THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Despite what Jigen and others say, Lupin and his gang actually profit from saving Zenigata: Lupin knows Zenigata very well and he never has any problems in dealing with him. Besides, Zenigata doesn't really want to catch Lupin: in episode 57 "Will It Be the Computer or Lupin?" Zenigata instantly caught all Lupin's gang once he got serious. Lupin had saved Zenigata before, btw: it was episode 44 "The Vanishing Special Armored Car". But if Zenigata was killed, it would mean that new inspector will be assigned to catch Lupin and that would be a bother. Not that Lupin would be scared of difficulties, though

What was ICPO thinking leaving Lupin's gang in their closes just like that?

I think trying to draw sensible conclusions from multiple episodes is a mistake; Lupin III is far from consistent.

I'm not sure, but I think French police using American M-16 assault rifles is quite wrong. The country makes its own guns.

Might as well mention that the idea that Napoleon was short is a myth caused by differences in French and English measurement systems. He was actually above-average height for the time period.

The music that played during the shots of Jigen filing Lupin and Napoleon XI was very reminiscent of the American TV series Mission Impossible. I wouldn't be surprised for Lupin to do such a thing, but why at this time?

Lupin later disguised himself as Napoleon XI just fine, so even if there was difference in height it couldn't be too big, so we can as well just ignore the cricket that Napoleon XI used: he seemed like a little lunatic anyway, so he could use it to be more authentic, or maybe his bed was too tall, or smth else

Well Napoleon XI and his cronies were a bit too out there, but the sentimentality between Lupin and Zenigata worked well. Deep down they really do like each other. And Jigen and Goemon were true pals too, willingly following Lupin in an endeavor from which they wouldn't profit...directly anyway. We've seen these things before of course, but it's always nice once in awhile. Fujiko meanwhile couldn't be bothered and split early on. This is why I didn't feel bad for her last episode. XD

Awww
I like their love-hate relationships
They care for each other but at same time they want to run away/catch the other person

Zenigata is pretty brave I guess, but also reckless and silly. He really thought those terrorists were just going to drop their weapons and surrender. lol Well, he ended up as a hostage, but at the end of the day Lupin cares about him as much as he cares about him. And so he infiltrated the ICPO to get that Napoleon's descendant in order to exchange him for Zenigata.

The scene where Zenigata mourns for Lupin (while he's standing next to him in disguise) had the best use of the regular Zenigata March I've ever seen. It even launches into the chorus. It's perfectly timed.

The whole encounter between the gang and Napoleon is like something out of an absurdist theater piece.

That soulful rendition of La Marseillaise needs to be immortalised.
