To counter-balance the all-new political thread, here's what I hope will be a really harmless thread. I know that there are people trowing away the pasta water, and others that keep it to reuse it for other recipes. What is your take on this? I personally throw it away.

throwing all water is fascist, you should use a bit of it to thicken the sauce

no, still one of the better definitions of fascism I've seen today though

Never considered drinking pasta water so far, it's always poured away.
No, this isn't my signature.

As has been said, it is better to use some of it to thicken your sauce and make sure it sticks to the pasta, thanks to the starch on the water.

@Gween_Gween Is it really fascism if throwing the water was democratically chosen by all members of a household?

Just cook pasta in whatever else you are cooking then it absorbs all the sauce.

What!? I never said anything about drinking it! It's mostly used to thicken sauces or if you want to make bread with it.

Oh really @fleurbleue? I usually save some and put it back in during my pasta recipes, but I didn't realize it adds to the pasta sauce. Thanks for the tip!

Pasta, huh? Do you have a problem with non-American/European cuisine?

@fleurbleue I don't know how to bake good bread and I'm not gonna make a liter of sauce for each load of pasta, besides adding water thins down a sauce, to thicken it needs to contain less water.

I personally think keeping pasta water is disgusting, and reusing it is unAmerican. Probably.

I have no enemies so I throw it away, otherwise I would load it into a water pistol and shoot my enemies down, never let them know your next move.

I'm worse. I don't own a stockpot, so I use a frying pan and there's barely any water when doing it that way, so I just toss the water down the sink afterwards. Reminds me that I do have spaghetti that I should be making... Probably will do that today.

I do throw most of it away but i save a cup for said pasta dish. I hear it makes the sauce and the pasta mix better
My waifu is the most wonderful waifu. Mai Valentine.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

Does it mean that throwing away the water is a patriotic gesture? Do you make a salute while pouring the water?

@fleurbleue No I was thinking more around the reuse thing. Reusing dirty water when more clean water is readily available

@SuperAdventure Now that I think about it, the Americans in the ISS continually reuse and filter their urine to make water, so it is not totally unAmerican to reuse dirty water (but calling pasta water dirty is kinda mean to the pasta though).

@fleurbleue Well they're on the ISS so they get a pass
And anyway, the water we all drink is technically re-filtered from piss anyway, so I don't know.

I do not hav bad feelings against pasta, I love it and make it constantly. But pasta water is ick, I even skim off the white froth that floats on top.
I don't go so far as rinsing the noodles (I guess that's a thing with some people) but reusing the cloudy water YUCK! No way.

I throw away the pasta water as I season the pasta water with a bit of tomato paste. This must be said, I'm absolutely not a fan of al dente texture in pasta, so it's better for me to make oil and hard cheese-based pasta dishes.

I already said I do that, @fleurbleue, after I'm done boiling the pasta, I save some of the water from the colander and use that pasta water to add to the broth if it's too dry or would benefit from extra sauce. That's how I usually like to make pasta for the past year or two, anyway ^_^

Throwing away your pasta water is wasteful and strange. I save my pasta water and bathe in it like a normal person.

I throw most of it away, just leaving a enough in to spread the sauce better.

People actually keep their pasta water? Weird. Only time I use pasta water is when I'm making carbonara.
