Is Itachi in your top 10 favorite Naruto characters or no?

Is Itachi in your top 10 favorite characters in Naruto or do you think he's overrated?

Very low in the top 10, but sure.

As someone who watched Naruto fairly recently, I have to say that he doesn't hold up in a weird, meta way.

It's not that Itachi is a bad character. There are just a lot of better written characters than him in Naruto. But all the hype surrounding him makes someone like me, who doesn't know anything, have very high expectations.

In the end, though, his arc is very expected and guessable, which leaves a bad taste in your mouth due to all the hype.

That's my biggest problem with Itachi. People almost worship him, but his character isn't THAT amazing. He's just good. Kakashi, Sasuke, Pain, Naruto, Gaara, Obito, etc. are just much more well written and unique.

He is top 1, I always had a liking for character archetypes like that of itachi, tragic heroes whose journey puts at question the very essence of our existence, like how itachi's decision to slaughter the clan puts at question the essence of morality, was itachi right in his decision? To sacrifice few to save more? Or was he wrong? Could there have been any other way or is war an inevitability in the end? This sort of character archetype also succeeds at delivering an answer to some questions, wether that answer is right or not that we don't know, but Itachi's journey does answer a fundamental question, is love worth killing for, sacrificing for, destroying for, torture for, suffer for? And Itachi's journey seems to affirm that yes, despite all the suffering that he went through and caused Itachi died with a smile on his face not regretting his journey to protect Sasuke and the Leaf. Itachi is a type of character that i have a very strong liking for, that is why not even Sasuke or Naruto or Pain topple him, all of them have their admirable traits aswell but Itachi stood out to me the most.

He’s in my top 3 & top 3 anime characters in general , his final goodbye to Sasuke (I will love you always) was the first time I fully shed tears to an anime, I’m a huge fan of ambiguous characters in general but in my personal opinion it was executed within Itachi the best. I also loved his backstory, him almost being nihilistic at such a young age. I can ramble on & on about how much I love Itachi but to keep this concise I’ll stop here

Exactly my thoughts. Like yeah his backstory was great and a great character but really overhyped for me

understandable opinion. But I'm pretty sure people love him not for the quality of writing, but for badassery and likeability. As in, yes you can predict it, but his story is still tragic.

I can barely think of 10 characters I like in Naruto, so yeah, he would be in the top ten at least, if not top 5.
