Hi, I'm PoohTheGun. A man who really likes to rate Anime a lot. First, I want to wish a happy New Year to everyone. Wish everyone to be lucky this year.

This is my first forum ever. I'm not very good at English. So, I want to apologise to you beforehand if my grammar is wrong. But I hope the wall of language can't obstruct my feelings about how I love the anime.

I ranked the top 10 new anime for 6 years on my Facebook. I have been working on this project since 2020. But this is the first year I ranked on MAL. If you are interested in the result from last year. I'll try to translate and repost in the next forum.

First, I want to explain my rule. My list focuses only on new anime. The sequel will not be counted in the ranking. My purpose is to give a chance to newcomers. I think it's unfair to bring in a sequel to compete. From my experience, the sequel always gets an advantage from plotting some data in the sequel, which makes it easier to compete with new anime.

So, let's see my Top 10 New anime in 2025

10. Watashi ga Koibito ni Nareru Wake Nai jan, Muri Muri! (※Muri ja Nakatta!?)

I have to say, this is truly the year that the GL (Girls' Love) genre has made a triumphant comeback, and there’s even more to look forward to next year. Watanare carves out its own unique identity by delivering bold, spicy Yuri scenes that don't hold back. It brilliantly blends Rom-Com Harem tropes with the Yuri genre—a combination that felt almost non-existent until now.

While the plot isn't overly complex, the show excels at letting us get to know each character through various well-paced events. It’s a thrill to watch and keep guessing: in the end, who will 'Renako-chan' actually end up with?

Review Score: 7.5

9.Ruri no Houseki

A high-quality anime that takes us on an exploration of the breathtaking beauty of geology, brought to life by the stunning visual artistry of Studio Bind.

The story unfolds through the eyes of Ruri, who initially sets out simply to find valuable gemstones to sell for profit. However, as she learns more about the history hidden within each stone, she—and the audience—get to peer back millions of years into the Earth's past. The series stands out for its charming character designs, meticulously crafted visuals, and educational insights that feel naturally integrated rather than forced. It’s a truly refined experience.

Review Score: 7.5

8.Sanda

Sanda is an incredibly indie-spirited anime from the creator of Beastars. The story brilliantly reimagines Santa Claus lore as the protagonist's superpower—a concept so inventive it left me wondering, 'How did the author even come up with this?'

Beyond the premise, the series is packed with sharp, extreme social satire. When combined with the unique visual flair of Science SARU (the studio behind Dandadan), the result is a perfect creative chemistry. Watching this anime is a challenging yet rewarding experience in interpretation. I highly recommend that you give it a try at least once; it's truly something else

Review Score: 7.5

7.Mono

From the creator of Yuru Camp, this anime perfectly preserves the charming essence of its predecessor. Even with the change in animation studios, the 'fluffy' and heartwarming vibes of the main characters remain as palpable as ever.

What truly makes this series stand out is the direction; the team constantly introduces fresh, innovative techniques that keep the visuals engaging. In fact, the fluid animation in certain scenes is so well-executed that it rivals top-tier action titles. The story follows a high school Cinephoto Club's desperate yet hilarious search for 'content' to save their club from being disbanded. Thus, a journey filled with chaos and pure fun begins!

Review Score: 7.5

6.Rock wa Lady no Tashinami deshite

If you're looking for a fresh, high-octane take on the music genre, this series is the definitive answer. It’s a story about proving one’s 'rock spirit,' featuring girls who have been confined within the rigid, refined world of an elite lady's academy. To challenge those boundaries, they form a band and rebel against the status quo.

The show’s standout feature is the sheer madness of the performance scenes—when they play, they go wild. Even their verbal sparring is intense and unfiltered, creating a sharp, brilliant contrast to their prestigious school setting. This internal friction and 'contrast' offer a refreshing experience that is absolutely worth watching

Review Score: 8

5. Silent Witch: Chinmoku no Majo no Kakushigoto

One of the standout fantasy anime that has generated the most buzz over the past year. The story follows Monica, the 'Silent Witch,' a girl who is painfully shy and struggles with communication. Destiny leads her through a series of unexpected encounters and challenges that force her to grow.

Throughout the journey, we get to witness her character development alongside a supporting cast that keeps us rooting for her in every episode. Combined with breathtakingly spectacular visuals, the series carves out a powerful and unique identity for itself—living up to the fan-favourite nickname, 'Bocchi the Witch.

Review Score: 8

4.Trillion Game

"Despite being somewhat under the radar, this anime is actually written by the genius behind Eyeshield 21 and Dr. Stone. This time, the focus shifts to the cutthroat world of business, and the quality is just as top-tier as the author's previous hits.

The story centers on the ultimate 'odd couple'—Gaku and Haru. Despite being polar opposites, they team up to launch an innovative startup driven by wildly ambitious and unpredictable schemes. If you love business games filled with tactical mind games and high-stakes maneuvering, this is a must-watch. If you want to know what it takes to become a trillionaire, you should definitely watch this before you go and listen to GaryVee!

Review Score: 8

3.Medalist

It’s hard to believe, but ENGI has finally delivered a masterpiece—and it’s good enough to easily break into this year’s Top 10. The story revolves around figure skating, following Inori, a young girl struggling with self-confidence. Alongside her dedicated coach, they push one another to reach their ultimate goal, creating a journey that keeps you rooting for them every step of the way.

The series brilliantly captures both the raw emotions of the characters and the high-stakes intensity of the competition. The animation quality is superb; even if you’ve never watched figure skating before, you’ll find yourself deeply invested in this story without any effort. It’s a true standout.

Review Score: 8

2.Clevatess: Majuu no Ou to Akago to Shikabane no Yuusha

It's not often that we come across a Dark Fantasy as intense as this. The story follows 'Alicia,' a hero who has been fighting for her life from the very first scene to the bitter end, alongside Clevatess—a demonic beast disguised as a human to observe humanity.

The chaos unfolds through the eyes of a Demon King looking down upon mankind, revealing the raw and gritty nature of the world. This is further elevated by exceptional world-building that feels meticulously designed. To top it all off, the hauntingly beautiful and memorable ending is what truly sent my score for this series skyrocketing. A must-watch for any Dark Fantasy fan.

Review Score: 8.5

1.Chi. Chikyuu no Undou ni Tsuite

Once you finish this series, you will never look at the stars in the night sky the same way again. It takes us back to an era when the world firmly believed that the Earth was the center of the universe—until a group of so-called 'heretics' rose up to challenge that dogma.

This isn't just a story about proving scientific facts; it is a profound philosophical journey filled with beautiful, poetic dialogue in every scene. Ultimately, the series leaves us with a hauntingly powerful realization: 'Whether viewed from the past or the future, we are all just people of the 15th century.'

Review Score: 9

Ruri no Houseki looks good, maybe it flew under the radar?

Sanda is a solid 8/10 in my opinion. The animation, art quality, and style was fairly consistent throughout the season, which I think should give it a big up.

Ruri rocks. Works both as a noun and as a verb.

Sorry for pointing out the obvious, but I'm surprised the OP has a mere 1 post, despite the account being over 4 years old. I'm surprised someone can be that introverted, and spend that much time lurking tbh.....
I have approximately 1 terabyte of anime on my computer.

I've read so many positive reviews about Clevatess, but literally all of them are very superficial and I've never seen any detalization on what exactly makes this show so good? Maybe you can explain it to me? Isn't it just a "story" about an super powerful monster who's bored and just wanders around and does random things for no particular purpose or reason? What's the point of interest here? Where is the actual narrative here? And what's the point if all those human actions are completely irrelevant anyway?

p.s. This is literally the reason I droed Overlord after the first season, so how similar are these shows?

I appreciate this specific question, @PoohTheGun, since it's forcing me to throw out sequels from my consideration. With that in mind...

In seasonal alphabetical order, my personal favorites of 2025 - with a total limit of 10:
WINTER: Medalist, Tasokare Hotel
SPRING: Apocalypse Hotel, Kowloon Generic Romance, Rock is a Lady's Modesty, Umamusume Cinderella Gray (this is not a sequel as it is based on a different source than Pretty Derby)
SUMMER: Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express, Ruri Rocks
FALL: May I Ask For One Final Thing?, Shabake

Spring was clearly the best season for new shows for me this year, but I really enjoyed Summer's Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express and recommend it to anyone. It's free on YouTube, and the English Dub is actually my preferred format given how natural and fun it sounds.

@Zarutaku I have to admit, Takopii is a really great series. It’s a bit of a shame it’s an ONA according to MAL. Since ONAs, TV Specials, and movies usually have a production advantage over seasonal anime, I decided to exclude them from this group.

I also liked Nukitashi; it felt quite fresh and unique. My friend even told me the sequel is going to be even more intense!

@Rivka44 I really like Cingray too, but by my definition, it’s not exactly a 'new' anime. It’s similar to the Vigilante case, where characters from the previous series still play a significant role.

Also, I’ve never heard of Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express before. Looks like I need to do some more homework on that one lol.

@Stanis150 You should definitely check out kanLEN’s post for more details; they probably have a much deeper insight than I do! lol.

Without spoiling too much, I can tell you that this isn't a linear 'OP protagonist' story. While Clevatess is an invincible Demon Lord, he acts more like an observer of humanity.

The story kicks off after Alicia, a female hero, is defeated by him. She’s brought back to life to serve as a wet nurse for a High Elf infant—the sole survivor of a city Clevatess just leveled (mostly because that city kept annoying him by sending heroes to his doorstep lol). Clevatess spared the baby because of the mother’s final plea while she shielded the child under the ruins. He wants to judge whether the five human races deserve to exist or should be wiped out. There’s also another reason he decided to care for the baby, but I’ll leave that for you to discover.

The plot thickens because Alicia can't provide milk, so they set out to find another nurse, leading them to Nelluru, whose backstory is equally dark. This is where their journey as an unlikely trio begins.

It gets messy because the fall of the High Elf kingdom triggers a political power struggle among the remaining four races. Everyone wants a piece of the High Elves' land and advanced technology. Our main group inevitably gets dragged into the middle of this chaotic conflict.

I’ve tried to keep the spoilers to a minimum, but I’m confident you won't be disappointed like you were with Overlord. In fact, you might end up pitying Alicia so much that you'll actually find yourself wishing for Clevatess to show off his god-like powers more often! haha.

@DesuMaiden Actually, I’ve been consistently reviewing and ranking shows like this for a long time, but I only used to post them on my private Facebook page. I didn't really get much engagement there, so I figured I’d start sharing my passion here instead! lol.

Of what I watched for 2025 I don't have anything good to say about the year. Almost without exception what I did like was a sequel to something.
Might have to pick up Medalist again but my impression of it was very poor, maybe unfair because before starting it I was already sick of ENGI for their version of KanColle.

Kijin Gentoushou, even though suffering from cheap foreign labor, makes the one new entry of 2025. Development of characters was slow and so I think it will be one of those that gets better on the 2nd watch.

My favorite continuations were Nageki no Bourei wa Intai shitai Part 2 and Tensei shitara Dainana Ouji Datta node, Kimama ni Majutsu wo Kiwamemasu II and DanDaDan II. Happy with Bourei showing improving work from the studio making it and Dainana Ouji not dropping animation quality. DanDaDan has things the manga didn't (couldn't) have. Possibly the single point of innovation I saw this year and it wasn't animation but music. Bourei is technically trying to do something with it's opening & ending sequences but that began in 2024.
Isekai Quartet 3 and Kuroshitsuji: Midori no Majo-hen, far inferior to where they started, make it into the favorites by being the only other anime I would watch again.

Mattaku Saikin no Tantei to Kitara is in the precarious place of having a wonderful style and having too thin of jokes per segment. It doesn't belong in my favorites and yet there're still blank spots. Until I find proof to the contrary this was a shitty year.

There's no sequel announced yet, only non-canon specials that already finished airing, they are pretty intense indeed.

@PoohTheGun I already spoiled what +/- happens in the first few episodes and you just repeated it. However, I still don't see how this contradicts the conclusion I came to? Isn't the whole plot just a whim of the main monster, including this picking up of the child? And isn't that Alicia just a doll that the main monster is just playing with?
