anyone know what Araya meant when he said "We finally meet, Ryougi!". He mention how she was holding back and that self-suggestion brought forth power when she held the sword. Does this mean the other Shiki (Masculine) is back?

That's a pretty misleading way of putting it. She has the power to change herself, but the result isn't another personality, although it is a new Shiki in a way. It's still the same consciousness. "We finally meet" shouldn't be taken too literally.

Actually, it is indeed our Shiki who's fighting Araya there. But,

I may have a theory as to why Shiki decided to help Tomoe.

Perhaps she sees him, a false existence, existing.
The same way her brother Shiki resides within herself.

I remember hearing Aozaki mention something about Shiki(female) wanting to honor her brother's existence by acting the way she does.
-It was a conversation in the office between Aozaki and Mikiya.

Although I feel I'm not alone when I say I was confused at parts of the movie, I think it was so...awesome. Luckily, I was able to grasp most of the plot and understand some parts I had not by the end of the movie. The action scenes were sick (loved the bit with Touko) and although I am still confused about some parts of the movie, I think it was a great movie overall. I'll probably watch it again some time to see if I can get a better hold of everything that was going on....hopefully. Anyway, yeah, despite the confusing parts of the movie I loved it and can't wait to watch the next.

I certainly can't describe the feelings I had watching this movie and the experience that came with it, I'm just certain of this: It was the first time ever that I raised the score of a movie/anime by 1 just because of the combination and quality of the animation and soundtrack. 10/10.

Honestly, I had no idea what the hell was going on half the time. Maybe this is why I thought this was the worst KnK movie so far.

Counter force?
Tajit whatever?
Yin and Yang?
What were all those bottles?
Why's that guy part of the building?

O_O . cbf rewatching gonna look for a summary lol

Counter force is a "device" of a kind, which maintains the state of the world. It's purpose is to prevent the end of the world either by removing the threat or empowering the third party opposing the threat. The idea of counter-force was quite possible to grasp from the discussions Touko and Souren had in the movie. That kind of system is also present in some others fantasy settings I've encountered.

Taiji is quite common, I guess most of audience knows the symbol in advance. Yin and Yang partly symbolized the two sides of Shiki, along with several others antithesis present in the movie.

If you mean the "bottles" under the Ogawa Apartment, my lucky guess is that they're used to power up the whole Souren's experiment, or something like that.

Souren is very adapted in the creaton of Bounded Fields, so by utilizing his skills he could create the building exactly to his liking (he could teleport and move within it as freely as he did in the movie).

I myself could grasp nearly everything what was happening and the point of vast majority of discussions between the characters during my second re-watch. Maybe one or two things weren't perfectly clear, but I can't even recall them now. The mages' pursue for the spiral of origin is one of the most thrilling themes I've ever encountered in anime. Also watching this masterpiece after reading some of the Type-moon wiki enchanced my experience even further.

Oh, how much would I've given for the apparatus erasing my memory of the previous 2 hours. I'd use it every time after watching Paradox Spiral and experence that thrilling piece of art every day. I don't believe I'd ever get tired of this movie anyways, given the sensible periods of time between re-watches.

Great episode! Definitively my favorite. Only one question... Not really important but since it's been a while since I last watched it I can't remember if there's an answer at all.
What was Azaka showing Kokuto when Touko scolded her? (Saying that she shouldn't show her sorcery to other people and all that)

Well I finally got round to watching this.

First thing I'd noticed was how this movie was noticeable longer than the previous ones. That said, I don't remember ever feeling bored; one big plus for this series is that no matter how cryptic and confusing it is at times, it keeps the viewer entertained. There was something about this movie that evoked my memories of Fate/stay night and Tsukihime (visual novels), possibly because the main villain reminded me greatly of Kotomine Kirei with a hint of that necro-vampire from Tsukihime (forgot his name). Not to mention how Enjou's physical appearance is almost identical to that of Emiya Shirou. Apart from that, I could feel that same atmosphere I felt while playing those visual novels: a highly fantastical setting with overstreched motives behind every character that still somehow feels vivid, important and makes you want to dive in it headfirst. Another huge plus.
What prevented me from classifying it as anything more than "good" was that it felt like this was more aimed towards the audience who has previously read the novels. A lot of stuff felt confusing and for someone not ready to rewind the movie after every other sentence or at least reread the synopsis of the previous movies and character's backgrounds, it gets overwhelming.

Nice and all, just too much rewinding and fast forwarding. And the time used for development of one-movie-only character(Tomoe) was kinda pointless IMO.(atleast I think he is only in this one.)

Wow... just wow. I have never seen that much bullshit in a single movie since End of Evangelion. I think I'm overrating this series, 3/10 is just to much for this pointless borefest. The animation and sound track saved this from being an unwatchable movie. The worst of the first 5 movies. I just can't see why it's rated higher than the others.

So anyone care to tell me what the hell just happened in this movie? Why the hell do they try to make things complicated.

Uhm.. to keep it long enough to bore you? :)

I also think that it is a bit too long for not that complex storyt but that does not mean I did not enjoy it. The rewinds/fast forwards just made me go rewind it again to get the point..

Btw, anyone already mentioned the similarity of the characters from each movie to the ones in other Type-moon series? Not to mention the names?

The midpart of the movie with all these rewinds etc. really was a bit overdone, but for me its the best one of the movies. Still, I had a rewatch few days ago, because I understood shit after the first go :S

After re-watching KnK in the chronological order (with some knowledge on what was going on and knowing the characters) I have to say:

One of the most intense things I have ever seen.

The beginning of the movie is gripping, the middle is complicated, the ending is mind-blowing. When things start to get pretty intense you understand what was the meaning of those re-winds and mixed past and present scenes (took me a second watch). Just watch the re-awakening of Shiki in the apartment complex. All ends up making sense (I do agree the movie in not exactly easy to watch, especially if you are going for just some entertainment, the story IS complicated)

10/10 for a near-perfect movie whose masterful animation and unforgettable soundtrack make this one of the most memorable experiences in anime.

I think Im gonna skip the 6th one and jump to the 7th movie!

This was seriously amazing.

The first thing that crossed my mind when I watched the first movie back in September was: "What a bunch of nonsense put together... Heck, this must be the most overrated thing I've seen." But the concept still intrigued me and the gorgeous animation and godly soundtrack were enough for me to decide I'd watch the following ones. I wasn't all that interested in that though... Then, as explanations started being given, I enjoyed each movie better than the last one and after this amazing masterpiece, you can say I'm a fan.

This installment was the best on the series so far. I absolutely love non-linear storytelling and they executed amazingly well here. The fighting scenes were amazing as always with that stunning combination of animation and background music that manages to impress me in every KnK movie. The plot was also pretty good and consistent, even if quite puzzled and a bit hard to grasp at times. But I was surprised at how good the explanations for the many new concepts introduced (at least "new" to me) were. The only thing I didn't completely understand was how sending Fujino and that girl from the first movie benefited Araya's plan. He said they were "sacrifices" prepared to Shiki. What did he intend to achieve with that? Perhaps test her? Maybe I'll get answers in one of the next installments though. Apart from that, I'm satisfied with all the plot explanations. First 10/10 I award to a KnK movie.
