Elsie and the firetrucks, wow...
Gahh Shiori really reminds me of myself, really hard to talk to anyone and always thinks too much. I really like her.

@Yumekichi11 about Kanon's appearance.
if you notice those image screens (intermission screens), usually they are followed with advertisements, and quick ones that is compared to the 2-3 minute long ones in america. so the anime sneaked 1 in there just to have kanon have more screentime so we dont forget about her (since her character doesnt reappear that easily due to work, and its simple to get her into an advertisement)
possibly mio and ayumi will get something of the sort later on as well.

also, shiori will talk more in future episodes, its just that its in her head and we can hear it (just like in galge and not in real). keima is pretty much using his intuition and experience from previous games to figure out what shes thinking

Nice episode... This episode become one of my top three episode so far… ^.^
I'm not really a huge fan of Shiori and her arc before, but this episode makes me like her and her arc more, ^.^ though, I find that her monologue about books is boring...
I like how the anime shows the dot-dot-dot bubble to express her monologue... ^.^

Lol at the crowd both for the black ship and fire truck...

And
"I can hear her thought whenever I want”
“See?”
“Uhm, this only works in games…”
"Then this conquest is impossible"

Is win <333
Lol

For the CM, I think it is better than the manga... Kanon-pfp and ka-mi-no-mi... <333, lol...

I would never expect that voice actor for the Chief librarian will be Nonaka Ai... I imagined her voice will not as soft as that...

The version Koi no Shirushi for this episode sounds weird to me...
I can hardly believe it is Kanon's voice...
Why would Toyama Noa use that kind of voice for the song?
Doesn't really seem like Kanon's normal voice... >.>

Actually, there is also the CM part on the manga. The different is, they advertising the volume 1's manga, and there is no Kanon....

It was an ok episode. Not too much happened here, but for a shy person like Shiori a slow pacing is required.
She's just like Keima except that her love is books and not games.
Shiori is lovely, a plus that the seiyuu is among my favorites and like a friend of mine would say: FIRETRUCKS MAKE MANKIND'S EVOLUTION!

Now I wonder if this arc is the season finale or if they will keep going ?

I liked this episode much more than the past few. Maybe it's easier to emphasize with Shiori, or maybe it just didn't feel as filler-ful as the last arc did, but I'm really looking forward to the rest of the episodes. Like someone said earlier, it almost seems like it was done by a different group than the last arc.

Splendid! Spectacular! Fabulous!
Without a doubt, this is the praiseworthiest episode so far!
I applaud the quietness of it; the atmosphere couldn't have been better here.
This series has showed me its strongest point.
Shiori is a wonderful character!

Other than that, my this new one's really obsessed with books. Well, at least she doesn't seem as annoying as Kanon. Should be pretty good, I hope.

Ok I don't usually post on these forums but I feel the need to share how crappy this episode was.

That library assistant girl is incredibly annoying. She makes me want to bash my head on the computer desk. And, wtf, read all the books in the library? Give me a break, that's physically impossible. And her book monologue went on forever I was just about to stop watching and drop the series.

Anyway, I really hope the next episode is the last she is in. I can't stand her.
Overall, this show is all right, but I think I would avoid any second season if they make one. I like anime with actual plot.

first people complained about all the character songs in kanon's arc. other people enjoyed it.
now people complain about monologues that last as long as the songs. other people enjoyed it.
its a neverending cycle really.

and to be fair, the plot should start in season2 when a certain character explains the backstory of this, and much more if there is a season3.

typically in multi-season anime series, the first few episodes/arcs are introductory for you to get the hang of how the series would be like, expanding character introductions, etc. afterwards the story is explained. it was the reason why very early when this show started a lot of us hoped for the first few captures to only be 2 episodes long each (to move on through the story in the manga's pacing), but instead they extended it to give each character more of a development and screentime for better methods of merchandise (character songs, posters, etc). it can be viewed as a good thing or a bad thing, it just depends on how you look at it

You have not obviously heard of fast readers. They can read quickly pages and comprehend them fast. I know so because the proof was shown that Shiori can express lots of pages of her thoughts yet not voice them out. Amazing discovery part about her because lots of geniuses are like that IRL.

As a fast reader myself i tell you that is still impossible. That library is big and has thousands of books and she's how old? 15-16? And keep in mind that no matter how much she likes living every minute with a book in her hands she can't be reading 24/7, there are things she has to do.
It can't be done.

The "Books are X" did start to get a little excessive in my opinion, although it was strangely interesting to listen to her get more and more enthusiastic as time dragged on xD Is it wrong that I thought she was about to climax if she kept going? >>;

I liked this one. Shiori was adorable, so even if her inner monologues went on forever for quite a bit, I was willing to forgive it.

And I love that library. I've never had a library--school or public--that was that big. Ours are all rather modest. T_T (*Is jealous*)

I felt like this ep was lacking a certain amount of awesome, but I enjoyed it, nevertheless. :)

So does the continuous lack of plot mean this is going to be more than a 12 episode series? I'm not sure if I can handle it. This show is just honestly getting more boring every episode, and the fact that a bookworm who talks to herself 90% of this whole episode doesn't help it one bit. God I hope she turns out to be some kind of yandere or something so we get to see something exciting for a change.

People say it's great and it mysteriously has a high rating so I want to stick around and see what the fuss is all about, but I'm just not seeing it. It has a few nice spats of humor here and there, but that's about it. This is an anime adaptation gone wrong.

Uhh that's all I think. Unlike Kanon's manifestation of loose soul, Shiori got such a blessing ability, I guess xDD. Kanon became transparent while Shiori can memorize books in one glance o.o. how cool is that? xDD ..well being transparent is good once in a while -smirks- xDD

The other girls in the future have interesting manifestations of loose soul too but there wasn't really a concrete explanation on what a loose soul do to a certain girl xDD

Based on my observation: Kanon wanted to be recognized <--so the negative manifestation of loose soul will be transparency: no one will be able to recognize her and that will increase the gap on her heart which is the objective of the soul to be revived.

^ Loose souls have nothing to do with that attention whore & the rest of the girls FOR NOW. Fact is even after they were expelled outta those girls, they still pretty much retain their character archetype role: Clumsy runner girl keeps hitting her head on the wall for being too dumb to brake, tsundere princess keeps being tsundere, attention whore keeps begging for attention, etc...

Therefore, stop blaming everything on those poor souls pl0x. Some girls are just that annoying & deserve a good bitchslap as a wake-up call. PERIOD/

its usually either bandwagoning or manga readers, honestly.
also consider some people may like this sort of thing. each person has their own tastes in anime, cant expect everyone to be the same

like i said in my previous post, there will be a backstory and plot after a certain character appears to explain it. these first few captures are for introduction purposes. dont wanna type all that out again, so thats the condensed version.

Hah, I guess you have misunderstood here sir. I wasn't saying that it is because of the loose soul. Let's just say the loosed soul was taking advantage to their hosts (i.e. parasitism) They are feeding on the negativity on what the girl has like in Kanon's case <--attention whore, the loosed soul feeds on that negative character which made Kanon completely invisible forever and which a loosed soul will be revived if Keima did not get action beforehand. xDD

Just think of it this way: If Kanon wasn't an attention whore(her gap in the heart), there's no reason for a loosed soul to enter in her. ^^

That's Kanon's case. But what about Shiori? Because....

The soul does not grant her the ability to memorize things fast, she's supposed to be the generic anime bookworm character who is FUKKEN shy to the point that makes you wanna grab her by the collar and make her spill what she wanna say instead of those "uh uh uh" & "ah ah ah"; and you know that kinda generic bookworm tends to be a know-it-all according to anime's rulez of thumb so I wouldn't be so surprised if she happened to read all the damn books in the library because ANIME IS NOT REALZ PEOPLE, it's the place where a delicate girl can smash walls with her head, read >9000 books/ day, beat up legions of burly men with a single kick, eat >9000 ramen bowls w/o getting fat, etc... So don't even bother to apply common senses to those characters like a certain genius who tried to do that earlier.

You know you should turn your brain off when the first girl you saw can speed like a rocket, smashed the wall with her head and got out of it intact. Unbelievable rite? Then why should you be surprised if another anime girl can read the entire library and then assume it to be the soul's doing?

Another issue I saw is that some folks keep blaming the souls for making a character annoying, like Kanon's case where they claimed that the reason she was being a bitch to Keima and constantly zapped him is because of the "loose soul's influence", which is NOT TRUE because that's how her character is supposed to be. That has nothing to do with souls, astral beings or Laputa (no pun intended). It's true that her invisibility is the soul's doing but it's NOT responsible for her attention whoring personality. Just my 2 Zimbabwean $ anyway...

@BitchMaster:
yea, he's right. the loose soul is making shiori unable to voice her opinions, not that she is a bookworm. that is just of her character design.
remember that even though keima's basing the reals off of games, this series is not the real either, so these specific character designs, plots, and coincidences are to be expected and predicted.

and i somewhat agree about the last thing you said about blaming the loose souls. for anon, i take it that kanon's main problem in life is that she has a fear of being forgotten, so she tries to appeal a lot. the loose soul takes that fear and makes the appealing more excessive, but its true that she was initially like this for this to happen. the thing with the capture is that keima solves their problem in order to release the loose soul (otherwise, filling up with love). so this 'attention whoring' thing is like a phase. (keima tells her that she doesnt need to be all attention whoring because she is already fulfilling her dream, and then she realizes this and her fear is gone and she doesnt need to be 'too much of' an attention whore)
its still part of her, but its not longer excessive is what im saying
