I must be buggin but didn't he wanted to redo quirks. Isn't that good because by removing quirks no one has to suffer and no one has quirks to kill.

even if that's true. I don't think the ends justify the means.

Disassembling and reassembling Eri was kinda messed up.

A bit, but Overhaul made another bullet that brings quirks back. He’d sell the eraser one to villains, and the restoring one to heroes. So, it’s good but also bad.

Also, he was experimenting on a little girl.

And no one has quirks to save people. This is a similar argument with technology.

But, as for the main question, he does have some anti-villain characteristics.

My issue with it was that he was abusing Eri to achieve this goal.

Sure you could argue his cause was worthy, but he murdered an innocent child god knows how many times. So yes I’d say that makes him pretty bad.

the torture is the issue. if he was a completely different character who just went about doing humane research to achieve his goal, then sure there's no issue in that case

But that’s the problem, he was artificially creating a problem that the heroes would HAVE to pay to fix. Child torture aside since that’s an obvious bad, there’s other media (unfortunately I’m drawing a blank on examples somebody can fill in if they know what I’m talking about) that highlights the exact problem of someone creating a problem to sell the solution and profit and they’re always the bad guy bc its a scummy greedy thing to do. What happens when heroes can’t afford the fix?

The problem will be that the hero numbers will drop, and the villain numbers will begin to increase. Heroes may become desperate and have to make a deal with the mob in some way to keep themselves going. Overall, Overhaul will be starting the war earlier than Shigaraki started.

His motives were to restore humanity to a mostly quirkless state so that the Yakuza could reaserrt their previous levels of authority, versus say attempting to prevent quirk singularity. The Yakuza, you know? Gangsters? He'd eventually want to monopolize quirks in such a way that would empower the Yakuza. Again, the fucking Yakuza.

His motives are villainous in themselves. The Yakuza "might" have a code of honor, but they are still at their hearts violent thugs. Like I get they may be better than the League of Villain running things, but they are not good people. Where the fuck are we getting the whole "torturing Eri was where he went wrong"?

I wouldn't say it is evil, just the smartest idea anyone has ever had in the show.

Yes. He is the worst person in the series, second only to AFO.

Overhaul as a character in a surface is a very evil person he literally kill everyone who's stands in his ways but if we dig deeper he is just a person being corrupted by their unique world. Having that kind of quirk is very very overpowering of pride if i have that one that's basically what happen to him he's to strong for anyone to stop him not even his father can do much because anyone who crosses the line either dies or worse and i guess that's the reason why he get this loyal henchmen of his because of such attitude he impose to them that they start seeing him as their true leader

The hate is because he is FAR more different than most other villains in MHA. While most had a tragic backstory or some redeeming qualities, Overhaul was just….more villain liked than most people would expect. Not sure how i can best explain it.

Honestly I liked Overhaul. Not as a person, but I thought he was a great villain.

He was actively torturing a child (Eri) to get the materials. And it was mostly acquired and used by villains. The idea itself sounds good but the execution isnt.
