That first friend you kept constantly texting talking bout ur day and the good days you had as a kid.

•Are u still friends with em?

•Do u prefer the old friends you had back then or the new online friends you made currently?

•What app/website did u make the most friends on?

Hard for me to say.
I recognize a lot of regulars, but I never made online overly personal. I know some ones stopped showing up for a ban or other reasons.
My biggest following online was an X account with 11000 followers, but the most accepted friends is mal by far. Mal allows discussions more than most websites where ai likes to shadowban users who frequent them. Ie yt comments

Depends what counts as online friend, I certainly don't remember my first online acquaintance.
No, this isn't my signature.

Yes I do. It was a dude close to my age who lives in Wisconsin. He friended me when we were both members of a Godzilla community on PSN around 2016 or 17

He's still on my friends list yeah, although I haven't actually talked to him in a while.

Online friends as I never really had actual friends previously anyway

Ehhhh......hard to say, either MAL or PSN, although I'm not sure really if I've made proper friends on either platform. I seem to just reach a limit with them and communication just kinda stops without any actual fallout happening?

There was this girl about 1-2 years younger when I was still in regular school and under 18 myself. She seemed overly attached and even sent me a picture of her within a few messages. She was quite cute and beautiful. If I didn't have socializing options in person, weren't so skeptical about personal relationships over the Internet with people I don't know and if my savior complex were stronger back then, perhaps my life would have become more interesting.

Afterwards, there was a small circle of people on the same German-speaking Naruto forums and I eventually got to MAL from there, but I was active in some other boards before becoming active here. Originally only used this site to update my list, since I was already having people to write to via MSN/Windows Live Messenger from that old community.
Even if profile messages or some personal/private messaging was something that I did on other sites before, it only really started here on MAL to gain traction, but so far, I wouldn't really say that I've successfully made any genuine friends. Perhaps some (more or less) good potential candidates, but it doesn't feel as real because there doesn't seem to be as much interest as I used to feel from the very first people that I had socialized with safe from maybe 1 or 2 users here, but meeting them first feels like a confirmation of being stuck in a bad end(ing) because I couldn't get attached, interested and determined enough with girls/women when it counted and they had actual interest in meeting up with me

I don't remember the first, as I met my first circle of online friends in one summer, back in '07, and I don't remember who was first out of that bunch. Back then, had a short-lived online "family" on Veoh (which went belly up last year, although I hadn't used it since '09). We were all in our teens or early twenties at the time. I remember their user names, and supposed real names, still. At this point, I'm still only in contact with one person. A lot of people went *poof* that first year, and eventually lost contact with the few that didn't. Other than a couple years where we didn't talk, I've been in contact with the one for over eighteen years at this point. We don't text nearly as much as we used to, but still more frequently than a lot of people I know, lol.

I don't make new friends much anymore. Try to get acquainted with people sometimes, but...yeah. I have reconnected with a few though, thanks to here and Discord.

Probably Veoh, '07-'08. And then Crunchyroll, '09-'12. Didn't really use cr to watch shit, but it was a good place to talk with people back then. And then a couple forums I used to be on, though they were smaller. And here, to a lesser extent.

No. I have no idea who that would even be. I have only one online friend I actually talk to still and we're planning for her to come visit our house later this year. She's from an anime discord server I used a ton before 2021

When the twin towers went down i visited cnn chat (yeah!) where i met a well known European scholar from one of the big EU countries. We were both blind drunk and she was the age of my mother lol. After she retired we had vacations together with her family and my (then) girlfriend where we proceeded to get blind drunk and talk politics, history and philosophy for hours. We still exchange messages like 4-5 times a year.

A long time ago I had a friend on runescape. It was soon after construction was introduced and I remember his life was put into chaos and on his last day logged in brought all his friends over to his house im game and we just chilled and chatted. It was fun.

First site I made an account on was Gamespot in 2004/5 and the first person I remember at least talking to that I added as a friend had a Toad in their name. We ended up having a few of us in this group on the site (I think they called them unions?) related to Nintendo. Eventually moved on to our own site and then now there a Discord with a few members left that I still post in occasionally. That OG friend I actually added on facebook, but it seems sadly he must of recently deleted his account.

Met my first actual online friend who didn't disappear after a month on Roblox, back in like 2015, he was also the first person I was comfortable voicechatting with. I don't play online games anymore and and he's undergoing mandatory military service in Israel so we rarely catch up, if ever.

#1: • Yes.

• The newer ones; some older ones turned out to be toxic.

• Lichess. I have only made a few friends on other forums (which will probably change when I become more active on them).

As I have social difficulties face-to-face, online friends have been convenient for me. In a way, they were a method for me to grow and better understand others in a less awkward way. Training wheels, perhaps (Are training wheels a good thing, though? I often wonder about that).

The first internet friend I ever had was someone on Roblox when I was in 6th grade (around 2014). We would text and play with each other every day, and we were close for a long time but never texted outside of Roblox. We both started playing less and less, and we didn't talk as much. About 2-3 years ago I checked their account and it's gone now. I hope they're doing well right now.

1. no. naturally drifting apart.
2. old.
3. the aforementioned mmo's forum.

Good question. Hm... I suppose that would have to be from Free Realms, but no, I'm not really in touch with anyone from there anymore.

I do actually. A dude from Germany when I was like 15. He was a couple years older, but he was the first close friend I ever had online. We talked every day for about a year, about everything, then one day, he just said he was moving on in the world, and never logged back in anywhere again

Miss him. Hope he's doing well
