It integrates comfy iyashikei-like travel sequences into its plot well. Also has some action elements but I think it enhances the vibe rather than detracting. best sequel anime: - Uma Musume: Pretty Derby Season 3 nothing will be quite as emotional as Season 2 but Season 3 is very solid and a great watch every week. Love watching these uma girls try their best and strive for victory! surprise: - Bokura no Ame-iro Protocol This show looked really low budget and cheap and I almost skipped it but it ended up really wholesome with some fun characters and interesting plots. Do it for Mio! Honourable mentions to Ikenai and Yuzuki Yonkyoudai for also impressing me beyond what I expected from them. character: Mia Luna Tearmoon She captured my heart in her quest to not have Sion capture her head. Cute little angel who tries her best and comedically flukes her way thru many situations. OP: Happy End Princess - OP from Tearmoon Teikoku Monogatari: Dantoudai kara Hajimaru, Hime no Tensei Gyakuten Story Performed by Sumire Uesaka there was a crazy high amount of really really good OPs this season but hearing Sumire Uesaka absolutely crush this super cute song in character just ended me. I knew from the first time I heard it, this is an all-timer. Easy choice despite fierce competition for 2nd place. ED: Queen of the Night - ED from Tearmoon Teikoku Monogatari: Dantoudai kara Hajimaru, Hime no Tensei Gyakuten Story Performed by KanoeRana EDs were generally not as good as OPs this season as is normally the case. Tearmoon's ED stood out among the pack tho, I loved the visuals and the song is beautiful with hopeful lyrics about trying your best. Brings a tear to my eye. Loved it. CGDCT: Hoshikuzu Telepath A stellar Manga Time Kirara adaptation that captures the CGDCT ethos perfectly. Just the right amount of drama to help the characters grow personally and grow their relationships with eachother. I love rockets <3 |

| Watched Non-sequels : 16bit Sensation: Another Layer / Hoshikuzu Telepath / Tearmoon Empire Sequels : Kanojo mo Kanojo Season 2 / Spy x Family Season 2 / Uma Musume: Pretty Derby Season 3 Best non-sequel anime No other than Hoshikuzu Telepath. Lead by one of the most adorable and cute girl you'll ever see, this show was adorable and heartwarming in every way. Altough drama was a bit too much present, it was usuallly handled well and seeing these girls smile at the end of the day was one of the most blanket-squeezing experience ever. Speaking of girls, they all were such cuties and really complemented each other very well, it's just too bad we didn't get as much focus on Akeuchi compared to the others. Best sequel While not as impressive as its predecessor, Uma Musume still held the quality you'd expect from this franchise and came with its own charming moments and exciting races. Really liked the Kitasan-Nice Nature dynamic too, wish they would have shown more of that. Best character At this point I think I just have a purple hair addiction, because the moment I saw Umika I knew she was the one. Her design, her voice, her funny faces, her diligence despite her struggle, everything about her was cuter than the last. She really is the chairwoman we deserved. Honorable mention to Anne and Matataki for, well, obvious reasons Best OP Tearmoon without a single doubt. Mia saying desu wa while opening her arms to me every week was the best way to start a anime watching experience, it's as simple as that. Oh yeah, having a few seconds of just Mia's funny faces also pretty much sealed the deal. Best ED Another pretty simple award, this time for Uma Musume, as nothing could beat having the entire spica team, and especially Teio, wearing such syaroblushy cheerleader outfits. | watched: everything except Bokura no Ame-iro Protocol Best non-sequel Anime: It's admittedly unfair to all other shows that Sousou no Frieren started airing this season, as it's my best anime of 2023 and favourite show since Yuru Camp's second season and movie. And as long as it remains #1 in MAL rating, I am unusually energised in giving more such thought-provoking anime and games a try. Best sequel Anime: Competition between SxF and horses, and while the first gave me several memorable character elements, it took a safe route. Uma Musume: Pretty Derby Season 3, while also not taking the biggest risks, came sprinting with its usual zest and featured my favourite horse girl Kitasan Black in prominent light throughout its runtime; talk about a carry (that training arc episode was so good) Positive Anime Surprise: Migi to Dali, easily. Coming completely out of left field, a mystery was created that mixed simple and logical elements in a fashion that kept me glued without any trouble. Best Character: Frieren, Haruno, Mia and Anya have all been sweet, but yeah, I'm just too biased to give this vote to anyone other than Kitasan Black. Best OP: Nnnnng, too hard to choose. Telepath, MigiDali, Tearmoon, they all deserve my vote equally; which is why I decide to abstain from voting here and looking forward to how others make it shape out. Best ED: A lot of above average entries here. Thinking back of which one truly made me immerse the most in music, video, storyline, everything, this has to go to Sousou no Frieren's "Anytime Anywhere". Best CGDCT Anime: Uma Musume: Pretty Derby Season 3, the only eligible show here that I both watched and enjoyed noticeably. |
