Why is the whole anime (except the end credit) in 21:9 (cinematic aspect ratio)?

TV anime are mostly in 16:9, but this one is mostly 21:9 (I know the video is actually 16:9 with black bars, but you get what I mean), except the end credit for some reason. Is there any reason behind this decision? (And why is the ED suddenly 16:9 btw?)

artistic choice to make it cinematic like already said

lots of old anime movies do have horizontal black bars too if that is what youre asking since i have not seen this anime

but try watching it on a 21:9 display monitor im almost sure the black bars will be gone

Yes, but the subtitles would be messed up 😂
Also, most mobile devices have a 20:9 screen ratio, so two thin black bars will still remain (sorry for the fuss 😅)

It’s a mix between making the episode having a more cinema-like feel and to have a more subtle focus on distance and the philosophy of being “normal” from my observations. The aspect ratio helps to distance the camera from our main leads, which leads to them blending in more with the surrounding environment. That’s why whenever a close-up happens, it becomes more significant as whoever is the target subject will be the center of focus from the close-up, countering the previously mentioned philosophy.

it actually looks great like that, the artwork and animations are top notch and the cinematic format is the cherry on top of the cake

I think they're going for a cinematic look for the rest of the show, as evident from the aspect ratio combined with the animation and cinematography (with the lighting and the framing among other elements) an example of this is the opening scene of episode 2.

When watching on 21:9 you get the typical black bars on the sides from 16:9 content, and black bars on the top and bottom from this being 21:9. You basically just watch it zoomed out with black bars on every side.

Watching this show on phone is actually pleasant, since every phone now are 21:9.
