I think this is one of my favorite episodes of any show, ever. It does such a superb job of typifying everything that Dai-Guard is about.

I think Akagi says it best when remarking on the frustrating environmental conditions:

"I've been watching fighting robot anime my entire life, and never have I encountered anything this pointless. If we could actually fly this thing we'd be done by now."

Dai-Guard is bound by the laws of physics. When the ground is soft, it's easy to trip and fall. When the terrain is rough, the most efficient way to get from point A to point B is to disassemble the robot, load it onto transport vehicles, and fly to the next encounter point. Most of the people involved in the robot fight aren't pilots, and even the pilots don't have that glorious of a job.

Before Dai-Guard, I don't think I'd ever seen a robot fight that was so prolonged that the characters involved complained of hunger pangs. The show is very firmly rooted in reality, and I absolutely love it to death for that.

A lot of the supporting characters really got to shine in this episode; everyone in the PR department seems to have real personality, which is a nice break from shows (both eastern animation and otherwise) where 90% of the office staff are completely nameless and faceless.

Office workers, saving the world.

I guess this will teach them not to put off paying their bills. Though honestly, if it were anyone other than the government pulling this crap, it'd never stand up in a court of law.

If they're stealing the new weapon though, then Black Dai Guard must be almost ready for deployment. Not that I understand what makes it better than the drill (other than reach and speed) its a once off weapon while the drill can do the same thing continuously.

As soon as I feel like we might be starting to step away from the repetitive Dai-Guard is losing, Shirota calls in the army, Akagi gives him a speech, he does his stupid thing, and then wins, it seems Shirota is yet again unwavering and still trying to take Dai-Guard. Hopefully things change up a bit soon, as I'm not the biggest fan at the moment. Still a fun show, but starting to get repetitive.

Shirota's hair color changed at the end of the episode, finally it looks alright.
