| Chimera Ant has already had a lot of pointless and outright bad padding so far, but this episode is perhaps the most insulting of it all so far. Palm has been a terrible, time-wasting character since her introduction (she's offered literally nothing to the plot), so spending a decent chunk of an episode on Gon "dating" her is just insulting, unnecessary and not even funny to watch. Beyond that, I also really don't like Meruem as a villain so far. His face and voice really don't fit and immediately make it hard for me to take him seriously, and his two-dimensional evil is a huge step down from the more nuanced and intimidating Phantom Troupe and an even bigger step down from Hisoka. Granted, he's still better than Genthru in this regard, but that really isn't saying much when Genthru is just an awful villain to begin with. This arc very obviously did not need to be 61 episodes long when there's already been as much pointless padding as there has been, as well as just fairly languid pacing in general. |
