Bold practices which often endanger lives

Some people chase wholesome. Others chase the kind of thrills that practically shake hands with death. For reasons we may never fully understand, humans keep inventing pleasure that looks suspiciously like a survival test and then brag about doing it more than once.

Consider:
• Gladiators who fought for public amusement.
• Russian roulette, a pastime built on the gamble of a single fatal shot.
• Hunting that focuses on predators capable of killing their hunters.
• Extreme mountain ascents involve total physical and mental depletion.
• Cave divers squeezing into water-filled voids where errors are almost never survivable.

I wanted to know if there are other instances like these happening in non-fiction, purely for thrill or spectacle, far from miscalculations or equipment failures. You can speculate about space-related activities that might still be extremely dangerous even under strict regulation.
