For all intents and purposes, I'm new to manga. So, basically I'm just looking for your favourites, but if you don't mind considering the following before posting, that would be awesome:

1) Please only recommend 1 to 3 manga. I want to check out a lot of different people's favorites. If I like something you recommend, I will personally ask you for more recommendations.

2) If it's too much effort to check, I totally understand, but try not to recommend things that are on my anime list. I have no intention, at least for now, of reading the manga counterparts of anime I have seen.

3) Try to mix it up in regards to genre and artistic style. I'd love to see three wildly different recommendations. Again, if I happen to like one of them, I will personally ask you for more recommendations in that specific vain.

I think that's it, and thank you in advance!

My favorite list. Check it out. Aside from all being dark and depressing they are different from each other.
I'm also filled with pure-hearted ulterior motives.

Mars - A shoujo manga from the late 1990s that I think anyone can enjoy. It's compelling and refreshing, and the mangaka manages to include just about every romance trope that you might come across in the romance drama (i.e. cliched pairing, racing, tragic pasts, other melodrama), but never in a way where it's "too much." The romance and story as a whole is sweet; it feels genuine and realistic. The artwork is fantastic, too.

Annarasumanara was the first manhwa and first web comic I read. A new experience, but I loved it; everything about the art and layout compliment the story masterfully. It's categorized as romance and that's why I initially chose it, but to me the relationships in the story weren't really romantic but the characters nonetheless had deep bonds between them. A great mystery and coming of age story.

Kuroko no Basuke - I wasn't looking very closely, but I didn't see sports in your lists. Not sure if you like the sports genre or not, but this is a good read. It's based around unrealistic abilities, and a few times the unrealism is a little too unreal, but it's a very entertaining and exciting story. It's plot is pretty standard; a character tries to prove something to his old team, and team aims for the top despite being the underdogs. What makes it special though is the characters. You might end up rooting for every team to win.

Thanks all, just went through everything posted so far. Only added some of the especially intriguing stuff to my PTR, because I don't want to overload myself, but I will be coming back to this thread semi-regularly for sure.

Well, technically 2/3, haha. Goodnight Punpun was the sole manga in my PTR prior to making this thread. Trusted sources recommended it to me yesterday and that's actually what made me decide to get into manga.

REAL
Vinland Saga
Homunculus

I would've recommended Vagabond too, but it and REAL are both by the same author, and since I'm going to recommend another action seinen (Vinland Saga) I though I'd put the SoL Drama about disabled people with some sports (REAL), for variety, and all 3 of them have great art.

Homunculus has a more psychological feel to it, it's one of the examples on how fucked up a manga can reach compared to anime.
