The Haikyuu!! 10th Event: Next Step announced on Sunday that the second part of the two-part sequel movie, titled Haikyuu!! Movie: vs. Chiisana Kyojin, is currently in production. The official website also revealed a super teaser promo and super teaser visual (pictured).

Susumu Mitsunaka (Haikyuu!! Karasuno Koukou vs. Shiratorizawa Gakuen Koukou) is returning from the first part to direct and pen the second part at Production I.G.

The event also announced a special short television anime titled Haikyuu!! Bakemono-tachi no Iku Tokoro, focusing on the Spring High quarter final match between Fukuroudani Academy, led by Koutarou Bokuto, and Mujinazaka High, featuring Wakatsu Kiryuu. The match takes place at the same time as Karasuno High's match against Kamomedai High, which will be depicted in Haikyuu!! Movie: vs. Chiisana Kyojin.

The first part of the two-part movie, Haikyuu!! Movie: Gomisuteba no Kessen (Haikyu!! Movie: The Dumpster Battle), opened in Japan in February 2024, grossing over 11.64 billion yen (approx. US$77.28 million).

Haikyuu!! adapts Haruichi Furudate's volleyball manga, which launched as a one-shot in Shounen Jump NEXT seasonal magazine in January 2011. Weekly Shounen Jump published a second one-shot in April 2011, where it began regular serialization in February 2012. The manga ended its eight-year-run in July 2020. Shueisha published the 45th and final volume in November 2021. Haikyuu!! has a cumulative 70 million copies of its volumes in circulation.

Production I.G produced the first three seasons in Spring 2014, Fall 2015, and Fall 2016. The fourth season, Haikyuu!!: To the Top, aired in split cours in Winter and Fall 2020. The manga also inspired four compilation films between July 2015 and September 2017.

After the Dumpster Battle movie, is this final FINAL movie going to be able to cover the entire rest of the manga?

Or are they more likely to cut it short somehow, likely by leaving out big chunks of the story?

@perseii At this point, we're not sure anymore if it's the final of the anime, the notion "FINAL" is not here anymore on the website and with this mini season, we can hope a 3rd movie or last series for the very and really end.

@JaysonNnN agreed, it’s straight up not possible to finish up with a handful of movies
and honestly? the actual end of the series deserves the movie treatment too
tentatively hopeful

I was under the impression that they would wrap up the entire rest of the story in 2 movies when that announcement was first made, but it looks like this 2nd movie won't be doing that. I wonder if the post-tournament stuff will also get its own movie. I hope so.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

Take me back to the days before MAL became infested with Twitter's favorite buzzwords.

I really, really liked the movie so I’m hoping for more of that good quality! I’m also looking forward to seeing Bokuto in action again!

It made them so much cash they realized that would be foolish to rush it, when they can just go at a better pacing, please everyone more and make more money out of it, GENIUS.

@MironBiron
Technically It shouldn't really matter which order you watch them in, as the Fukuroudani vs Mujinazaka match happens during the same time as the Karasuno vs Kamomedai match, so the events of one don't really impact the other, narratively.
But I would watch the movie last, personally, since Karasuno vs Kamomedai is the second of the plot's dual climaxes (the first being Karasuno vs Nekoma) and a hugely important part of the overall story.

I just found out about this :o I'm so out of the loop. But I just finished my first full reread of the manga since it ended, and when I was looking for info on the first movie, I saw the article about this! I'm so excited that the Kamomedai match will be animated after all.
