I wonder what "completely new anime" means if not sequel?
Readaptation after just five years would be weird.

Well honestly a rework would be nice, I haven’t read it in a while and am not fully caught up with the LN but while the anime is good alone it’s actually a really bad adaptation of the LN

They cut some amazing things from the LN and in general Elaina isn’t portrayed perfectly in the anime either.

So a proper adaptation would be nice, the standalone anime is good though so if they just continued it with a season 2 that would be fine too

Does this mean theyre completely reworking it or is season 2 in production? Or does this mean something completely different?

I just hope they adapt everything well, but I'm very happy with the news. I love Elaina-chan!

Very fervently hope that it isn't something like a re-adaptation. I wouldn't watch something like that as I already quite liked the series as it exists. I doubt that it would be that as I've never seen one announced as recently as five years after the release of the first iteration of something (2020 to 2025, even if it ended up being a year or two or more until it was actually released after the initial production announcement), but you never know.

A "new anime project" could signify anything, as always with these announcements. It could even be a series of shorts or a film. If it's new content which in any way continues the story or even rather than being a direct linear continuation, is something like side stories taking place somewhere within the same timeline of season one, even if it's just comedic and/or fanservice-type material, I'll probably watch it.

But what would be ideal is that it's an actual second season. Full length episodes, full length season. And in that case I'd definitely watch it. One of the better series of 2020. I don't necessarily think that it can hold a real candle to something like Kino no Tabi, but it's the closest other and newer thing I've seen in that same vein.

If this is a remake then i suppose it'd include unadapted chapters. But that'd be a waste of time since they clearly hinted at amnesia's appearance at the very end of the anime. It's perfectly fine to continue it from where it left off.

@Flametail They also apparently updated her character art on the official site.

Really wish MAL admins would disallow unconfirmed posts like these, like they could type this and it could be weeks, months or never for something to come out.
Don't understand why they don't do something about these since all it does is create rumors and speculation for something that could possibly never happen.

Also today's 5th anniversary public radio broadcast ended and seems like there was nothing about a season 2 or anything as the attendees are tweeting about the event after it ended about ~15 minutes ago from my post and no one seems to be mentioning anything about a new season or anything.

@Xanek Yup, agreed. OP seems to have a history of these "new anime in development" posts too after looking through their threads. Not cool. Was too good to be true and got people's hopes up.
