Quite frankly, there's a lot to diverge about the Obelia family, though Claude and Athanasia still retain their amicable relationship amidst the former not wanting to hear of her mother's name for all eternity, if the burnt portraits aren't an indication enough. Otherwise, with Felix, the father-daughter teatime pleasantries continue until the mood got broken down due to the name mentioning itself, which only cuts the hopes of Athanasia foreseeing a change to her fated future.

The mood within the Obelia mansion takes a hit, though Felix and the other maids try to find a compromise with Claude to allow memories of his wife to stay around for Athanasia's comfort. And seemingly enough, the daughter helping her father calm his mood down to realize the same, that Claude and his wife have a close bond in the past as well.

The plot begins to thread even deeper from the next episode onwards...

I'm not sure why it feels so uncanny to see this manhwa in particular made into an anime (or is it a donghua? it has a Chinese name but the show is in Japanese), but I'm still enjoying it. It simultaneously feels nostalgic. There are lots of manhwa with this similar plot, but I remember this one best.

Despite this, I'm enjoying it so far. Can't wait for my favorite character to start showing up more often.

This episode is so good. Not a source reader, but I like how the show's aesthetics really nailed that royal fantasy vibe.

Everytime I see Claude in a cloth like that I always think he should just walk around naked, no one has enough courage to tell him wrong anyway.

@amentet its source material is korean actually lmao but yeah anime is adapted by china based company. I believe the company itself also has headquarters in japan or close ties with japan hence why the japanese dub came out so fast?

This episode was so good. I have a mix of pain and something else in my heart, something stuck in my throat. It touched me beautifully. Even though it's a sensitive subject for Athanasia's father, he still fulfills her wishes. He needs to work more on how to deal with his feelings and with his daughter, but wow, they're progressing so well.

Loved the episode. I’m curious when and where Athanasia learned that bedtime song she sang to her dad to help him sleep. I also wonder why Claude burned all of Diana’s portraits. Why does he want to forget about her? Is it because he actually hates her, after all?

Or is there more to it, that he was actually deeply in love with her, so much so that he wants to completely forget about her to avoid hurting himself every single time he remembers her? Not sure. But I feel that’s quite difficult, since Athanasia literally came from Diana.

So he’s literally going to remember Diana every single time he looks at Athanasia, which he does a lot. In any case, I’m also super curious about this Lucas character, who’s apparently a main character but still hasn’t appeared yet. Who exactly is he supposed to be?

Great episode I loved when she started singing the lullabies was adorable. Also seeing her interact more with her dad and finding out about more of her moms lore was really cool. The next episode preview looked interesting its gonna start exploring the magic system which should be cool. Also I was wondering if there any manhwa readers who can shed light on what they changed in the anime adaptation cause its feeling more like a regression type plot than a isekai one right now.

I think this is where it's at- from a grief perspective, this makes the most sense. Remember too that Claude can use magic, and he comments in this episode while restoring Athy's pictures that he would have been able to forget "in just one more year". We also saw the purple magic discharging over his chest and causing him pain in a previous episode (after he saved Athy from drowning). I think he tried to use magic to forget Diana because her loss was so painful, but it was probably magic that required time to be complete and depended on not triggering memories of her, which explains why he didn't want to see Athy in the beginning.

I honestly do not remember that part at all. I just remember that he did indeed, save Athanasia, but I only remember him using magic to actually dry her, that's about it. I don't really recall any pain he felt afterwards, but maybe he actually did, my memory's just so ass.

I think he tried to use magic to forget Diana because her loss was so painful, but it was probably magic that required time to be complete and depended on not triggering memories of her, which explains why he didn't want to see Athy in the beginning.

Although I love the idea since it sounds really convenient, I don’t think that’s the case. Every time Claude saw a sleeping Athanasia, he would comment on how she was as impudent as her mother, which shows that he hadn’t actually forgotten about her at all. I don’t think just two days would be enough.

@renaijun It's likely because Kadokawa wanted the rights to the donghua in Japan immediately since they are publishing the physical version of the webtoon in Japanese. It was also ranked #2 on the "Manga We Want to See Animated" in Anime Japan 2022, and #6 in 2023. They didn't even have to make it an anime themselves to advertise the webtoon in Japan, quick win for them!

@amentet The original voices are in Mandarin Chinese, but Kadokawa is simultaneously releasing the Japanese dub. The first PV of the donghua actually dropped two years ago, and the Japanese dub and broadcast was only announced about 3 weeks ago ^^

Appreciate you clearing it up! I knew the manhwa was Korean, but that makes more sense for the adaptation. I was wondering if it was a collaboration between animation studios for some reason. I'm glad there's a Japanese dub, though - I really like how expressive they are via their voice, including in comparison to English (my native language.)

@amentet Np! I actually like both the Mandarin and Japanese dub, but I get that people who aren't used to Mandarin would prefer the Japanese. I would suggest trying out the Chinese OP if you're interested, I prefer that song haha :D

Wow, that was the best episode yet. I'd actually say so far this season, this show is the one that has me the most emotionally invested. I'm completely hooked.

The ending scene was amazing. There is so much pay off from watching every episode.

When you accidentally become important to your dad lol. Been traveling the last week so can’t say for sure, but it feels like not enough people are talking about this. This show is so beautiful. Athy being able to see the future and trying to avoid the “bad end” she saw in her dream is so interesting and I’m loving this daddy/daughter dynamic. The way she’s come to realize her dad doesn’t hate her and Claude is kinda anxious about her accepting him as a dad is sooo cute. I just need to learn more about the mom and his backstory!

A lot of changes in this episode as well. I wonder why they changed who was depicted in the hidden portrait... Do they not plan on touching on Claude's full backstory?

I'm still glad to see so many people like the episode regardless.

I love that they made one of my favorite Manwha's into an anime! I'm also glad that Felix cleared up the misunderstanding to Athanasia about Claude not hating her. I personally don't always like the trope in comics or animations where misunderstandings like that are dragged out in the story too long.

Man, this is turning out to be one of the best anime I’ve ever watched. I’ve felt every possible emotion already. I wasn’t expecting anything from it, but it’s actually really good and it looks like the plot’s going to be super interesting.
