still not something I'd watch in the hands of pretty much any other director but man Ueno is on fire with this - it's gorgeous and quietly unsettling at the same time while maintaining a tension that makes the episode feel way shorter than it is I caught myself thinking "wait, that's it for this week - where's the rest of it?" at the end

mishiro is a very good player, which yuuki admits
she has insane reflexes and is always wary of danger
this ends up, though, in her ignoring yuuki's probably reasonable advice due to mistrust
landmines, though simple, are awful and i was in genuine fear this entire episode
pretty cool landscape though

So, either this is a flashback episode, or she is lying to them about how many games she's played. Either way, very interesting.

I kinda hope for dumb blonde to die 🤞🏼 I think she'll get what's coming to her, in the next episode.

This was an interesting episode but kind of a letdown after the first episode, though it would be difficult to keep that pace throughout the entire season. It's crazy the positions these games put these girls in. I would've thought that since the leader girl distrusted Yuki so much she would have made her lead.

I will say the way it ended has me looking forward to next episode to see if she actually gives up her light and to see if there are any of the girls that want to go with Yuki. And if they do split does the entire non-Yuki team get wiped out?

Or I could see them all getting wiped except the wanna be leader because like Yuki inferred before she seems like she would use the others up to make sure she survived.

More of the same; the cotton replacing the blood absolutely ruins the entire anime.

Genuinely the shortest feeling episode I've watched in a really long time. Holy crap, that flew by!

Makes me wonder what would happen to Konota at the end of the game, if she is still technically alive but didn't escape. Like does someone come along and just 'finish the job' or something?

It’s only the second episode and I still have no idea what the numbers actually mean. I really hope they eventually explain it properly because it’s starting to bug me.

We already know Yuki is going to survive since this is only her 10th match, but I’m still curious how many others are going to make it through. Honestly, I doubt it’ll be many. This series is not pulling its punches so far.

@G_Spark233 The numbers counting up throughout the episode? Ends at 9 this episode, I think people said that those are the chapters from the novel that the scenes were adapted from

Do we know what's going on with the ticking numbers on the screen? The X/33 this episode and, I think it was, X/24 last episode. Yuki said near the beginning of episode 1 the games aren't timed; she could be lying, but I doubt it. I thought it might have something to do with a death count, but I don't see a correlation manifesting. I don't have any other ideas.

I'm still figuring out the symbolism in 04:00 mark. We have:
- wolf, owl, mouse, penguin in one box
- donkey and ghost outside of the box

Why need to be separated like that? Hmmmm.

@Zadion I've seen others say that they correlate to the chapters from the light novel that the scenes were adapted from

@R_sei_ Remember the last line in the episode? Something around Yuki becomes a ghost now cause everyone’s alienating her? She’s the ghost now. She’ll be outside. Question is: who’s the donkey?

@Ghosteen_18 I'm speculating. Donkeys are often depicted as obstinate, and sometimes foolish in Asian culture. I suspect it might be the 1st girl that died.

The 2nd girl, timid, seems like the mouse. Mishiro may be the wolf...

Hoping the show subverts my assumptions.

Decent episode, but I’m really confused. I don’t get what’s going on. First and foremost, was Yuki actually lying, or is Mishiro just an idiot? Second, what did Yuki mean when she said the girls didn’t understand the game at all? Because by the end, I was honestly on Mishiro’s side.

@PokefanPT ixtepp in this forum says that its intentional for the timer to be that way and that it'll be explained, but i don't know why that's the case yet

Hmmm, that's interesting then, I wonder what's up with it. Curious to know more about that in tomorrow's episode!

OHH DAMNNNN. WHY IS THIS SOOO GOOOOODDDDD. Since the very first minute of the first episode I knew that this was going to be soo peak. I really like this. Ok, so there’s going to be time-skips between episodes, I like that. I hate that Blondie Megadrills, she’s so arrogant. Atp everyone is going to die but Yuki.

this time, it felt better for me and even more interesting...
Life's too short for mid anime/manga. Don't like it? Drop it.

Fall in love to name Kokuto / 黒糖, literally black sugar — unrefined cane sugar from Ryukyu close to muscovado/demerara, so delicious, vibrant & exotic.

This anime still looks cheap BUT only visually - in other aspects it feels high quality and interesting.
I love the deathmatch genre and i really enjoyed watching this episode.

The vibe remains the same, but it feels like the influence of classic aesthetics has diminished.
This particular episode had more horror-inspired vibe, but those are just details, overall i still really like the aesthetics of this anime.

And i specially like its slow pace and calmness - btw atypical for the deathmatch genre.

Characters can die at any moment but they behave extremely calmly and theres no blood or guro here - characters are like dolls who, when they die, dont actually die, they just... become useless.
Amazing symbolism.

I watched this episode with headphones and the sound is amazing - you should definitely try listening to this anime carefully.
The characters voices echoing, water drips onto iron and in the silence only footsteps can be heard.
The lack of music amplify all sounds, in the silence they sound louder and clearer.

In this episode appeared opening and ending and tbh i didnt like both.
Opening is too pop for the vibe of this anime and highway with cars in poor 3D doesnt suit it.
Ending song is decent, but i wish it had a more anime art style.
