Anime's impact on global perceptions of Japanese identity is undeniable, as it has helped to shape how Japan and its people are viewed on the world stage. By showcasing diverse narratives, settings, and characters, anime challenges stereotypes and offers a more nuanced understanding of Japanese society. Additionally, anime's popularity has led to increased interest in Japanese language and culture, driving tourism and cultural exchange initiatives that further strengthen Japan's global presence.

Thoughts?

Enough for us westoids to make memes how we come to Japan and suddenly people around talk without subtitles.
Blackโ˜…Rock Shooter (TV) is beyond its time arthouse fantasy/psychological drama/psychological horror/action. Should you watch it? See my review.

The youth would be ready to go to war for Japan if it means they keep their cartoons.

Well, yes it does all those things... and Japan can claim that, by being extremely generous.

But it also reflects some less desirable attributes of their culture- such as the fetishization of y____ girls and overtly sexual situations that involve underage characters- even in circumstances where they are stated aged above 16, they are drawn to appear much younger. That's not a great advertisement of one's culture.

Every season and nearly every poster of most every new anime advertises a young girl in sexually provocative outfits; and the way the girls are portrayed (in some shows) with leering camera angles and entirely from male perspective that focuses on their nether regions, skin, etc.... what are Normies gonna think of that. I know you don't care- but you asked the question^

I always realize whenever the thought comes up of how the rest of the world outside the fandom would see anime, this is what they would see and most people (normies) would be repulsed.

Even things like maid cafes and the cosplay & fetish shops in Akihabara.... it is Japan openly advertising to the world that they're a bunch of freaks; and I definitely know most of the boomer generation, which is my parents generation, after seeing just a few anime they would cast a suspicious eye on the Land of the Rising Sun.

It does show quite a bit on its culture especially since most shows are set there, much more then shows representing their own country in other places and how big anime is, Which can show a range of topics such as more local sports to even the brutal work life its infamous for, grounded.

Though some areas such as high schools are sugar coated to make it more whimsical and less well... A stress hub

However the rise a tourists is quite disruptive towards the culture, as many sacred rules and places, not really represented are bleached quite commonly

I completely agree. Anime does a great job of reflecting Japanese culture and society, offering insights into daily life, traditions, and social issues that might not be widely known otherwise. Its influence on global perceptions is significant, as it introduces people to Japanese language, customs, and values in an engaging way. This has definitely driven more interest in Japan, boosting tourism and fostering cultural exchanges. Anime not only entertains but also educates, breaking down stereotypes and giving a more nuanced view of Japan to the world.

It both is and isn't a reflection of Japan.
Anime is essentially what Japanese would LIKE to be: independent, free-spirited, strong, fulfilled in life. A lot of real life Japanese lives (especially when it comes to men) are anything but this: you wageslave for a company, work long days for five, sometimes even six days a week, no vacations, nothing.
Hot Blood saves lives.

No more than superhero movies and comics are a reflection of American culture.
