Is this worth watching?

I recently finished watching Darker Than Black, and it turned out to be a new favorite of mine. I also watched the Gaiden because that was the correct order chronologically, but I realize now that it might have had more impact if seen after Ryuusei. Obviously, the Gaiden left me curious about what happens to Yin and Hei afterwards, but I've seen a lot of hate towards Ryuusei. From what I've read, I think this partly because because Ryuusei was confusing without the information given in the Gaiden. The problem is that I don't want to watch something that will ruin the experience of the first season. That might sound strange, but oh well. So what I'm asking is that if I loved the first season, should I watch Ryuusei?

Well, I started watching it. Unless there's a serious drop in quality later, the second season does not get the hate it deserves.

It's good but just kind of out of left field. The story (lol, in dtb?) is in shambles and seems more like the growth of some random girl than the actual problems that Hei and Yin are having. You remember the episode in the first season with the detective, him looking for a cat, he keeps find Hei all over the place? It's basically almost 12 episodes of that. The season really ended up too short for explanations and fell flat on its face for it.

Personally, if you like how the first one ended, just pretend the first episode of gaiden was the last episode, except Hei and Yin just ended up at the resort with no one finding them.

Yes, watch it, but keep in mind it's darker and more bleak than the original season. It's not as 'charming', but I still like the series.

And another thing--I'd watch this BEFORE watching Gaiden. The mystery makes it more enjoyable.

I like both, but actually gave the 2nd season a higher rating.

This. I almost avoided watching this because of naysayers, but did anyways, and am not disappointed that I did. It's different, but not terrible. So far (episode 9), I like it just about as much as the rest of the series.

Depends if you want to see the inclusion of the old cast, or less of the old cast and a lot more randoms.

Personally I didn't like the second season as much as the first, it continues from gaiden so I would recommend to watch it. It's not as horrible as people might portray it as, It just isn't that exciting. I don't think it will ruin the experience that the first gave you, just if you watch it and hate it then if you ever rewatch it again leave out gaiden and gemini.

I honestly don't understand why season two gets so much hate. I found both seasons one and two to be equally enjoyable.
