Wow, the animation and style is even more exquisite than I expected. It looks even better than Aoi Hana's animation.. So delicate..

This looks really smoother than Aoi Hana. Such a beautiful choice of colours - so soft.
This catches the atmosphere of the Manga perfectly.

Now I really can't wait for the Anime to come out!

Animation looks nice and fluid from what I see.
I love the use of soft colors and watercolor style.
It really does go hand and hand with most of Shimura's works.

For a moment, I was reminded of one of Makoto Shinkai's works (5 Centimeters Per Second)....
Curse the overused yet still beautiful symbolism that is associated with the falling of cherry blossom petals!

First of all, slightly off-topic rant, but the comments for this on AnimeTake are atrocious. It's either people going on about how awesome traps are, or people facepalming because it's not a comedy series (because no, actually, it's not about traps or reverse traps, it's about two children with gender dysmorphia. There's a huge difference. Asswipe.) If people aren't making one of these two comments, usually they just sound like they're disgusted with the idea of transexuality. There's a couple of positive comments fro manga readers, but it's a huge minority.

-ahem.- Secondly.

THIS LOOKS FANTASTIC OMGGGGGGG. -fangirls-

I'm amazingly happy that they have this style for the anime. It looks so identical to the colour portions of the manga and it's perfect for this series. I wonder how they're gonna take it and make it different from the manga as well though, because this'll be either a 13 or 24 ep run probably. o3o I mean, this series has a lot of heavy issues in it so however the viewers take it will probably be how the animators decide to extend or shorten it.

For some reason, I can't see this series being any longer than 13 episodes.
Extending it to 24 episodes seems like it would be a seriously risky move on the studio's side.
If they do extend it/give it a second season, it will be due to substantial enough ratings and viewers.

Just watched the preview for this. Previously, I didn't even know it was getting an anime.

Being my favourite manga, I would have already had high expectations, but the preview has gotten me really excited. I don't think I've ever had as much anticipation as I have for this anime.

As already stated, the watercolour effect is amazing. The VAs fit the characters. It also looked quite dramatized, which will fit the atmosphere of the original work quite well. Being a drama, it also seems that it will take the themes of the original work seriously.

I just hope that such a great preview doesn't backfire on them, as hourou musuko is not an action and can have some slow parts... which they appear to be keeping from the looks of the preview. But from the looks of things, serious watchers who follow it all of the way through and don't mind the slice of life feeling from time to time will be able to enjoy the atmosphere of the original manga, and for that I'm glad.

I just can't wait.

/end fanboyism with a bad attempt at making a useful post

I much preferred the Aoi Hana style and character designs. The attempt at watercolour-ish animation here comes off as a bit too glossy, and the character design itself (esp. faces) looks amateur-ish sometimes. I don't think it has much similarity with Shimura's watercolour style, and I'll be surprised if they can keep it up with such smooth animation and detail, i.e. I'm afraid they might be biting off more than they'll turn out to be able to chew since the budget for this niche series surely isn't THAT big.. hmm.

Major issue I take: Takatsuki still looks too feminine compared to the manga.

However, they could be doing much worse, and I knew from the start that AIC is no JC Staff, so it's not much of a disappointment. Plus the voices are great.

I'll be watching this. AIC is good in my book, and they generally turn out high production quality.
