i never liked near, this chap really made me like near in the anime more, he's too much sneaky in the manga.

the anime really repairs the flaws in this arc, i mean, it's interesting and all, but after seeing L's methods near's method really like trash and boring.

@animalia if my memory don't betray me - this chapter is about near kidnapping one of the police task force, and lying to the task force about it, to make them talk. right?
i know so, because that's the reason i so hate near in the manga. he plays dirty and unfair. something L wouldn't do, and something that's more fitting to mello.
in the anime he does pressure the task force, but he does not kidnapping any task force member.

just watch episode 30 of the anime to see how the anime handled this part of chapters in the anime

initially, near decides that not matter what the result of either asking mogie if the 2nd L is kira or not, the 2nd L is kira, because that's how he decides, there's no any other option. like he and mello are kind of gods that determine who kira really is.
this is not L methods. to determine who kira is, it's not deduction only because of the 13 day rule is fake, but hard evidence. and near decides that 2nd L is kira, because, err, it's fits to his way.
he doesn't say "he might be" but decides and determine that HE'S kira.
that's not how you solve a case.
