The official website of the Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha Exceeds: Gun Blaze Vengeance television anime revealed the main cast, a second teaser promo, and second key visual (pictured) on Saturday. The new anime series is scheduled to premiere in July 2026.

Takayuki Hamana (Majo to Yajuu) is directing the anime at Seven Arcs. Original creator Masaki Tsuzuki is penning the script. Issei Arakaki (Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha: Detonation) is serving as both the character designer and chief animation director.

Tsuzuki and illustrator Shuuichi Kawakami begin serializing a manga adaptation of the new anime in Suiyoubi no Sirius in April 2025. Kodansha published the first volume in September 2025, with the second volume set to be released on February 9.

Tsuzuki launched the Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha franchise with the 2004 television anime, spinning off his Triangle Heart visual novel. The second and third anime series Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha A's and Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS aired in 2005 and 2007, respectively.

Seven Arcs produced two anime movies compiling the first two anime series in 2010 and 2012. The sequel anime movies, Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha: Reflection and Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha: Detonation, opened in Japan in July 2017 and October 2018, respectively, featuring an original story.

Produced by A-1 Pictures, Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha ViVid, the fourth anime series adapting the sequel manga, aired in Spring 2015. The ViVid Strike! side story anime aired in 12 episodes Fall 2016.

Introduction
Thirty years ago, the sudden appearance of unknown invasive alien lifeforms nearly brought about the end of the world.

Since then, humanity and these creatures, known as Invasion Species, have continued to clash over living territory. Although human safety is barely being maintained, the world remains on the brink of collapse. As the threat of death and destruction lingers, people go about their daily lives by turning away from the constant danger around them. In response, the United Nations establishes EXCEEDS, an organization tasked with investigating and combating threats caused by the Invasion Species.

The story begins in the Far Eastern island nation of Mizuho, where Shiina Kuze, a young hunter who exterminates invasive species, lives on a remote island. Wanting nothing more than a quiet life with her only family—her younger sister, Setsuna—Shiina's routine is disrupted when an unexpected incident occurs, drawing her into a much larger conflict.

There has been no new good anime in the franchise after A's, and I don't think this show's going to change that.

The aesthetic looks like a rip-off of several things which are/were popular in the last decade, there's some strange hollow edginess in the setup as VivavideoUser2x pointed out, then there's lazy ugly 3D shit, and also it's written by the guy who hasn't written anything worthwhile in like twenty years, and directed by the guy who hasn't directed anything worthwhile in ever.
Uh dunno chief, I'm not getting a good vibe from this.

So..... Can the mods finally adding Nanoha Detonation as the prequel of EXCEEDS GBV? This anime is the sequel of that movie and take place in the movie timeline.

Honestly, I'm kinda lost interest on this franchise since Detonation movie and learning the behind the scenes rumors from the insider. The prequel manga to this new anime has been quite mid so far in my opinion (It's funny how none of the prequel manga characters show up in this PV for some reason lol).

@iThink Put the whole thing in the spoiler tag since it's quite long, but basically:

Originally, Reflection was supposed to tell a completely different story than what we got and be done with it rather than being seperated into two parts, done by the different director and staffs from the ones who did Ref+Def and the new anime right now (According to the rumor, it was supposed to be the same people that previously worked on first 3 seasons and the first 2 movies).

However, at point during 2013, the staff team were complaining at the 7Arcs studio not only for creative differences for the movie, but also unfair treatment from the studio as well (As for what kind of treatment, I have no idea). Some of them also complained about the low payment they received despite the success of the first two movies does. After a few months, the higher up at 7Arcs decided to kick them out from the project because they refused to pay them properly and restart the whole thing with entirely different team later on (Hence why Ref movie had "the Movie 3rd" part removed from the title years old). As a result, Keizou Kusakawa (Director of Nanoha series), Yasuhiro Oda (the original character designer of the series) and several animators had resigned from the company around the same year, they've either joined another studio or become freelances since then.

When the project restarted, since Tsuzuki himself couldn't use the original script anymore he had to came up with the different story instead. But then for some reason, Tsuzuki couldn't came out with a new idea so he decided to cancel Force manga to recycle it's premise and ideas for the Ref movie (I think this one is blatantly obvious with the amount of Force references on Ref+Det movies), while also combing some plot points from the PSP games as well (Florian sisters, the materials and Yuri are all first debuted on the games). According to the rumor, Detonation also featured tons of plot points that's supposed to be use on Force before the manga were cancelled (For example, Nanoha flying at space and almost died from explosion were originally planned as climax story in near the end of Force).

Now, I'm sure you're wondering how and why couldn't they just keep the original premise for the movie after they kicked out the original team. The leaker theorized that in reality, Tsuzuki never wrote the story all by himself. He only actually contributed like 45%-50% of the story writing while the rest were handled by the original team that left the studio in 2013. The lack of someone checking and correcting Tsuzuki's scripts might be also likely the reason why Force and most of his post-2013 works has been really bad as well.

I personally believe the rumor is likely real considering Kurogin who was involved in Ref+Det admitted in a interview that the production of those movies didn't start until early 2016 (Despite it was announced on 2013).

Tell me, how the hell is EXCEEDS predates StrikerS? Lol

Even with in-universe context you're still wrong because:

1) EXCEEDS take places two years after Ref+Det
2) It's on alternate timeline (Movieverse) so whatever the hell happened in the main timeline (First 3 seasons+ViVid+Force) is irrelevant to this series and vice versa

@deltahalo241 my guess is, at least seven lost.
I suppose the basic setup could be broadly explained in one or couple infodumps within the show, and since the setting for this particular story seems to be its own thing - don't quote me on that though - you'll only be missing character history, significance for the world, and their relationships.

@MahiaErebeaNegi since we know nanoha in exceed is younger then strikers but older then A's and the order the movies and strikers been released have nothing to do with the time line so since nanoha is younger in exceed then she was in strikers it taking place between A's and strikers

@elior246 You've clearly missed the point I'm trying to make here. Regardless of which year this series is supposed to take place, there's no way in hell this series is take place in-between original A's and StrikerS because this series took place in a alternate timeline where StrikerS and all it's sequels doesn't even exists at all (Or at least similar events haven't happened yet). Not to to mention the entire premise of EXCEEDS has already contradicted what has been already established in both StrikerS manga and anime (Like where the hell did the UN and Exceeds group gone during the events of StrikerS, ViVid and Force if this also happened in the main timeline as well???)
