okay hear me out: there are some shows like cyberpunk edgerunners or cowboy bebop that i'd like to watch in the Dub but the thing is i have had some hearing problems lately that made it difficult for me to catch on everything without subtitles. Is there a way to watch shows in dub but with english subtitles. i know netflix has subtitles for their shows but not all the platforms do that.

It's possible, but good luck trying to find Anime with subtitles that actually matches what exactly is being spoken accurately even dubbed (mainly because they are likely very rare to exist). One reason why I dislike watching Anime with subtitles on is the fact that almost all subs don't accurately articulate what is actually being spoken all the time in Japanese.

@ColourWheel yeah but wouldn't it be easier to cc a dubbed audio? it's not so much about the translation part because it's already been done by the localisation team (even though their choices are almost always questionnable) than just speech to text.

Dual audio torrents let you put subs on top of the dub, but generally the two translations will be different since subs and dubs have different priorities. Netflix has a useful feature where for some languages (English and Japanese mainly, sometimes Spanish and other popular languages) they'll have regular subtitles in addition to closed caption subtitles which transcribe the dub, which means people who want more accurate subtitles have it available but people who want dubs with subs can also have that, but closed captions aren't that common and I haven't even seen any torrents offer that as a feature.

@Rocknblock

Close caption is even less reliable when not only is there a delay in the text going across the screen but often times there will be missing dialogue simply because CC never accurately picked it up to begin with.

Hm well you can run English subtitles with an English dub but the people who translate subtitles and dubs are separate teams who do it differently so there will be some cases of mismatch. I assume Netflix If they have anything to do with the dub and sub they would make it the same though. Otherwise you'd have to see if it has closed captioning (which sometimes you can modify to have same style as subtitles). Also depends what you mean by other platforms. Anything hard coded you wont be able to change anything, only soft coded subs where they are running the file for subs separately can you toggle on and off wherever, there even are sites you can download only the subtitle files. So in other words you can do this easier pirated torrent stuff.

If there is some show you cant find a match I assume there might be a program somewhere that would produce a guess at what the audio is using Whisper AI.

You might also want to look into open ear bone conducting headphones. For people without hearing problems the audio is not very good like cheap headphones but i heard people with hearing problems it actually is good quality compared to other things. Problem is higher volumes kind of tickle. I have a pair so I know it feels funny if the volume is up.

@traed Thank you thas was actually really helpfull. I already of those specific headphones but i was told they are degrading your hearing even faster and i don't want to do that. I will definitely search up some websites with soft coded subtitles.

Funimation's site has the option for closed-caption subtitles (the actual dub script, not the translation of the JP audio) on English dubs for Cowboy Bebop and various other shows.

Everything that connects to MAL

Contains Ecchi, but not Tagged Ecchi: Part 1 || Part 2 || Part 3

Not sure ive heard that before. What kind of hearing loss do you have? Is it noise induced? If you aren't on any medications that would interact or have some medical condition you could consider taking Korean red ginseng which has some studies linking it to possibly help protecting some forms of hearing loss. Though im not sure if that is for incidental use before loud environments where it would lose effect if taken too long from the body getting used to it or if it can be done effectively for daily use. You could ask a doctor if they think it is safe for you to try.

@traed It's indeed noise induced. Too much time with earphones on listening to music or anime (guess i shouldn't have cared about my family hearing what i listen to lol). i'm gonna have to look up this thing about red ginseng which looks interesting!

Animekai was the first website to have dub AI subtitles and just when it was getting good the next thing it says "Bad gateway".
