Do i need to watch Initial D First Stage before MF Ghost, or is there no connection just same universe type thing ?

It’s a direct sequel to initial D with new characters and old characters make appearances here and there

There is a connection, but there's no need to have seen Initial D to follow the story.

You would understand all the little hints to the past better, resp. this would make MF Ghost more enjoyable.

You don't need to watch it but you'll miss the references to the old drivers. Even if you did watch it now though they don't feel as special because there aren't decades between watching the shows airing.

There will be some drivers you wont know who they are unless you have watched Initial D but do as you like.

But I would personally suggest trying out Initial D before MF Ghost. It might not be right to call it "better" but most people who've watched both series would say Initial D is heaps better. And Initial D is finished as well while MF Ghost is still ongoing.

Also: Weird fan service in MF ghost that was quite annoying, I did not like that at all. But even then, always watch what you want to watch. You dont have to listen to a guy like me, if you want to watch MF Ghost then feel free to do so because you might enjoy it more than I did
