Or should I start watching this in the order it aired?
If it doesn't matter, do you think I would enjoy this series or the sequel more, given that I don't normally watch reverse harems? I'm interested more in the period/historical details/general plot.

edit: nvm. It seems it's not my cup of tea after all.

What was the reason? I hated the first season because of the romance and the silliness with the 'vampirism'. Would you tell me why it's not your cup of tea, so that I could, as a similar opinionated person on the matter, have it in mind as well?

it seems Motion_Menace does not plan to reply on you JustMyself.
I am wondering if by now you have seen all 3 seasons and if so could you tell me if I should start at this prequel or watch the original seasons first?

Bump. Should I watch this in broadcast order or chronologically?

Did you end watching the series? What about that order?

Sadly no, thanks for the reminder :P I watched the first episode of Hakuouki (broadcast order) a while back and put it on hold.

Keep me informed !

You can actually watch it chronological or in airing order, it really doesn't affect the story at all. Reimeiroku explores how the Shinsengumi was like before becoming the actual one. It's more focused on the relationship between the guys and their leader Serizawa and all the conflicts they had because of their different ideologies. The story is told from Ryunosuke
point of view.

I think that by now you already know the answer, still I hope his helps others who are wondering the same

I don't know if anyone is still interested in this thread. I think you could watch them in chronological order, but I think watching the backstory after the main plot does have its pleasures, since you're already familiar with the characters. You get to see how they got where they are after already becoming familiar with them. But you might also enjoy seeing how things got started before Chizuru gets thrown into things. You wouldn't be learning things along with her in quite the same way.
I think you could watch in either order (1,2,3 or 3,1 2) and still understand the story.

Only thing I'll say is season 3 had a better budget than the first 2, so ending on season 3 means you end with the better animation.
