| The Akaza's Return movie provided a lot of details regarding Akaza (obviously, lol), i.e. the story behind his tattoos and how they were not a mere design choice. But these were not all interesting things related to him as a character. Obviously, I will write stuff that happens in a movie, so don't read it if you haven't seen it yet. No spoiler bracket, 'cause it's been a while since the movie's premiere in Japan, and several days after it started appearing in the cinemas outside of Japan. If you haven't noticed it while watching the movie or reading the manga, a cool fact about Akaza is how his techniques are referring to the period of his human life he cherished the most. And I'm not only talking about his Soryu Style techniques here. Many of Akaza's attack moves were named after fireworks and effects they made, as if his promise to Koyuki and him going out with her to see those fireworks at last, resonated throughout all these years, despite him having lost his memories. Speaking about Koyuki, remember Akaza's fancy Combat Needle thing? It's not just a mere snowflake-shaped effect. It's a subconscious tribute to a hairpin worn by Koyuki, and also her name (Koyuki = 恋雪, and 雪 kanji in 恋雪, yuki, means snow). All of that makes his PTSD even more tragic, but we mustn't assume that it purifies all crimes he committed as a demon by default. |

| There are also author notes from the extra chapters on how the poisoning happened: - Rival Dojo Heir was inlove with Koyuki - He forcefully took Koyuki outside against her will. - She was frail and sick and he couldn't handle her, so he abandoned Koyuki and fled. - Akaza found her a in a near-dead state and brought her back to the Dojo - Master was furious after finding out. He arranged a fight against the other Dojo. - Akaza crushed them all on his own and told them to never mess with them again. - Rival Dojo Heir was angered by Akaza's words and used a real sword and swung it towards Akaza - Akaza broke the sword by punching it from the sides (how he did against Giyu) - Rival Dojo admitted defeat after witnessing such skill - Few years pass, Rival Dojo disbanded and was still bitter about what happened. - They poisoned the well, since they knew they can't win against Akaza head-on. - Rest of story. |
