I'm gathering information from the moments when dates are shown on-screen, typically after time-skips and each hero's initial introduction. I'm also hunting for whenever any character says anything specific about the passage of time. I'll be updating the timeline after watching the episodes as they're published. There are no spoilers for new viewers, because I keep them under spoiler tags.
Obviously, since we're discussing the story here, the replies to the main post will inevitably contain spoilers. Only continue to the replies if you are up-to-date on the series.

Tell me if I missed anything or if I made a mistake. This timeline consists only of confirmed and at least 90% certain events, no baseless speculation.

Useful links:
- episodes' schedule,
- Character Unlock PVs,
- Choose Your Hero PV,
- official Japanese timeline,
- voting site/main hub.

If a spoiler tag displays 'Episodes X-Y' or 'Episodes X and Y', you're required to watch ALL of the episodes specified or you will get spoiled.
If a spoiler tag displays something else (PVs or other media), it's safe to check and is only kept under a spoiler tag for visual consistency.

This is an amazing and thorough timeline and I command you for taking up such a task!
One very important thing to add though is that the Crunchyroll translations completely messed up a very important detail that can be added to the timeline, to the point that it's baffling that they didn't add it in.

Image translation (BiliBili subs are both in Mandarin and Japanese, that's why translation is repeated twice):

This part is a voiceover by Queen, who says that 28 years ago, there was an event called the "Dawnfall incident". Seeing as how she said this in 28 A.C., this means that the "Dawnfall Incident" happened in 1 A.C.
Very keen eyes and Chinese fans+fan translators might notice that this incident had been named way back in episode 5, specifically when Yang Cheng was looking into the E-soul job application paper. This part is very spoiler-y because the "Dawnfall Incident" wasn't talked about thoroughly in the show yet, so the rest I marked as spoilers. But, it helps paint a picture to the timeline.
So yeah, spoilers:

Mr. Matchstick and Ms. Blazing Fire are involved in a serious scandal of some kind.

This is another (smaller) missed translation from Crunchyroll, but this scandal is about the couple cheating, which makes sense this is a big deal, since they're a couple who are sharing the role of X. This info is mentioned in French, Japanese, and I believe Spanish, but for some reason omitted in English.

From the website :- he mysteriously rose to become hero X 2yrs ago. We know that hero tournament is just around the corner in lin ling time(41AC) so hero X took position of X in 39AC

Updated the timeline with information from @foxsurprise. I don't know Chinese, so I'll be counting on all of you guys to give me translations for untranslated or mistranslated text. I'll also mention beforehand that I don't have Twitter or most other social medias, so if anything is shared by the producers behind the scenes, I'm not really able to read it.

Motivated by @Anienjoyer, I added the information from uniquely animated PVs. Also, I added the clarification for the Dawnfall incident based on E-Soul's Character Unlock PV.

Thank you for adding in my evidence! You have done a really good job combing through all the available info. I'll come back to this thread if there's anything else that needs to be added that's hard evidence.
(Also, forgot to say that the cheating scandal specifically used the word that has connotations with infidelity rather than cheating on a test or something. So it's a lover's quarrel.)

After watching Episode 9, I went back to E-Soul's story arc to compare the exact situations of E-Soul vs E-Soul fight and Cyan's first concert. I determined that they're most likely happening at the same time, because in both cases the story heavily showcases the same song (My Color) and both concerts are happening in the same place.

I didn't find the super-exact-hard confirmation that it's Cyan's first concert in E-Soul's arc, but in Episode 6 I found the close-up of concert tickets on which '24-26.4 (Chinese text) 36' is written. Unless anyone who knows Chinese deconfirms it, I determine it's the date of a three-day concert happening during 24th-26th April 36 AC. Assuming that my previous 99% certain hypothesis is correct and that E-Soul's 34th Anniversary is a true anniversary and not a symbolic one, it means E-Soul started his hero career during one of these three days (probably 24th but that's just a guess) in 2 AC.

Also, if anyone's uncertain about me saying that 39AC's Hero X gave Lucky Cyan's her first coin, the man looks exactly like Hero X's non-hero attire, does the same gesture X does towards Ahu in the first PV and both of them are showcased with a coin (unlike any other character introduced so far). Unless it's an intentional misdirection, I'm 100% certain it's the same person.

34 AC: - Cyan performs as a street musician and is recruited as a hero by Ken of DOS.

Small correction for this one. The official Japanese site (since this is partially made by Aniplex in Japan) says that quote occured in 35 AC. Their image order for certain things within the year is wrong (ie. Firm man's statue was seen in Yang Cheng's arc long before the conclusion of it, but placed last for that year on the website), but the actual year for when these events occured is correct (ie. statue did occur in 36 AC).

Episode 10 is out.

I wondered about two things.

1. Did the 'mysterious hero' become X in 36 AC, or was it just a moment where he defeated Queen, but didn't manage to take the top spot yet? The news have focused on the guy being 'a nobody who defeated Queen', and not on 'a nobody becoming a new X', so I suppose the second option is more probable. It also puts my current placement of him becoming X in 39 AC into question, since First PV doesn't actually put any dates there, except for the sole fact that its top 10 list looks like it should in 41 AC.

For the time being, this placement in the timeline is unclear, but it will probably be quickly answered in the upcoming story arc of Queen, so it's not really important right now.

2. Did the after-concert events happen still in 36 AC, or already in 37 AC? The Japanese website, despite its one minor error (regarding Firm Man's statue, as stated in the reply above), makes it clear that Two E-Souls' Duel happens at the time of Lucky Cyan's first concert, so that part is confirmed, but it's not yet updated for the information from Episode 10.

In the after-concert events' recollection, the news reporter says 'This is the third severe incident since last month's water quality incident [...]'. As stated in my earlier post, the concert happens in April, so that would put that news in May or June. I doubt Lucky Cyan and her agency would let her Trust Value dwindle for half a year (which would have to happen in order to make it 37 AC), so that sets both 'Queen vs current X duel' and 'Lucky Cyan saves District 70' events in 36 AC.

Of course, if someone has anything to disprove or approve what I'm saying, I'm ready to fix my mistakes.

Two things to add to the beginning part of the timeline. Below was shared on the show's official twitter account when Nice became the top 10 hero (so after ep 3's events).

5 BC- trust values are now known to be capable of turning someone into becoming a superhero and/or a genius. It is unknown if trust values were a thing prior but not taken full advantage of yet, or whether they were discovered that same year.

Translation:

2 AC onwards* - Hero tower was built by the commission after the first Hero X tournament.

*In ~2 AC, E-soul became the first X. However, we're unsure if a tournament occured for E-soul to achieve the feat of becoming X, and whether he became X immediately after. Plus, we don't know how quickly they built the tower. So, let's put "2 AC onwards"

Translation:

Official Japanese timeline got updated. It turns out that, in fact, Lucky Cyan's management was letting her Trust Value dwindle for over half a year.

It doesn't say it out right (yet) that X vs Queen duel happened in 37 AC (it only mentions the fact that Queen gave Lucky Cyan the information about the black box pendrive), but it's safe to assume that it happened in 37 AC. If not, it will be debunked in 48 hours or so, anyway.

If another theory that people have about 'Hero Tournament being bi-yearly and not yearly' turns out to be true, it would mean that the announcer from First PV saying 'For two years noone has managed to shake X's crown' meant that 'X kept his title for two tournaments in a row', ergo four years. In this case, my initial assumption about 'X' becoming X in 39 AC would be wrong and changed to 37 AC.

hey so the new episode dropped. I am trying to compile the info, please feel free to point out mistakes and edits if any. I am not too smart

26 AC - queen at 12yrs old takes entrance exam and joins a university

28 AC - queen at 14yrs old graduates from university following her speech and joins the hero association ! (I think she immediately joins the hero association)

note for me : queen says in her speech that 28yrs have passed since fall of dawn incident. so fall of dawn and after commision happened at same time. i just didn't register it before or forgot about it. just leaving it here

some extra info : 8 AC was the last time a female hero was X. which is surprising that they didn't count fireblaze and matchstick duo. like they are sharing spot of X but doesn't that still make fireblaze as miss X ? I rechecked the subs, it says single female hero so that's why (I hope that's their name and I didn't misremember that duo)

##now here is where it becomes more confusing about the yrs and the tournament

11:18 mark in anime. that old guy says Bowa becomes hero X at 16th hero tournament and at the same time Queen enters top 10 by age 18. he says "BY" age 18 not "AT" but i think it means the same so Queen is 18 now which means the year should be 32 AC.

###that leaves the question as to whether hero tournament happens every year or every 2 year !? because it becomes hella confusing here. this part is speculation

Bowa hero in the same scene says : " your aren't suggesting for me to pass her the title of X to her next year, right ?". Emphasis on "next year" but here's the thing Queen lost to X in 18th hero tournament or 34 AC (if hero tournament occurs every year) we skipped 17th hero tournament. then that means he becomes hero X in 34 AC which is hella wrong so that's why I believe that hero tournament occurs every 2 yrs.

Then let's assume hero tournament occurs every 2 yrs then : then 18th hero tournament will take place in 36 AC. that is when X defeats Queen to become hero X. So i guess when they say no one has managed to shake X crown for 2 yrs they mean 2 tournament or 4yrs, which probably checks out !? that X is in that position from 36 - 40 AC !!

please feel free to add your thoughts and point out if I made any mistake

Episode 11 is out and it didn't help at all with the problem described in the post above. I guess we'll have to wait until next Friday, when the Japanese timeline gets updated. There were some dates shown in the episode, but they weren't directly connected to the Hero Tournaments.

I deleted 39 AC/First PV from the timeline, because it's clearly unreliable in all shapes or forms one might look at it.

26 and 28 AC, with Queen joining and graduating HAC university are obvious.

By this point it's clear to me that Hero Tournaments are neither happening bi-yearly nor yearly. Let's work backwards.

41 AC - 21st Hero Tournament | 41 AC - 21st Hero Tournament
39 AC - 20th Hero Tournament | 40 AC - 20th Hero Tournament
37 AC - 19th Hero Tournament | 39 AC - 19th Hero Tournament
35 AC - 18th Hero Tournament | 38 AC - 18th Hero Tournament (Queen loses against X)
33 AC - 17th Hero Tournament | 37 AC - 17th Hero Tournament
31 AC - 16th Hero Tournament | 36 AC - 16th Hero Tournament (Bowa defeats Extro/Smile)
29 AC - 15th Hero Tournament | 35 AC - 15th Hero Tournament (Extro/Smile becomes X)
...
7 AC - 4th Hero Tournament | 24 AC - 4th Hero Tournament
...
1 AC - 1st Hero Tournament | 21 AC - 1st Hero Tournament

41 AC = 21st tournament is already known in the timeline, unless-
Okay, actually, now that I look at it, I see a different resolution.
It's not said what exact time it is at the end of Nice's story arc. It's only said that 15 days remain until 21st Hero Tournament.
What if the 21st Hero Tournament happens in 42 AC?

42 AC - 21st Hero Tournament | 42 AC - 21st Hero Tournament
40 AC - 20th Hero Tournament | 41 AC - 20th Hero Tournament
38 AC - 19th Hero Tournament | 40 AC - 19th Hero Tournament
36 AC - 18th Hero Tournament | 39 AC - 18th Hero Tournament (Queen loses against X)
34 AC - 17th Hero Tournament | 38 AC - 17th Hero Tournament
32 AC - 16th Hero Tournament | 37 AC - 16th Hero Tournament (Bowa defeats Extro/Smile)
30 AC - 15th Hero Tournament | 36 AC - 15th Hero Tournament (Extro/Smile becomes X)
...
8 AC - 4th Hero Tournament (first female X) | 24 AC - 4th Hero Tournament
...
2 AC - 1st Hero Tournament (E-Soul becomes the first X) | 21 AC - 1st Hero Tournament

I'm onto something here.

Regardless of counting method, it's clear Hero Tournament is not yearly. 18th Hero Tournament must happen before Lucky Cyan gets the black box pendrive from Queen in 37 AC. And, considering Queen's great disappointment and others' surprise at her quick recovery, and the fact everyone treats it as a recent event, it can't be 19th Hero Tournament yet either - I presume she would already be accustomed to a thought of losing by that point. Also, the media wouldn't make fun of her at losing second time (when X was already known), only the first (when he was a complete stranger to the public).

Yearly Hero Tournament is completely disjointed from the events of the story, regardless of the date of 21st one.

Bi-yearly Hero Tournament of 41 = 21 theory is... weird. Queen loses in 35 AC, recovers in 37 AC and is lauded by the CEO for her quick recovery... that lasted a full year at the very least. E-Soul becoming X and first female X dates are also disjointed from the tournament timeline.

But... Bi-yearly Hero Tournament of 42 = 21 theory is correct about everything so far.
E-Soul wins the first tournament in 2 AC.
Female hero wins the fourth tournament in 8 AC.
30/32 AC - Extro/Bowa - unverifiable (yet).
36 AC - Queen loses against X between Lucky Cyan's first concert in 36 AC and her 37 AC mission in District 70. District 70's fall was not instant, so maybe Lucky Cyan's fall in Trust Value was not particularly fast either. Queen's fail in the tournament might have been the event that changed Lucky Cyan into a full-on disaster scapegoat, and thus made DOS worry about her ranking only at that point.

For the time being, I'm going to put Hero Tournaments as happening bi-yearly since 2 AC. I will verify it with official Japanese timeline when it updates on Friday. If someone has something to add, you're welcome to share your thoughts.

----

I was writing this post for an hour and refreshed the page before posting it to see @Anienjoyer reply. It seems that our thoughts align. I'll be fixing the timeline right now.

Cyan is given a single coin for her performance by a mysterious man (current X)
How do you know that guy was X ? Is it confirmed by official sources ?
@ZXEAN I've already explained it

Also, Bilibili's official channel posted this short with the title 'X appears for the first time'.

The official Japanese timeline has been updated today, adding the content of Episode 11.

The continuity error of Firm Man's statue being built after E-Soul's arc (when it was clearly visible in Episode 6) has not been fixed there yet. However, the additions made with Episode 11 all perfectly align with with my deductions made in the past week.

It also confirms why Lucky Cyan's Trust Value's fall seemed to become a problem only in 37 AC.

Queen lost the tournament in the second half of 36 AC, making the previously irrelevant conspiracy theories regarding orphanage in District 70 spiral out of control. Lucky Cyan was marked as a scapegoat by the public in a span of only a few months or even weeks, not a full year. Queen's recovery after failure in the tournament was noted to be quick, so Cyan's mission to save District 70 most likely happened very early in 37 AC.

The previous notion I've had about DOS being idle about Lucky Cyan's Trust Value for a weirdly long time is now clarified. It's not really important in the greater scope of things, but it was something I personally thought about a lot, so I wanted to throw it out here for posterity, so that others don't waste time on it.

Episode 13 is out. It's very straightforward, since everything happens in 39 AC or is explicitly stated to have happened 'X years ago', except for one thing - Loli saving Da Xiong from bullies. It will most likely appear in Japanese timeline at the end of the week, so I'll fix it then, but for the time being I put it at '28~36 AC'. She seems to be in elementary school then, which I think would align with this time period, considering she's 16 years old in 39 AC.

Episode 15 is out.

Most of the events are either stated to happen at a certain date or are simply a different POV of events from Loli's story arc. However, due to various jumps in the beginning of the episode, there's one uncertain event - Nuonuo's birth.

1. Wang Yi becomes Ghostblade in 20 AC.
2. He saves Zhang Lan.
3. He marries her 176 days later.
4. Wang Nuonuo is born.
5. Zhang Lan leaves Ghostblade and takes Nuonuo with her in 23 AC.

Later in the episode Zhang Lan states that Nuonuo is 18 years old. It must happen in either 38 or 39 AC considering that it's a flashback from a time not long ago in relation to Loli vs Ghostblade fight in 39 AC.
If it happens in 38 AC, Nuonuo would be born in 20 AC, which seems very fast, considering they married 176 days after meeting (though they might have reproduced earlier than that), and that around 9 months would have to pass for Nuonuo to be born, and that Ghostblade must have been recruited on the very beginning of 20 AC for it all to happen before the year ended.
It's more probable that Nuonuo was born in 21 AC, which would place the Zhang Lan-Ghostblade talk in 39 AC, which would align with the timeline just as well. It's where I placed her birth on my timeline, though official Japanese timeline can always surprise us, of course.

@HadeZerX shouldn't you also put Big Johnny's rampage on the 22 AC, after Sheng died? I don't know if it's Big Johnny tho, but it look the same as in the episode 12 I think

Episode 18 is out.

Most of the information is straightforward, since it concerns events from other episodes and there are no new dates to place. While looking at those dates, I've realized a few things and decided to place and confirm certain people becoming X on the timeline. Let's get it all straight to check for errors later:

1. E-Soul becomes X in 2 AC, presumably remaining one until 6 AC. That'd make him a 3-times X. He could also be overthrown earlier but he's a guy who saved the world, so I think he could also be the first '3-times X' record holder.
2. A female hero becomes X in 8 AC.
3. Sheng is X in 16 AC, but it's not known when he took the title. It is possible that female X was 3/2-times X until 12/10 AC, and Sheng was 2/3-times X from 14/12 AC.
3. Vortex becomes X in 18 AC, overthrowing Sheng, and remains one until 20 AC. That makes him 2-times X.
4. Phobiaclone becomes X in 22 AC after Vortex fails to recruit Sheng to help and also gets heavily wounded by Big Johnny. He's a 1-time X, because...
5. DJ Shindig becomes X in 24 AC, which is clearly said in Loli's first episode. He's a 1-time X, because...
6. Mr. Matchstick and Ms. Blazing Fire become X pair in 26 AC, which is stated in Episode 8 (they're said to be the last season X pair). Depending on when their scandal happens, they're either 1 or 2-times (28 AC) X pair.
7. Extro/Smile becomes X in 30 AC. He's a 1-time X, because...
8. Bowa becomes the second female X in 32 AC, defeating Extro/Smile. She's a 2-times X, because...
9. A mysterious hero becomes X in 36 AC. He's a 3-times X and will try to defend his title in 42 AC, when the second season of To Be Hero X happens. If he wins, he'll be the longest-reigning X in history.

Assuming the first female hero and Sheng had nobody in between them, and that E-Soul was 3-times X, and that the X-pair of 26 AC remained X for 28 AC, we already know all the X title holders in history.

I'm actually having an extended discussion on this topic on Reddit, so you can check it, if you're interested.

Episode 20 is out.

Added information from this Twitter/X post, which I missed before, regarding Sheng's and Vortex's relationship.

Sheng became X in 14 AC. Vortex became X in 16 AC and was X again by the time of 22 AC (so he won again in 20 AC). However, as we know from the first PV and now Episode 20, no hero was a consecutive 3-time X holder. Phobiaclone is the most likely candidate to become X in 18 AC and 22 AC.

It also clarifies why Phobiaclone would like to assassinate Vortex in the plane crash. They've been taking the X title from one another for past eight years. He probably wanted to take Vortex out of the picture, while he was still (at least somewhat) wounded after the fight with Big Johnny and while Phobiaclone still had the position (and thus - power) of X in 23 AC.

@HadeZerX there seems to be a problem. Lil Johnny's arc or maybe Luo Li's arc mentioned at the start of the journey towards the Spaceship that the expedition takes place in Year 40, man. The Hero Tournaments seem to happen in the even years. Right after the incident happened, the 20th tournament was cancelled. This also alludes to the fact that the "Ruins Incidence" takes place in Year 40.

That being said, you're doing GOD'S work here mate!! Keep it up

@Teruki_Inoue No. It's been explicitly said multiple times the expedition to the spaceship happened in 39 AC.

year unknown : rock at some point in time picks up dragon boy to raise him to become zero

*everything else seems to be happening in the year 40 or 41AC after the ruins incident and before ling ling hero debut

- dragon boy is rank 12
- ghostblade went from rank 5 to 4
- at 5:54 dragon boy says "those two piece of trash entered top 10 due to failed theater play" I am assuming he talks about loli and jhonnies
- hero Smile has been in top 10 for decades now
- shang de orders nice and at the same time rock orders dragon boy to go after hero smile
- commission has ordered an execution on X
- hero smile incident seems to be dragon boy and nice attacking hero smile. but somehow only nice reputation tanks while dragon boy ranks rises(there's more to it but that remains to be seen)
- hero smile wife is likely divorced or deceased (not 100% sure)
- dragon boy has smile daughter's pendant. (did they kidnap smile daughter?)
- nice is seen holding fear particles in hand

@Anienjoyer i don't know if this information is worth noted into the timeline, but it turned out hero Smile were somewhat acquaintance of now X, who is living on cheap apartment atm, and turned out he's kind of get those powers by sudden chance, and already 'bored' becoming X implied by his words "I want to be normal people again" and he begged Smile to beat him with anything possible on next tournament.

Added all relevant information to the timeline in 40 AC.

The date of Dragon Boy's recruitment will most likely be revealed by Japanese timeline, if ever. For the time being, I didn't put it into the timeline, because without a date it doesn't really matter.

Similarly, the Japanese timeline will probably reveal whether all of this is happening in 40 or 41 AC. Nice is noted to have commited suicide "after the Smile Incident", but it's not known whether it happened e.g. a week after, or it was a sentiment brewing for a year.

Edit: Also, removed all references to Crunchyroll's weird translations of "Shand" and "Extro", since using both names at once cluttered the timeline. Anyone who cares, even if they somehow never saw names Shang De and Smile, will easily recognize them as such.

Episode 22 is out.

A straightforward episode for the most part, especially considering that the official Japanese timeline confirmed episodes 21-22 happen in 40 AC, as I initially suspected.

The official timeline, however, does not specify when Rock found Dragon Boy and when was he tortured/trained by his parents/caretakers/kidnappers (who look vaguely similar to Matchstick and Blazing Fire, but in comparison to the more obvious "Phobiaclone = Shang De's masked cloning guy" theory, I'm not willing to make this guess on this timeline). I doubt that we'll know the answer for that next week, so let's make an educated guess.

  • According to official materials, Dragon Boy is 23 years old in 41 AC; therefore he was born in 18 AC. This could be, of course, a lie, but let's assume it isn't one.
  • In Episodes 21-22's flashbacks, Dragon Boy is seen to be a much shorter person than he is in 40 AC. He's probably 8~15 years old, but could also be 16 (34 AC).
  • In Episode 11, 34 AC, a newscaster calls Dragon Boy a new hero of MG. This is the latest date of his training.

I decided to put his training and recruitment by Rock in 26~34 AC, which corresponds to him being 8~16 years old.

Episode 23 is out and it's very straightforward. Watch the First PV (and all other unique PVs for that matter), if you haven't done so yet.

On the topic, I've just added Queen's and Lucky Cyan's Character Unlock PVs to the timeline, because I realized I forgot to do so. The other seven Character Unlocks (I added E-Soul's to the timeline back in his arc) do not hold information which is both important and place-able on the timeline.

Edit: Official Twitter/X has confirmed that the dark clones are indeed Phobiaclone. It's no longer a theory.
