So, it's ranked over 8 with over 1000 ratings.. and yet it's still ranked #5430? What's up with that? Normally, if it's over 8 with 1000+ ratings, it would at least hit like top 500..

Also, would you guys recommend this to a guy who's normally into shounen/seinen stuff? It says comedy/josei, so would this be tailor made for like teenage girls? So it's like all pretty boys and love stories? Is there any harem elements with lots of fanservice(for guys, not for girls)..

Do you guys think the high rating for this show all because of fangirls? Would guys like this? Normally i don't mind comedy and i'm open minded(i've read some josei, and i don't mind romance/drama/slice of life etc, like Unbalance X Unbalance, or KGNE, two of my favourite series/anime/manga regardless of genre), but i hate when it's aimed at girls and has all pretty boy bishies and ridiculously cheesy unrealistic cliche love stories. Thanks.

I don't think that there are any pretty boys in Kuragehime. I suppose Kuranosuke's brother could be sort of bishy, but I don't think so. And Kura himself may be a bishy, but we haven't really seen him all that much to tell, or at least I've never bothered to notice.

If a guy likes seinen, not the seinen rawr destroy everything like Berserk, but rather the seinen comedy like Minami-ke, then they'll probably like Kuragehime.

Like most of the shows on Noitamina, it's rather unconventional, so it wouldn't be fair to pidgeonhole it to some label before giving it a fair shake. Also, watch the OP. Particularly if you've seen any movies from the 70s/80s, cause you'll be sure to recognize a tone of the awesome homages.

As far as the ranking goes, I don't think much of the votes go into effect unless they've seen a certain percentage of the show. So since the third episode just aired earlier today, I don't think the ranking system has taken into account any of the votes.

It has so far been a solid three episodes. And I say that as a guy who likes shounen/seinen stuff, but is also able to branch out to anything that has a good story with developed characters.

well the art is not the typical shoujo, where the guys all look the same. And the manga that its based off of actually won an award so...the strength is in the story telling. Now from looking at your list, it would seem like something you would enjoy.

also keep in mind the rankings. this is MAL, and most of the people on MAL are from English speaking countries so the demographic is completely different than what it is in Japan. For instance, if you look at any of the anime shows and which company produces them, you can tell that JC Staff and AIC all produce 'mcdonalds'-like anime. If you want to know what the target audience of the anime is, check its studio. noitamina usually has a sort of cult hit sort of feel to it.

Yeah I wondered why the low rating too. But I think it's a MAL issue or something like that.

Well, to be honest, I feared the josei tag when I first came across this anime after seeing it on the fall poster. But then I was glad I started it because it's very funny. I'm guy who's into comedy. I have watched a few seinen and I liked a few. I'm liking Kuragehime because of the comedy mostly.

No ranking has been changed since last week. There are other shows also having similar problems. I hope it gets fixed.

Just read MAL faq about how they calculate the rankings guys. A fifth of an anime must have been watched for the vote to count, so only those who have seen the third ep and put a note are taken account of.

Thanks for the replies, in particular Henry and Meddigo. I will give it a shot thanks to you guys. I was also worried about the Josei tag too shadowsword hehe.. i don't mind SOME josei, but the ones i have checked out are usually manga, and i can fast forward(skip) past the 'boring' parts, but i am more reluctant to do so when it's anime because i might miss something :p

Something you guys might enjoy.. i am currently watching Togainu no chi or whatever, and it's borderline BL. If it gets any more BL, i will have to drop it, so yeah, i'm pretty open minded lol. I enjoyed Kuroshitsuji or however you spell it, but that's more mystery and has a decent story. Togainu seems to have quite shitty animation, and pretty cliche story, and starting to be more and more BL. Hopefully this returns the favor and saves you guys from watching it lol

Anyway, thanks again.

It's because MAL is broken as usual.

MAL performs a service and it does it fairly well, imo, but that's just me. I would say I'm getting quite a good product for the price I'm paying.

Actually, that's not entirely correct. For any airing show, even if the episode count is set, all votes will count. This is how something like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood jumped so much when it finished airing despite the episode count having been known for a while; all the low raters who dropped it too early were suddenly cut out.

Also, many shows have episode counts set before they begin airing, and even after only one episode they make it into the normal rankings (when MAL isn't broken, at least). Examples: Ore no Imouto, Bakuman.

The current situation is, as others have noted, that MAL is broken and the high scores aren't updating at all.

Sorry to sound like a broken record but I believe the week this show started was that week when stats votes and the like were completely frozen. For some reason even though the rating adjusts now, the ranking does not.

Now this is just unfair, the score is getting better by the day, yet it's still ranked 5430th. it's not an exception though; I've noticed a similar issue with Shiki. Damn MAL problems (>.<)

Well, having in mind that its score atm is 8.52, I'd say it'd be in top 100 if the rankigs weren't malfunctioning. I assume that will be fixed when stats that won't update are fixed which is sometimes in the distant future imo.

P.S.
*fingers crossed for a second season*

Agreed, though josie's generally don't get noticed. :(

The top rated shows on this site are high energy shounen's (my thing) - harem goes hand in hand with shounen, as does:
- fanservice 'pretty', bipolar female characters
- doormat male leads who don't get to develop as a character
- little hint of 'romance' progression
- energetic scenarios
- comedy aimed at the impressionable (violence and ecchi)
All of which aren't really present in this, which will most likely be the reason it hasn't been noticed.
People respond well to the familair.

I didn't find any depth in this series, and it was pretty much held up the entire time by what it introduced at the start. Minimal character development, somewhat irritating side-characters. No character really stands out with a good personality (was gender-bender guy at first, but slowly he became more dull). For me, a better question to ask is why is this ranked so high? Very plain, very basic - good art style though.

I saw the comedy here as almost western-cartooney at times (directed at younger people, which doesn't correlate with the setting) along with constantly feeling too forced.

This so much. I don't see how this series is any different from all the other generic slices of life.
There was actually nothing redeemable about this, imo.

I think this show is highly overrated. I've seen many slices of life much better than this.
Feel free to suggest me new series on my profile or through pm, or send me anything else really and let's have a chat
