Wow, what a way for Jinya to get himself a kid, back in like episode 8 or so, I suspected that he paired with Ofuu or something when they said he "had a child" during the play, welp, guess I was wrong.

I'm quite disappointed that Jinya is now slaying demon without doing investigation or interrogation first. But at least the author is kind enough to make him not being the one in the wrong side here. But please don't do it next time.

What a fucking episode. This series never fails to get me emotional. Yunagi may not have liked kids, but she was an amazing mother in the short time she was with that child and her love will live on forever.

The way I thought I must’ve skipped an episode or something when they said Jinya had a wife and kid 😭 then I started piecing things together and figured it was some sort of illusion, but man this is yet another episode that makes me feel awful Jinya didn’t get to marry and grow old with Shirayuki. This was basically the sort of life he would’ve had with her.. also made me miss Natsuki, I forgot about the falling out with Jinya.. hopefully she comes back in this story at some point.

Jinya becoming a dad is honestly perfect for him. He’s lost so much and basically become a killing machine so having a child to raise will help restore some of that humanity he’s lost over the years. It’ll also be an opportunity for him to truly start moving forward from all the pain. It’s gonna be sad knowing he’ll far outlive her tho :/

I mean, I don't think there's much room for investigation or interrogation if your opponent is a giant beat that attacks you unprompted.

That explains who the kid in the OP is, I don't think I've seen a major character development since ep6.

What with the animation drop?

Maybe they over-estimated the budget and time for a back to back cour?

@KOTFTW I wouldn't say the animation has really dropped, we've had a couple episodes earlier on that were a little iffy too. I'm fairly sure what's happening is Yokohama is currently right on the edge with the production, it would certainly explain why some episodes look better than others as some are more finished than others.

If not then QC just didn't do their job, either way it wouldn't shock me as Yokohama currently has a pretty large track record of production issues and rushed episodes/delays.

This one actually made me tear up. Damn, I'll miss Yusanagi even though I saw her for no more than 20 minutes.

I actually wasn’t very into this one, mainly because it was obvious from the beginning that this was all some alternate world and Yunagi wasn’t real, I was pretty much just waiting for Jinya to realize what’s going on and break out of it. I also didn’t care much for Yunagi as a character, so her departure at the end didn’t make me feel anything, but I did like the aspect that Jinya was seeing this as the life he could have had with Shirayuki, that made all this feel cathartic in a way.

But one thing was real in this illusionary world, and it was the baby (I thought the baby was kinda ugly tho lol), Jinya came out of this with an actual daughter, I was hoping this was through Ofuu or someone else but adopting an abandoned kid is nice too, I’m looking forward to seeing how she becomes part of this story.

@TheColonel76 Fr, we’ve known for a while that he somehow “had a kid” and the new opening shows it too but this wasn’t really what I was thinking either.

I’m still crossing fingers for Ofuu, I don’t mind if she doesn’t end up paired with Jinya, in fact it might even be better if she doesn’t. But I gotta say that she’s probably my favorite character in this show alongside Akitsu, I really hope she plays an important role somewhere going forward.

@MewsicMagic I agree on Ofuu, she’s probably one of my favorites as well, she’s just so sweet and her moments with Jinya have been great, I’d also like her to be plot relevant again but I just hope it’s not because of some kind of tragedy occurring, but I wouldn’t doubt it knowing this show lol.

@TheColonel76 On the one hand I wouldn't want Ofuu to die because she's my favorite character from this show, on the other hand, if the death is actually done really well I can't exactly complain because stories can't be written well by intentionally handicapping itself by not wanting to do something.

I'm actually more interested in seeing the end of Ofuu's "father" I noticed that he clearly has more wrinkles on him compared to the last event 9ish years ago. It might just be for realism sake since nearly all characters aged a bit, but it still makes me wonder if his age is gonna get to em, or if he'll die, though I think age probably the more realistic end for him.

That is one dangerously powerful technique, to basically make someone hallucinate and deceive them emotionally to believe it's real by using their own memories in the process.
Makes me wonder how Jinta will end up using it in the future.

@MewsicMagic Age will eventually get every human character in this show, so I guess the question would be will something else get them before age does, but yeah I’m thinking we might see Sadanaga’s end soon since he is a pretty old fella already.

This show continues to surprise me with it's depth of character and clever use of narrative. I thought it was just going to be a generic Samurai show but it's been quite good.

Another amazing episode. I knew Jinya would have a kid, but not like this lol. I love that we got to understand Yanagi and why she put him in the illusion and it's awesome that Jinya let it ride out to fully understand the demon.

Genuinely, GENUINELY, if they just delayed this for at least 1 more year. This would be a generational show. Like y'all need to watch Aiura (from the same director), and compare it to this to realize just how fucked the production of this show is.

Any issues with it have never detracted from my own enjoyment of it.

I think you're overestimating the effect of increased budget or production time or both or whatever (in terms of its impact on notoriety for a series like this on MAL and elsewhere - a series that's not connected to a big popular franchise), because the series would still be likely receiving many of the same complaints regardless which it does from its critics in the individual episode discussion threads regularly, of it being slow, too episodic, boring, etc. And many of those who watch and like it and disagree with and reject those criticisms, such as myself, don't really care all that much about how fluid or not a particular 20 second clash of swords by a canal is or other technical issues, and are mainly here for the writing.

I'd only scrutinize and harp on any fault in the animation and visual-technical side if it had literally nothing else going for it (writing, voice acting, direction, music, etc.), at which point it would already have long lost me even if it was objectively the most technically well-produced work in history.

That was beautiful, made my heart ache.

I realized it midway through that Yuunagi did sound a little like Shirayuki (Saori Hayami). Not sure if it was intentional, but it felt like Yuunagi was copying Jinya's memories of her voice (or Jinya was just projecting her onto Yuunagi), and it really added to the dialogue scenes.
