The title pretty much says it all. The next gen consoles are going to be considerably more expensive in Brazil. Apparently the XBox One is going to be around $1000. I'm just wondering if any Brazilians here have any more information on why this happens? How do you guys feel in general too, apparently Xbox manage to get around some import taxes by having a factory that produces the console within the country. I guess Sony don't have infrastructure in Brazil. This seems pretty extortionate to me though, my thoughts go out to Brazilian gamers.

Does that mean only underage prostitutes and coke gangs will be able to afford it?

Yeah Date, but last time I checked, 130% of $400 isn't $1800. You would be looking at 300% plus tax, this seems illogical.

According to Sony, import tax is 63% of the price. 21% more goes to retail/distribution. So in the end Sony only makes roughly $275.

This is sad but it is, what it is. I hope Sony does manufacture in Brazil soon to cut the price in half.

We usually get it from Paraguay because they have lower taxes there.
There's some ppl that make a living like that, going to Paraguay to buy eletronics and selling it back in Brazil.

Wow this is old news buddy, Article about the pricing

http://www.kotaku.com.au/2013/10/even-sony-thinks-an-1850-ps4-is-bad-for-gamers/

I'm sure Sony will take the Microsoft route and just build the PS4 in brazil.(http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=702436)

I am from Brazil, and I am here to explain:

PS4 is priced as R$4000. Yes, this is 1800 dollars.

It is cheaper to go to the USA by airplane, buy the PS4 there, many games, a new controller, and come back to Brazil.

But this is not the Government's fault. For the first time, it's not.

XBOX price at EUA: Around 499 dollars, I guess?
Price on Brazil: R$2200 (1000 dollars)

PS4 price at EUA: 399 dollars
Prize on Brazil: R$4000 (1800 dollars).

Fuck logic. The taxes are 60% + some minor shit that would increase the price for about 200. 399 + 60% + R$200 =

10% of 400: 40
40 . 6 = 240
640 dollars
200 reais = 80 dollars

The "correct" price would be 720 dollars.

Which is why gaming is such a costly endeavour outside of the target markets that gaming companies usually aim for (US, Europe, Japan.)

Same goes for games. Pretty much justifies piracy for people that have to spend an entire month's worth of salary to buy the latest game, instead they just stop by their local pirate kiosk to buy the same game cheaper, or just torrent.

Brazil is all fucked up. Government spends absolutely ZERO on schools and hospitals. Nearly 100% of the taxes goes to their bank account. Why USA, the "police of the world", is not doing something about that?

I'm surprised. This is worst than Maldives, way worse. Maldives has it tough with consoles, but not this much.... I think.

How are insane, abusive sky-high taxes NOT the government's fault?

As I said...

PS4
399 dollars - 4000 reais (1800 dollars)
XBOX
~499 dollars - 2200 reais (1000 dollars)

Explain that.

THe Government should have told sony "screw you, we won't accept that absurd price", so yes, it is their fault as well, but Sony is the one who gave Brazil that price. There is no other explanation. XBOX sells way cheaper here.

BTW, if you want to make fast cash, buy a bunch of ps4s are USA and come at Brazil sell them. Heh.

This makes zero sense. What makes you think the US can dictate economic policies of another country?
